I am getting a fuel efficiency of 52 right now. The thing is for me to right here is for a reason. I want to try gulf pride 4t plus 20w40 oil so I wanted an advice from you all who so ever have used this oil before. Some queries regarding this gulf oil is.1. Is it a mineral oil or ss as I am confused on it. 2. Is it better than moto 4 gold 3. What would be the drain intervals on this oil I had plans to change the oil of 1100km of my last oil change after completing 2000 km on it.I would be really kind to all the members here to share there wonderfull experience on the above note. Thank youYours Arjun (die hard Xbhp member) .
why do you want to experiment when all is well on the elf oil.
motul 3100 or shell ax5(20w40) or shell ax7(10w40) are other oils you can use - from my experience on using these (not on a unicorn though)
the gulf oil you mentioned, i 'read' was good..
So you can try any of these oils.. and IMO you dont need a FS oil, its just a waste of money on these 150cc punterss.. stick to the above mentioned oils and change oil every 2000km. and you will have a smooth ride.

Different grade oils have different physical properties . Its better to have a uniform mixture of oils in your engine.
      Weight = Viscosity = 20W40/20W50/10W40/15W50/etc

The question was not is it better? It was can you?

People can give hundred's of theories, but nothing is accepted until one can quantify the theory with data from practical experience!

At various times my bike has run a cocktail of different oil (FS+SS+Mineral) and its run for thousands of kilometers like that. My engine is not screwed , its survived 90K kms with such antics. Infact even right now the bike is running a mix of 700ml 300V, 300ml 5100T & 100ml Craptrol Mineral

Here are some credible links (since a lot of folks might disagree to practical info ) which suggest mixing is OK :-

Car Bibles : The Engine Oil Bible - It is safe to mix the different types, but it's wiser to switch completely to a new type rather than mixing.

What Happens If You Mix Regular and Synthetic Oil? - Mixing Motor Oils -

it is not recommended to routinely mix oils because the additives in different products may interact or the oils may become destabilized by the mixture. You may reduce or negate the properties of the additives. You'll lose the benefits of the more expensive synthetic oil. So, adding regular oil to your special synthetic oil will mean you'll need to get your oil changed sooner than you would have otherwise. If you have a high performance engine, it's possible it will be displeased if the (expensive) additives can't work the way they are supposed to. This may not damage your engine, but it won't help its performance.

Read the links you have shared.

Also, Pulsar 10,000 and Gulf 4T 10,000 oils states that these oils have been tested for 10,000 km in 'motorcycles'. How many kms do you use them in your bike?? Do you actually use them in first place?
If you go by their recommendations you would have done just 10 oil changes in your 90k run bike till now! Is it?

What you can do and what you should do are different. You should not mix oils.. but you can mix them!
I can run 10,000 kms on a Pulsar DTSi oil.. but I should not.

        Practical comes after theory!

As you are happy with the oil.. no need to change it.
But, If a change is due.. Better go for Shell Advance AX7 10w40 in the chills of Allahabad during winters!

        • I agree with praful here. You can mix different types of oil along with different grades.Doesnt matter cuz the bottomline is,it's oil afterall at the end of the day and wont cause any harm to the engine.

If your running on FS oil and need to top up,you can use mineral oil for topup. It's not necessary you always have to topup with the same brand or grade. It's just about the level. You've to maintain the damn level and it has to be done with the oil!! So relax guys :-D

My 4 wheeler is on cocktails too Castrol Edge FS + Total Quartz mineral.Amazing results!!

          @catchdoon

Do not overfill.100ml is ok.Dont think too much.Ive seen people overfilling more than 1ltr in their cars with no harm at all.Modern day engines are built tuff.Dont go into all that theory.Just enjoy your ride!!

Used Rimula R3 not on a bike, but on INDICA. The oil is thicker and also the engine noise increased. Very bad choice. Rimula is for trucks...

Even though Gulf is a good oil, I didnot find it better on Unicorn. The engine was not free with this oil. Ofcourse I am comparing it with Gulf 10w30, Shell 10w40 and various fully synthetics.

                • Guys, I am not against top up.. This is what I said -
A lot has been said already about oil mixing.. let me again put forward my opinion.
Oils should not be mixed. If you are running low on oil or require top up you can mix oils.. but that should atleast be of the same grade like w40 etc.

There was a specific query.. I have FS oil and it is 200-300 ml short, can i mix mineral oil with it?
The reply is no.. The reason why FS oil are better lubricants is their linear structure. They are highly refined and contain one size molecules. If you mix 200 - 300 ml of a mineral with 700-800 ml of FS oil from the starting itself, you are totally eliminating the benefit of FS oil.. It is now as good as a mineral oil. You cant prolong the drain interval of that oil. If you want your costly FS to behave as a mineral oil.. go ahead!
Regarding VIIS.. if your oil becomes w45 after mixing or becomes w35 in place of w40 how will you come to know? There wont be any sudden engine damage.
If I run w40 oils in a pulsar recommended for w50.. what will happen?? slight engine damage which you wont even come to know even after 50,000 kms! But, your engine could have run a little longer if you would have used w50.
How many ppl use w40 oils in pulsars with w50 recommendation - I think 50% of roadside mechanics dont have w50 grades at all! What they have in stock is castrol active 20w40 for all vehicles that come for an oil change!

Will take this with a pinch of salt bro! It's not.If your engine has loads of gunk accumulated inside then too the new oil will bcum black in few kms after your oil change.Counterfeit oil's can only make ur engine coarse, clutch hard, gears shifts hard, bummer on the fuel economy, engine would heat more quicker etc.

If even the new oil or so called fake oil bcums black then too it's doing its duty of cleaning certain amount of gunk from your engine

AX5 is a mineral oil IMHO and AX7 is a semi synthetic oil. And Shell Advance Ultra is a fully synthetic oil.

yeah after searching on net even i found a similar result as per AX3 & AX5 are mineral oils, where AX5 is quoted as "premium" oil & AX7 & Ultra are semi synthetic & Synthetic oils respectively..

having just a marginal price difference between AX5 & AX7 i think I should go with AX7 only as I am already using it since many months..

                              • Premiun is just quoted for time pass.True synthetic oils as far as i know are made by MOTUL with ester based technology.Shell advance ultra is not a fully synthetic or true synthetic oil. It's just extracted or made from Group III or Group IV base i guess and quoted as fully synthetic oil.Shell oils have good cleaning agents and keep your crankcase clean.
