    - Does the Unicron require 1.0 ltr or 1.2 ltrs when changing the engine oil? My mechanic told me 1.2ltrs but the manual says 1ltr when draining and 1.2 ltrs after disassembly. So who's correct here??

    - Secondly notice another Oil at the Petronas outlet... called as Petronas Sintium or something?? How thats oil??
    1) Why are you doubting a Honda Manual? Go with it.

    2) Sintium series is for Cars. Sprinta Series is for bikes.

I doubting that coz the regular mineral engine oil for Unicorn comes in a 1.2ltr. pack/can

EDIT: Can someone who has a Unicorn throw some light on this??

I've seen 800 ml and 1l packs of Honda Engine Oil but not the 1.2L one. But then, I don't deny the possibility.

What you've mentioned earlier from the manual is correct - 1L during oil change.. 1.21L - full capacity.

Of late my bike had started to feel rough post 6k rpm! checked the oil level today it was below the min level and the oil colour had started to change

My bike has done abt 1.4k after fillin up 5000T! even the idling is very sliggish....make a Thug thug sound!

am expecting the cam chain to be the culprit and the oil also to an extent

that is serious... isn't it? How is Pundrick's RTR doing?

Check for oil leaks! It cannot be so bad!

My R15 is doing good. Out of the 4 X marks we have on the level checker, the oil was showing till 3 X marks when filled... even before the Kodachadri trekking... then the level fell a little - it is above 2 X marks and is still there (about 1300 kms done after that).

I was kinda surprised when i noticed this today. I have'nt checked it with pundrick. i think he is still using power 1 racing.

Anyways i'll check my bike first and then jump into conclusion.as far as i have checked there was no leaks anywhere!

But i have a weird feeling on RTR.....motul 3000 4t was very good for everyone but i had a real bad experience and now this.......is my bike possesed?

              • @neville_kc:- If you havent disassembled the engine then 1.2L will be overfill, stick what manual says thats 1L right..I will anyday believe what manual says over the mechanic.

                • @neville_kc:-there is no 1.2l engine oil from honda..for a unicorn use 1L.... atleast i have been using the same for the past 53k kms...

@satish:Isnt engine oil level going down is something todo with oil burning...my unicorn used to drop oil rapidly and my mech suggested to change rings and valves...fyi it already had covered 50k+kms...so on a new bike wat would be the culprit....even my bike didnt give better results with motul 30004t..

I was planning to go for petronas sprinta on my rtr-fi..then i would better wait for a few days....

                  • Satish's bike is no new. It clocked 24K of ripping. Can this be a case of improper valves / valve settings???

                    • he can easily check whether his bike is burning oil...jus put ur finger in to the exhaust wen it is cold and feel if there is any oil mixed with carbon deposits or jus dry carbon deposits...
if its the 1st case its time to get it properly checked..

Have done 1.4kms after the last oil change/service

currently using Petronas Sprinta 5000 T

Riding style.....hmmm.....its all mix....did 131 once and kept the bike above 125 for abt 3kms straight after the service. did a 200kms ride on HYD-VJA highway keeping the speeds above 110 at all times possible. and rest were all city riding. mostly shifts inside 4k rpm and at time shifting at 10-11k rpm

Yes it has to do something with oil being burnt....but in my case i dont see tht as a reason. it has to be something else....need to check it!

Are u sure abt 24k kms part? My odo shows only 7k
My bike completed 22k kms today only........and out of these 22k atleast 15k was total ripping, drags, touring and occassional wheelies burnouts and fluke stoppies i once did 121 @4th gear...rpm was at 11.1k rpm. have taken the bike to 12k rpm in 1st 3 gears!

The cam chain was replaced in last service. so i think tht might be the culprit!

i cleaned and polished my bike today. checked for leaks....no sign of it anywhere. checked the silencer end too after checking the oil level....no traces of oil stains. however there is a very small leak from the tappet/vavle cover........in worst case 10ml of oil might have been lost thru tht!

i'd point out here that 1.2 ltr would be needed when the engine is opened up ( that is the head or the bore or the complete thing)

when you open the engine up , you'd notice even the rocker arms, camshafts and valve springs are lubricated. and etc etc.

now during just an oil change the oil on these parts still remain. so 1 ltr would be sufficient. but if the engine is opened up then these parts would need some extra lubrication.

btw i've noticed a very bad tendency amongst mechanics to revv the bike when they drain the complete oil so that every drop oil comes out isnt this totally r@p1ng the bike ?

im using gulf 20W40 .. 140rs per 900 ml im using this cause my bike leaks oil .. or rather cries oil :P
