Re: Engine Oils
Most Car Engine oils have Friction modifiers which can lead to clutch slippage. Where the clutch is not sharing engine oil, the Car engine oil can be used. As per new Euro norm engine protection ingredients like Zinc and Phosphor have been either very much reduced or removed totally. This can lead to serious engine wear esp., drive train over the long term use. HDEO diesel oils still contain enough of these ingredients(ZDDP) and is preferred over regular gasoline engine oils. This ofcourse is a PERSONAL CHOICE and not MANUFACTURER's recommendation. This had been discussed in detail at length in previous pages.Originally posted by suj View PostWhen Was The Last Time,You Did Something For The First Time.

Re: Engine Oils
Zddp was lowered due to premature wear of catalytic converter..current api sn oil contains low level of zddp and other additives for better protection and oxidation stability.shell helix hx5 is a api sn rated.do you think it's safe to use on scooter which calls for api sl..Originally posted by psr View PostMost Car Engine oils have Friction modifiers which can lead to clutch slippage. Re: Engine Oils
I owns a YZF R15 V2.0 which had clocked 16k kms
Since Its time to change the Oil filter as per the YAMAHA recommendations, we should fill 1.2 Ltrs of oil during filter replacement. But all brands are available in 1 ltr pack. i am looking for Motul 300v factory line 15w50 which comes in 1 ltr pack
So my question is is it necessary to fill that 200ml extra because i had never seen it on any forums/videos etc. during oil filter replacement ??

Re: Engine Oils
Refill should be within permissible range as specified in the owner's manual. Then again, Motul 300v has reputation of getting burnt with few bikers. May be due to stressful use or slipping through piston rings.Originally posted by sujithayyanthole View PostSo my question is is it necessary to fill that 200ml extra because i had never seen it on any forums/videos etc. during oil filter replacement ??
In any case a spare bottle of oil comes handy. If you can't afford another 300v, buy any 7100 or 5100 bottle for that matter. Any oil mix is better than oil below required level.
Don't you think 300v 15w50 will hinder R15 performance a bit? 7100 10w40 should be fine.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

CBR 250 takes 1.4L and 1.5L with filter. we buy 2 bottles and keep half for next usage.
use a food packing thin plastic foil and tighten the cap well for next usage and if manual says 1.2L then use 1.2.
the makers know their product more than users."A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel."

Re: Engine Oils
I think 3100 is mineral oil and not semi synthetic!Originally posted by suj View PostDon't worry it is not fake...3100 is a semi synthetic oil like 5100 but without Esther base...it is not mentioned in their web.so go ahead and use it.Motul has manufacturing facility at silvasa wer they manufacture mineral oil like 3000,scooter le and 3100...oils like 5100,7100 and 300v are imported from France...

Since 800kms have been done, so you have done your second service? If so, nothing to worry. Also, Bajaj oil is real crap as per many member's review. The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!
