I have been using the Shell Rimula R4 in my ZMA for the past 300 kms. I have filled this oil after the rebore, so still in run-in period. The oil is almost as good as a synthetic oil; smooth and less heat.

Small Doubt here.
I have Bought 1 litre of Shell Ax-7 10w-40 Semi synthetic oil for my Fz16.
As i have to change the Oil filter, i need 100 ml more, But i dont have extra 100 ml of Shell Ax-7.
I have 100 ml of MOTUL 3100 Gold 20w-50.
So Can i add it with Shell Ax-7 ??
Will it be safe to add 100 ml of 20w-50 grade Motul 3100 oil with 1 Litre of 10w-40 grade Shell Ax7 ??Royal Enfield Bullet Standard 350cc 1989, Bajaj Avenger 200-2009, Pulsar 200 NS 2015.

You can. After all all semi syncs can be synced. That shouldn't be of any problem.Originally posted by Touseef Ahmed Mohammed View PostSmall Doubt here.

Make sure just mineral and synthetic isn't mixed, worst case.

Imagine you are running on Motul Gold 20w-50 and decide to change oil with 10w-40 Shell AX7, but this time you didnt change oil filter.Originally posted by Touseef Ahmed Mohammed View PostSmall Doubt here.

Though one should buy extra quantity of same grade oil, but in cases where there is no option but to mix.. no harm in doing that.

Thanx bro. Btw i am using Shell Ax-7 10w-40 semi synthetic for the First time in my Fz, i ride 70% in city, 30% on highways , so what should be the Drain interval for it??Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostYou can. After all all semi syncs can be synced. That shouldn't be of any problem.

Hai All
I have changed from Yamalube mineral oil to Motul 5100 SS at 20000 kms for my Yamaha FZ-S. I usually change the mineral oil at 2000 kms frequency. Now my baby has run 2500 kms with motul 5100 SS and is still smooth. I want to know what is the change frequency and should I inspect the oil. And what should I be looking for. Kindly give my some knowledge regarding this.
Cheers.

I'd suggest a good ballpark of 3 to 3.5 for you if you're a daily commuter unlike a separate bike one office and touring like me.
Yamalube, boy I've had nothing but bliss with this oil. Used in my Victor and remember draining upwards of 3.6k kms.
Cheers!

Whenever you are trying some new oil which you have never got experience on- Check oil level every 10-15 days/ consumption of 1 tankful fuel (which ever is earlier)
Condition 2- Your bike shows signs of oil consumption:
Check oil level at a frequency wherein you would be able to prevent running your bike on low oil levels.
Apart from that, different people do different tricks to check oil condition at 15-30 days time/ After consumption of 10-12 L of fuel. Rubbing the oil between the fingers and a visual check to see the color of the oil is most common. Other tests include loos of smooth gear shifts, harsh/noisy engine, loss of acceleration etc.
There is one test that I used to do when I used to test variety of oils. My bike is equipped with engine rpm indicator and whenever I used to put in a new oil which I never tested before. I would check what is the idle rpms are with this new oil and also what is the rpm when I am doing a straight line constant 70 km/hr. This used to tell me whether there is some sort of clutch slippage etc that I am encountering. (Gosh! Its time for me to check this again to see whether the diesel oil is slipping the clutch slightly. Have forgotten to do it from 6 months or so)
@ ravi17bhp and psrji - I dont know why you are running diesel oils on newly biuld engines. All diesel oils contain small amounts of molybdenum and boron which gives smoothness to the oil. This may interfere with engine breakin. This molybdenum/boron content is quite less in comparison to petrol car engine oils, but it is there.

Exactly. Since there is no glass on FZ series, and I guess your bike has a dipstick. It's always a best practice to periodically check the engine oil level or with dried palm tree leaves as we do at times to check the fuel in our cars.Originally posted by muztariq View PostCondition 1- Your bike never shows any oil consumption signs:

And the best way to check this on these bikes is the oldschool method of rubbing the oil against your fingers.
But I guess all these are pretty rudimental.
@psr ji, I didn't even see your post. Will do that by today itself. Will post the details on the Diesel engine oil on an ASAP basis.

I have used Honda 20w40 mineral oil for initial 270 kms, only then I changed to Rimula R4. I have CRF230 service manual, which says to apply molybdenum solution to all the moving parts in engine while rebuilding. Doesn't that affect the run-in?Originally posted by muztariq View Post@ ravi17bhp and psrji - I dont know why you are running diesel oils on newly biuld engines. I was just informing that these oils does contain molybdenum which is a friction reducer and may interfere in engine rebuild. Though the quantites are low in comparison to petrol car engine oil levels.Originally posted by ravi@17bhp View PostI have used Honda 20w40 mineral oil for initial 270 kms, only then I changed to Rimula R4. Here is an oil analysis report from a user in US. Who is doing 12000 kms / oil change interval on these oils..
1999 Honda ST1100
Water-cooled V4
Shared engine/trans. oil, wet clutch
Comments:
Mobil Delvac 15W40 oil
PL14012 is a Purolator automotive oil filter
No oil additives used. FP3000 and Redline Lead Substitute in the gas.
I'm not too worried about the Sodium, it is not coolant. I am using Redline Lead Substitute
in the fuel to help protect the valves and it is Sodium-based. I have used it before and it
shows up in the oil tests.
Interesting results from the Delvac. Low wear numbers and pretty good viscosity. Seems to be good oil for
this bike, especially at $6.00 a gallon after the Mobil rebate.

Valvoline doesn’t just set the bar for premium products and services. We raise it. Relentless innovation has been the heart of our company since 1866.
Okay psr ji here it goes. It's the Valvoline All Fleet Turbo 15w40. The canister differs but I guess it retails for around 1138 here.
So is this "the thing". From all MSDS I've read, it's pretty much boils down to the thing on paper, but can this really be used?
@Muztariq, excellent piece of info there.
So here is a baseline comparison of 5100 vs Valvoline All Fleet Multi Turbo (just the base relevancy)
Motul 5100 (as the one being common)
Kinematic Viscosity, cSt @ 100oC 17.6 mm2/s
Viscosity index ASTM D2270 149
Flash Point, COC, oC 230
Valvoline
Kinematic Viscosity, cSt @ 100oC 15.20
Viscosity index ASTM D2270 138
Flash Point, COC, oC 210
