Motul oil generally produce more heat than Shell so last time i went for Shell & preferred it over Motul..Since I'll again go for Semi synthetic i.e AX7 so Shell still seems to me a better option than Motul..Suzuki Gixxer - Current

Heat depends on which grade of oil u opt for buddy. If your engine heats up a lot then you can go for 20w50 or xxw50.You might have used a thinner grade of oil thats why your engine was heating.Which grade of Motul oil you were using? My engine was heating too much when i was using Shell Advance Ultra 10w40,so i switched to Motul 7100 20w50.In A War Only Men DIE!!

do you any technical doc or the formula for these motul & shell oils to substantiate your claims ? I dont think companies like Shell & motul which sell their oils all over the world would be fibbing about 'fully synthetic oils'. (semi-synthetic is anyway a combo/blend or a modified mineral oil so that's a different case, which is why 'I' think most indian oil companies don't make a fully synthetic oil and only claim their oil is semisynthetic
)
PS: each engine (or bike like 125cc/150cc/200cc, different manufacturer, condition of engine etc..) behaves/performs differently to same oil.

I didnt claim Motul is not a fully synthetic oil.Shell advance ultra has been discussed till death.Flip thru the pages of this thread and you shall find your answer!! Im saying it's not a true synthetic oil like motul is.Few of our members have posted some technical data with respect to shell oils.Originally posted by s1d View Post

Shell is imported and not made in India and I think the same holds good for Motul as 300V is also imported.
Shell FS is a group III oil. Motul FS is a pure synthetic as they claim 100% synthetic.. may have group III in it also, how much? can be debated.
You can call Group III or above oils as FS oils. Castrol and Shell use this terminology on the highly refined group III they market all over the world. Not bad oil but not the best either.Last edited by muztariq; 10-19-2012, 01:09 AM.

Synthetic oil - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
@muztariq i do not know were shell is made
don't remember reading the 'made in xxx' on the back of the bottle (but even if it is made/bottled in India- i guess the formula/blend/raw materials etc are from their global research & development. and as you said we can go on debating
and like i said, some feel happy with the mineral oils (with short oil change intervals), some on the semi synthetic ones and others don't mind spending a premium(especially when it comes to smaller capacity under 200cc bikes) on FS oils. and again it all depends on how your engine responds to these various oils..

I have a can of Shell advance Ultra and behind its written "Manufactured in Malaysia" and behind Motul its written "Made in France" Both these oils have been imported cause as far as my knowledge i've learnt that fully synthetic oil are not made in india. My experience with shell was good with regards to acceleration, but when it came to engine heat it was a big 0,i partly blame the oil cuz it was 10w40 grade(thinner,so cudnt withstand better heat management). But on draining the oil i found out that it could do more but i just cudnt resist pouring the Motul

buddy i dunno where that damn page is.Will dig for it and share the link here.Last edited by pioneeraron; 10-19-2012, 12:15 PM.In A War Only Men DIE!!

Guys, shell advanced ultra's base oil is 100% group 3. Motul 300V's base oil is a mix of esters (a kind of group 4) plus group 3 oil. Out of which esters are less than 20% only. As 100% esters can lubricate and clean extremely well even in extreme conditions but can't stay within engine for long, esters can easily pass through rings into combustion chamber. Also no oil company can sell group 3 oils as synthetic in Germany.

correct, there are some marketing limitations country wise as to which oil can be termed 'fully synthetic'
exactly what i said.. no indian oil company makes 'FS' oils. and obviously if you are using a thinner grade in indian climate heat management will be a problem.Originally posted by pioneeraron View PostI have a can of Shell advance Ultra and behind its written "Manufactured in Malaysia" and behind Motul its written "Made in France" Both these oils have been imported cause as far as my knowledge i've learnt that fully synthetic oil are not made in india. My experience with shell was good with regards to acceleration, but when it came to engine heat it was a big 0,i partly blame the oil cuz it was 10w40 grade(thinner,so cudnt withstand better heat management). But on draining the oil i found out that it could do more but i just cudnt resist pouring the Motul

i am due for a service oil change on my dio (been 6 months, 2600km on shell ax5
and it still looks like it can do some more, since what i did a month ago was drain out around 200ml of the old oil and top up with the leftover 'fresh' oil from the 1l can that was used last time)
wondering if i shud try the ax7 this time or the castrol scoot oil
just to experiment

Just a quick word for folks in Mumbai looking for Mobil, Mobil1, Shell & Petronas oils. This very nice gentleman at Vile Parle(e) stocks them all. Place is Reliable Motors, P.M road, Vile Parle east. 5 mins off the highway. Google up for his number.
Highly recommended!"Never recreate from your memory, always imagine new places"

this is what i had said in one of my prev posts "(but even if it is made/bottled in India- i guess the formula/blend/raw materials etc are from their global research & development."
so if you are getting the genuine one then i guess it shouldn't be a problem
try it and let us know your feedback.
and i remember reading an explanation given for one of the reasons why FS 'cause' leaks at the gaskets/seals. it goes like this "if there are deposits holding an already weak seal, the FS oil due to its cleansing properties might cause removal of these deposits & the oils leaks from the gasket/seals" <-- sounds fair enough to me.

Yup it's a genuine one.I had called Elf's office in mumbai and they directed me to the nearest stockist of this oil.I have not faced leaks from gasket/seals till today even after using synthetic oils till date
*fingers crossed*

I bought it for Rs 600 from the ELF dealer when the MRP was Rs 725 six months ago.
I've used this oil on Unicorn and Fazer, works good for 4000kms.

I have seen that from the outside.Originally posted by pioneeraron View PostYup it's a genuine one.I had called Elf's office in mumbai and they directed me to the nearest stockist of this oil.I have not faced leaks from gasket/seals till today even after using synthetic oils till date

Having used Total quartz 9000 FS oil from the plant.. I can say the FS quality is of global standards. The oil was 4400 rs / 4 litre, 2 years ago. If they dont give quality, no one will invest so much in their oil.
FS engine oils do not clean on their own. Its the dispersants added to them that clean the engine. The very linear structure of FS oils makes the oil not so leak friendly. It leaks as the film of FS oils is very thin in comparison to mineral oils. In minerals, the smaller molecules can leak from the engine.. In FS all the molecules can leak from the engine. Hence on the same engine, an FS has more tendency to burn/leak rather than a mineral.
It is not advisable to use FS oils in older engines as they get into small pores the carbon deposits have and with time their normal passage through those pores dislodge the carbon deposits.
