Well , I stand corrected on one point . I did not know that kinematic viscosity can also be calculated from dynamic viscosity . It is then indeed a the quotient of the dynamic viscosity η and the fluid density ρ, ν=η/ρ. In laboratory we found all viscosities directly by the physical principle of measurement based on the rate at which a fluid flows under gravity through a capillary tube , and that was also a long time back .
However I do not agree that 10w30 oil can be compared with a straight 30 weight oil at room temps , that interpretation cannot be drawn from SAE's gradation methods . But I request other members to chip in with their view on it for clarification .

Ok, been following you guys for quite long and its getting really knowledgeable
but its not good to push too much with bad health so take it easy, have some rest. we can always resume with the hot topic after you feel well.

btw, in the meantime I did some digging on the Internet and found that there are some articles saying that 20w40's base oil is of 20w and some others are silent and some says its something in between 20 & 40 its getting so controversial

Depends on usage & riding & engine conditions , which you do not mention . 2000 kms to 2500 kilometers or four months , whichever occurs earlier ,would be a very safe bet .

It's very minimal air exposure , so it should last nearly the same as sealed bottle , which is more than 5 years . Oil is damaged by thoroughly mixing with air like in use inside the engine - when oxidisation sets in , or when exposed to extreme temperatures or freezing or by contamination .

though a properly kept, opened and recapped bottle will last more than 5 years on the shelf.. But have seen dealers selling off year old sealed bottles at heavy discounted prices.. No one is ready to buy older stocks. Have seen price of castol power 1 go from 250 to 309 rs in an year - if one can keep them for even 3 years - buying your choice of oil now for the next three years will be a good option ! :-)

I may sound like a dumb while querying this as my technical knowledge about bikes is limited but I want to know that can we change the oil filter while the engine oil is in? I have changed the engine oil just yesterday and 4th free service is due in next week. Should I change oil filter or what? What is changing interval for it?

There is no oil filter at the drain for Dazzler. There are two filters, oil strainer and centrifugal filter located inside the rightside crank case (near clutch plates). Oil strainer traps large sediments and centrifugal filter traps micro particles. They should be cleaned in the first service and then every 15k kms (as per manual).

Thanks for needful knowledge! So if I am not wrong, these two are fixed parts and need only to cleaned and not replaced?

Guys, I have a 2010 Fazer with about 9.6k km done... I am looking at getting Motul 300V 15w40 for it. Where is this available in Bandra, Mumbai or anywhere near me? Is there any place I can order online from?
