yup.. u got me partly right. the oil doesn't completely lose its property but begins to lose at that point. which alternatively means ur engine is also going through the process of changes in the lubrication. that is when u will notice ur ride becoming a less smoother n sluggish. n then again u might find it riding fine because the oil by then would have lost it FS properties. n behave as a normal/ mineral oil. if u wanna avoid that sluggish nature, u can change at the 5k mark or even @6k depending on how well u maintain ur bike n ride.
the price for motul 7100 is around 725/-

Better not . Bajaj's 20w50 dtsi oil has pretty bad user feedback . Also none of the Pulsar owners I know here are using after the first once , most are running either Valvoline premium 4T 20w50 or one of the 2 Motul's 15w50s - 30004T+ or 5100 .

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I got the Motul 300V 4T Factory Line 15W50 from a shop (deals only in Engine oils) in Chattarpur. I got it for Rs.950. I will only be able to know the effect once i ride tommorow.

They also had the 300V 4T Factory Line 10W40 at Rs.950.

Motul Chain cleaner and chain lube for Rs.480 per can.

Just check out any shop that deals in engine oils you will find it there. Try areas with a lot of bike servicing shops like Karol Bagh etc.

                      Hope this helps.

                      • Though this query definitely must have been answered in this thread but still asking as i don't want to go through the entire 500 pages .

I own a HH Cbz star. HH recommends using a 20W40 grade oil. Currently all HH service stations use 10W30 grade oil during service (earlier they used 20W40).

Today i bought the Motul 300V 4T Factory Line 15W50. I was going through the internet and read that a higher grade oil i.e. the 50 in this case will be a little hard for the engine to move around hence degrading the engine's performance, so it is better to stick with either the recommended oil (which in my case is 20W40).

So will there be any issues with my engine if i go for this oil or should i use the 300V 10W40 next time when i change?

The temperatures in Delhi are soaring at the moment i think around 42-45 degrees. So i was also thinking like using 15W50 for summers and 10W40 for the monsoons and winters.

                        Please advise.

of whatever i know of engine oils.. Your thought process is perfect. But, by selecting a w50 grade you have done a mistake.
A 10w40 oil in any honda bike is sufficient for round the year performance in Indian climate.. So better change to that grade next time.

Regarding your post on motul chain lube and cleaner at 480 rs. per bottle..
I think you are overdoing it.. These products are not required for covered chains like the one in the cbz.. But may be required for fz or fazer type open chains.. As these have thin strong film which prevent dust accumulation on open chains.
These products though look good but are costlier than the cost of the complete chain set!! Use standard lubricant like EP90 (there is a chain cleaning and lubrication thread here om xbhp) and replace your chain set on time.. The money you save, give for charity. Though i wont say that for your fs oils as these are really good oils which improve comfort of riding to a great extent..

So do i need to change the oil as soon as possible? What all precautions do i need to take while the bike is on W50 or it doesn't matter.

I havent bought the chain cleaner and lube as the price itself killed me .

I was think of using WD-40 on the chain as works like a 2-in-1. cleans and lubricates. Though after WD-40 i was thinking of lubing the chain with a SAE 90 grade oil.

no big precautions required.. Just warm up your bike before speeding..
Change it after completing full 5000 kms.. (why waste this exceptionally good oil :-) )

regarding chain lube and cleaning - thats a good choice you are making but WD40 can be detrimental for the chain if overdone hence use it with caution.. Refer to chain cleaninh and lubrication thread.

Clean with toothbrush wet-ed frequently in a bowl of kerosene, wipe off with clean cloth and oil with 90 or 140 gear oil . Apply some grease on it with finger too, afterwards .
Avoid the wd40 like stuff, it is a penetrating oil useful for derusting etc . Very insufficient lubricant property for a motorcycle non-o-ring chain . It is also known to harm the rubber rings in some o-ring type chains .
