  • Re: Engine Oils

They have cut down the permissable levels of additives containing zinc , phosphorus etc etc in the oil over time in conformance of new and newer environment regulations ... from older ( obsolete ) api class like SG to the the present SL and SM ratings . Some of this cleanup doesn't go well with the older engine designs we have too , particularly the gradual depletion of ZDDP in the newer oil types . Well this is as much I could gather from it .

So is it better to use a diesel engine oil that contain fair amount of zddp . Will this be better than sm sl rated oils ?

With all this discussion going about technical grading n all.. I want to add one thing.. If the manufacture thought it would be better to use diesel oils or any other, they would have mentioned it.. Well, its a personal choice what to use.. But still, why complicate things this much.. We do not ride Liter class bike running a peak power at all times.
Timely oil change with the recomended grade is all we need and our bikes will do great..

(not pointed towards anyone, just thought of expressing myself)

        Ride safe and have fun.

With smaller overhot engines pulling larger loads - frequently with one or more pillion rider , running on roads that need serious repairs , in hot climate and humid air , dusty & polluted environment , forced to creep in city traffic with frequent restarts and not maintained in ideal conditions of repairs - our bikes are way more stressed than large capacity bikes overseas that runs at speed on good roads and cool climate all the time . So do not take oil lightly , it's a vital element that demands some thought at least . I agree with the timely change and recomended grade part wholeheartedly .

No need to search hard... just visit any of the Shell outlets in Hyderabad ( Mythrivanam, Ministers Road, or Raidurgam - near Wells Fargo Building). All three places stock FS oils priced @900. Better than Motul in all parameter. Just make sure to flush your engine before you pour this in. Happy riding and hunting.

I'd suggest you to use Motul 5100. It's SS and performs flawlessly. If you're considering fully synthetic, then try the Shell AX7 Ultra, or the Motul 3100 SS or 7100 or Petronas Sprinta 4000T FS

                          Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
                          The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

                          THE END

That oil is like 350 bucks, its FS?? I always thought its a mineral oil little better than Motul 3000.
