Following the manual's recommendation is a safe bet.. 3000 km (max 4000 kms)
Castrol power1 increases pick up.. but the oil start to show awkward pitch dark color from 500 km itself. The quality is not so good in comparison to gulf.

Now there is another perspective to it. The darker oil may be cleaning the engine better by taking in all the sh1t that gets developed inside the engine. The cleaner oil might not be cleaning the engine, thats why it is still not dark and retaining its original colour. No?

Good to see discussions on the many facets of the engine oil use.....I had been experimenting many Grade and make of oils in my ZMA, and found that what works for some one doesn't work for me and vice versa....but the oils that stood out irrespective of user, are
1. Gulf Pride 4 T
2. Valvoline Champ 4 T
3. Motul 3000 4 T
among the Minerals..among the SS
1. Shell AX 7
2. Motul 5100
3. Valvoline SS
and on the Fully Synthetics
1. Motul 300 V FS
2. Valvoline SYN power
3. Shell Advance ULTRA ...

Yamalube is the first best choice. If you cant find it then i highly recommend the Motul 20w40 Mineral.
If both these above oil are unavailable, only then Gulf pride is okay, and nope 10k is not possible, change it at around 2500-4000km, depending on service, or when you feel pickup drop, you see the oil turn brown grey black. Be careful of castrol duplicates.

Now thats something contradictory to what muztariq said..
So which one is it??? Yamalube motul gulf or castrol/??

A good oil with detergents is bound to go dark. It will be dark even if you check after 500 km.

To some extent.

If you put cooking oil in your engine.. what will happen.

It will become dark after 100 km or even less. The same oil become black on a clean pan, with no carbon after three four hours of cooking.

The same is with Castrol. It is highly unlikely that anyone would recommend a castrol here. Just three posts back psrji enumerated the oils he recommend for ZMA.. castrol is missed out.

I would suggest you stick to engine oils only for motorcycles and not experiment with cooking oils.

Buy some cheap mineral oil off the store. I reckon the difference between the price of mineral oil and your cooking oil wont be much in favour of the cooking oil that you have been using in the engine to see how dark it gets at 100 km of use.

Regarding Castrol, I've always used Castrol GTX for my motorcycle. Recently got the cylinder kit changed and the old cylinder as well as the piston were very clean when I saw them.

everyone knows Jaso MB (car) & MA (bike) oil should be used in correct application not vice versa.
Using car oils in bikes can cause clutch slippage is a proven fact.
But wanted to know what will happen if bike oil is used in car??

I am looking for a good 10W30 oil(SS/FS).
How is Gulf pride 4T synth 10W30 ?

SS-should be under Rs.300/-
FS-within Rs.500/-

Before you jump the gun, you should realize that not everyone rides these 100-150 cc hair driers on wheels.

I have a Bullet and it is okay with car oil as the clutch uses a different oil and not the engine oil.

Oh may b that's why pickup trucks are seen even on the prime times.

nice question there.. Cars are fitted with catalytic convertors and bike oil contain a lot of zddp.. These kill the catalytic converters.. If you have a very old car which was using below API SG oils.. Nothing happens.

But one should use car oils in cars as these have friction reducers which improve a car's economy and reduces emmisions. Also, bike oils are costlier than a car oil.. 5 litres of a car's mineral oil will cost you less than 1200. But if you buy 5 cans of corresponding bike oil, you will spend 1300 bucks. Though a marginal price difference, but it is there(though it can just be packing and handling charges).
