Today i bought two cans(900ml each as 1 l was not available) of motul 4t plus 20w40(aug 2010 manufacture date). The mrp was 204 and got for 170(180-10coupan). After coming to home just searched for motul 4t plus 20w40 images in xbhp to verify its genunity. What i observed is my can does not have the "HC TECH TECHNOLOGY" at the top front side(as shown in pics uploaded by you in the below given url),instead it has "guaranteed protection --bikes engine, gears and clutch" and"cash coupon behind the side label"(cash coupon)as shown in the pictures attached.
Please have a look at this and let me know if its original or not

sorry for really poor quality pics,as my Nikon cam is not working at this important moment

The only clue is on end cover page, there is an ad of Honda 20W40 oil as recommendation, thats it...

          They are absolutely right .
If your ambient temperature stays between 10C and 45C .. use 20w40 mineral from motul/gulf/elf/shell etc , change in every 2000 kms (max) .

Don't know yet, covered only 500kms on shell synthetic(Unicorn). The dealer said that you can use it for 6000kms. Previously used Castrol Power 1 Racing for 8000kms, Motul 300v for just 2500kms(I didn't like it).

Gulf Pride is mineral, also best among minerals. And drain period -- 2500kms max.

Do not revert to minerals, you would hate the feeling.

What should be the opetating temperature for 10W30? (In Bangalore the temperature varies from 20-32 degree)

Regarding changing oil, the owners manual says 6000KM , i know early drain is good, but 2000 seems too early , please correct me if i am wrong...

2k kms is for mineral oils bro.. According to me one should never use a mineral oil till 2.5k kms..
And I seriously dont know why owners manuals say that kind of things; Honda & hero Honda manuals say 6k & pulsar manuals say 10k (!!?). But ask any mechanic he will say 2k.

10w30 is said to be good from -20C to 30C & 20w40 from -10 to 45C+ . The operating temp range for 10w30 overlaps a lot with 20w40 , the trick is to stay at the middle of your oil's range and avoid the extreme ends , for prolonged use .
Owner's manuals assume "normal service" which is the equivalent of riding pleasantly along at 40kmph in 20C clean environment clean fuel and no traffic in japan . In real life use in here , max you can do with sedate riding is 3000Kms(cut it to half the recommendation) or four-five months(recommendation is six) .. whichever comes earlier . With "severe-service" kinda use (like I described my riding a few posts ago) drain at 2000(or in 3 months) . You need not remember all this however ... your engine will tell you when it's time for fresh oil .

                          • Hey is it ok to shift to Fully Synth Oil directly from Mineral Oil ? N also is it neccessary to flush the old oil completely before changing ? My bike has completed over 5500 kms, done with the free servicing n so planning to change the oil to either Semi or Fully. Recommended Oil by Honda is 20W40/ 20W50.
I m considering Shell Advance Ultra or Shell AX7. nWould b glad to get few suggestions from you guys.

Been discussed several times. Anyway you can go ahead and change to FS. No flush required.
