Surely don't fill 10w30 grade oil (synthetic or not) in a bike rated for 20w40 and in this summer heat too ! What's the fuel mileage on your suzuki SS+(slingshot+) .
Mileage is 64-70 on sane riding, but i have to ride slow and that's not very easy on a vibe free engine,20W40 oil is taking a long time to get warmed up(poor throttle response at the initial kms) so i was thinking that i could use thinner oil for short rides,According to google temp is between 32 and 24, monsoon is already starting.

I`m a regular student so Bus charge per day is 4rs and hence very economic but a lot of hassle(I`ll be tired when i get home)still i`could save a lot. Or maybe i could coax my friends into sharing diesel expense and go in car if dad permits but No chance

yamalube 15w50 semi-synth. Its the same motul 5100 with slightly different additive package. Cost is below 500.

            • @Pinaki ji,
Can you post a picture of the Gulf Pride 4t Synthetic oil ? (Rear label only)

I-phone mugshots posted by you in this thread are barely readable.

Gulf has not updated its website even now whereas other companies update their websites even before the product is available in the market.

What is the reason behind majority of people in India blindly using any oil suggested by the shopkeeper/mechanic ???.
I have seen many shopkeepers forcing people to use engine oils meant only for cars.
(Castrol being the most favorite ) Thank god we have a dedicated thread for engine oil at xbhp.

Is it because our lack of knowledge/time or considering mechanic to be the designer of the bike who knows everything ?

              • While changing over to FS oil, do the oil filters need to be replaced or just cleaned..

Just to confirm if I can't find some of the brands that you guys have in India I can go with 10/40 fully synthetic motorcycle oil jaso ma? Is this correct? Thanks again for the info.
Very correct. Always look for jaso ma/ma1/ma2.
Btw, there are some motor oils which dont contain friction reducing additives, hence no problem to wet clutch but you can only know of those oils by experimenting (which may cause harm to the clutches)

which bike do you asking for? What's odo reading? When was the last time oil filters are done or engine opened?
external oil filters in yamaha bikes can not be cleaned, they are use & throw. Change them at least every other oil change.
And for other bikes (including yamaha) there are centrifuge filter and/or metalic mess and a strainer. Which has to be cleaned (they dont need to be changed, unless physically damaged) once every 10k-15k (as per recommendation) but most people get it done at the time of clutch overhaul.
Cleaning or changeing (according to case) before moving on to FS is good idea, just for peace of mind.

                  • what are other choices in SS oils for FZ16 other than Motul 5100?
Our bikes can go from 0 - Stupid in less than "I wonder if this will be a good idea"

Thanks a lot guys . Will check on it. I have to do long trips and engine heat should be kept minimal and smooth ride throughout from start to end. I don't like the engine losing refinement after riding 50 or 100 kms.

there won't be any problem just stick to xxW40 or xxW50 grade (as W30 is only good upto 30' C temperature)

for a zma, would only advice a w40 no matter what the weather.. And shell ax7 ss is the best in that grade.

I'm asking for RTR 180. The current odo reading is 13k km. The engine was opened a few months back, but the oil filter was not touched.
I read a DIY ,that a K&N oil filter was available for the RTR. Should I replace it OR can I just clean it up just like an air filter..??

well I dont have any info about K&N oil filter but what I know is those kinda filters should be replaced, every other oil change interval.
