One word , just stop using CP1 , it is incorrect grade for your engine . Try Valvoline premium 4T 20w50 , it works very well on pulsars . Ofcourse motul's 5100 semi-synth is very good , but costlier . Drain your oil hot every 2500 kms max .Originally posted by premkumar View Post

Im using Motul 300v 15w50 for my Thunderbird, recommended by the company. It runs smooth for the first 2k km but starts to get sluggish and hard on gear changes later. The oil is supposed to run for 6k km but i have to change it before 4000 km. Is there a better substitute? has anyone tried any other oil?

The factory filled oil for new TBTS is Motul 5100 15w50 semi-synthetic or Motul 3000 4T Plus 15w50 mineral , not the 300v FS , AFAIK . You can try the Valvoline Premium semi-synthetic 20w50 too . How many kms is the bike yet ? Best idea would be to fill with a cheaper oil of the 15w50/20w50 grade like these and drain it every 2000 kms . That way you can avoid the oil breaking down problems like this as well as keep the engine cleaner and better lubed with fresh oil all the time , for less money than a single fill of the 300v . Bullets have always loved fresh oil frequently changed rather than fancy oils

mobil1 is a car oil.. Cant be used on wet clutch bikes.Originally posted by nalir View Postany review about MOBIL1 synthetic oil??? suggest a good one for CBR250R
There are Mobil Super (not mobil1) 4t oils available, no one seems to be using them here.. I am on mobil super 4t 20w40 mineral oil.. There is a synthetic of some 800 bucks.. No reviews available for that product.
Use motul 300v 10w40 for your steed.

@pinakiji - dear pinakiji, didnt you notice that the valvoline oil that psrji found is 'synthetic technology'!? So its ss oil by all means.
Same would be gulf, somewhere it would be written, we just have to read between the lines.
A synthetic oil does not require any VIIs, just you have to add thickeners like parrafins and wax to bring them to the desired viscosity levels. Hence all synthetics will be having similar base oil ( groups may vary like group 1, group 2 etc.) just different levels of these parraffins and waxes.
So no one can sell synthetics that dirt cheap..
Just go through the msds of motul 300v 15w50.. Its full of these waxes!! Afterall thicker the grade, more the amont of waxes required.

Yes I did notice that on the Valvoline bottle so it may be a semi , I agreeOriginally posted by muztariq View Post... dear pinakiji, didnt you notice that the valvoline oil that psrji found is 'synthetic technology'!? So its ss oil by all means.

, but there is certainly no such word-play on the Gulf Synth 4T package anywhere , I'm quite familiar with the usual tricks they play with labeling and I did check thoroughly . Only the word Synthetic inscribed in bold in front . If it's not a full synthetic oil , then gulf is outright lying on the package , which I doubt they would try .
You'd do better to stick to the same mineral oil until 10k kms . Motul's 3000 4T plus is a plenty good oil , but it's usual drain period is about 2500 kms max , which is just normal for a mineral oil in our conditions . My 3 daily runners are running on this same oil(20w40 variant) now and I drain it every 2000 kms in summer . 4k/6k kms on mineral ??!! forget itOriginally posted by akshayrbk View Postmy bad,, it is the motul 3000,,, my bird's done abt 4k,, motul 5100 is recomended for CL500s, was thinking of going in for those on my next oil change,, thanks for the help!

Had been using Motul 300V till date, but off late consumption has increased and hence forth maintenance cost. Is any one using some other without any problem ?
Comes for Rs 323. Excellent, using it since quite a time now, i think 4-5 cans have be down, smoothness can be felt in gearshifts. Drain and Fill after 2,000 to 2500kms. Sasta and tikav.
Stick to the grade mentioned in the manual.sigpic
