thanx for reply buddy..
and there's one more issue i can't sort out..
when i got my bike serviced using genuine 20w50 bajaj oil they used to add an additional of 50-60 ml of oil and called it pick-up oil....
so if i switch to motul or any other brand than do i still need to add that pick-up oil to the engine??
i priviewd the whole thread but can't find details about pick up oil....
what's its role in engine's workout...
NO FEAR

huh ? pick up oil ? never heard of it, its never advisable to fill more oil than is required to, how much do they usually fill ?
and , one more thing, do they usually charge you extra for this "pick up" oil ?
P.S: Dont fall for this kinda tricks from them , some even talk you into filling extra additive with oil to make engine smoother and blah blah blah, dont add any such thing, just use good oil of recommended grade and brands and your bike will perform very well.
cheers

don't know of any new arrivals but you can try for veedol super swift, a semi-synth, 10w40. Motul 5100 is also available in that grade.Originally posted by gautam_k View Posthey guys, any new oil on the block for RTR Fi?ill be hunting for Shell AX7...but in case that isnt available i need something else as a backup.only xW40 semi synthetic oils please.thanksIts a great oil. You'll love it. But the 'feel good' factor will only come after a day or so. And its a semi-synth.Originally posted by micky_kar View PostHello friends i own a pulsar 180 ug-4 2011 model and recently i bought valvoline 4t premium synthetic blend 20w50 grade from the distributor i just want to know that how this oil is will my gear shift and engine will be smooth if i use this oil ? and one more thing i want to know is this oil a semi-synthetic or a mineral oil.?

All that we make and care is for the crispy sound of the engine like Sony Walkman.

Told you that many many moons agoOriginally posted by muztariq View Post...Using thicker oil does reduce engine overheating. ..Contrary to what we are made to believe, fs oils does not provide a cure to an engine thats overheating. A thicker oil is better...
. I found that in Indian summer heat running slowly in busy city or long trips , thinner 10 base oils just don't cut it then . I can feel the poor lubrication in just 10 kms .. I can always tell if my engine doesn't like something . I listen to the engine all the time it runs , everyday I ride .. all the time . Foreign forums and websites say that 0-10 base oils circulate faster and keep things cooler . I have a good feel when the oil has got circulating well after cold start , when I idle it everyday to warm . Well they do circulate faster initially and you can feel that . But after the engine has warmed up and got upto hot , it sure doesn't cool better than the heavier grade - at least the oils we get here don't . So in the summer months or whenever the going gets tough , 20 base oils have alot going for them here .
Pick-up oil is very bad ... go to the ASC and ask them to take out their pick-up oil from your bike and return your money that they took for it , else complain to Bajaj-auto in writing , attach photocopy the cash-memo/s they gave you after servicing .Originally posted by hotheadbeast View Post... when i got my bike serviced using genuine 20w50 bajaj oil they used to add an additional of 50-60 ml of oil and called it pick-up oil....
Can you please elaborate on this ? what kind of engine life reduction have you encountered with mixed oils ?Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View Post... If you go back to his post, he mentioned mixing three grades of oil, with different specs, which is a sure shot way to reduce your engine life ...Last edited by Pinaki; 10-28-2012, 03:31 AM.

MAK Lubricants : Your Corner : News and Media
i bumped into the MAK NXT (gradeless
oil) and on further checking out MAK lubes, came across this!!
My personal knowledge of honda engine oils:
1. 2007 jan - 2011jul (twice in between used castrol) been using the honda oil on my Dio - 20w40 white bottle made by Savita Oil (100% sure since that was what was mentioned on the bottle and in the bills)
2. Switched over to shell ax5 since july 2011 (loving it
, honda's oil was good this is better) - only later on did i come to know that honda stopped their 20w40 oil
3. i have read earlier that tide makes oil for honda (not sure if honda has got different tie ups) - but mine was always made by Savita oil (atleast the 20w40 until jul2011)
4. last week, i visited this honda 'camp' held by a dealer and they gave out some pamphlets on their oil (their description on why the oil if good was... never mind
) and on that pamphlet they had this grey bottle 10w30 which said was manufactured by TIDE. - this was on oct 21
5. And today i come across this >> MAK Lubricants : Your Corner : News and Media
^^ press release on oct 19
i have ridden a few scoots, unicorn and shine that run on their 30 oil, and i would say they don't feel as smooth as one running on a 40 oil.

is there any problem if semi-synthetic oil is mixed with 1year old mineral oil because i am changing the engine oil from mineral to ss oil and the ss oil is available in 1 lt else i have to buy 2 cans

This has been discussed so many times, some say no problem in mixing(including me, i have done it many times), some say its not good to mix, no body has reached any conclusion on what it is.
So if its oil's of same grade, its totally your wish if you want to mix or not,but i do have a few questions
1. Whats the proportion of mixing that you have in mind ?
2. 1 year old mineral oi l? That doesn't sound so good, is it a sealed bottle ?
Still, i would suggest buy 2 bottles of SS and use it.
Cheers

Yes, while typing the message I was also recollecting the discussion we had when someone installed a blowing fan over his overheating splendor!!Originally posted by Pinaki View PostTold you that many many moons ago

In my case the overheating used to set in after 20 km of continuous ride. I still believe that for normal city commute a 10w40 is better than a 20w40, the reason being good startup protection. But my stance has changed for long summer rides after the 10w40 FS overheating I faced.
Even I rate oils based on the feel I get and the engine response and noise. With 15w40 you can feel the thickness of oil in the exhaust note, engine noise and the thumping feeling you get when accelerating from slow speeds in comparison to 10w40.

to cool the engine. It brings a smile on my face whenever I recall that foolish act !
Engine now runs much cooler after switching to Motul 3k 20w40 and de-carbonizing the engine.

Just saw your post from the archives.. you did use 20w40 grades from many brands. It was decarbonising that did the job for you then. How do you decarbonise the engine?

Removed the engine head and did a manual decarbonizing of head and piston crown.Originally posted by muztariq View PostSo, it was you..

I don't know whether you ask this question out of sarcasm or you really wanted to know the stuff. But both said, here are the fact.Originally posted by Pinaki View PostCan you please elaborate on this ? what kind of engine life reduction have you encountered with mixed oils ?
I myself have did it twice in my bike. At first here doesn't seem to be any performance issues, but once the bikes get heated and their molecular structure starts to change, you can see your gears become clunky and the engine harshness, if not immediately.
Second, I know many people who use CRB, engine and say the performance engine oils. They themselves go to the shop, buy a can, and now it's become a habit many people, at least in my hometown, go to a shop, ask engine oil, the seller gives them CRB, which clearly says it's for DIESEL ENGINE.
But the users say the engine is smooth et cetera. Yes of couse it gotta be smooth due to the friction busters used in it. But sooner or later you're gonna burn your plates and reduce your engine life soon. I've seen it in person and it's been the case with two vehicles.
So never mix oils with Different Grade, plus different brand.
Cheers!
