Thank you for the help Pinaki sir. I would love to try Yamalube for my next oil change. I hope Yamaha wont go the Honda way and shift their oils from 20W40 to 10W30 grade. That seems to be the trend with manufacturers and oil companies. Most of the Motul dealers are promoting 10W30 oil instead of 20w40.

Don't this so. Most Yamaha bikes are recommended to use either 20w40 or20w50 grade oils.

I am a bit hesitant in trying out HDEOs. The major reason being that if anything goes wrong, I wont be able to use any motorcycle oils again as the block-pistion would be attuned to HDEOs.

The only motuls available are in 10W30 and 20W50 grades. I have searched a lot in pune for motul.
I, myself am surprised that AX5 is more smoother than AX7 in my Honda Dream Neo.. It would be helpful if someone might suggest a better option than AX5 in 20W40 grades.

HDEO in any way won't affect the engine life negatively at all, at least from what I've experienced. I'm using the Delvac 1300 20w40 in my Victor and so far it's been performing beautifully. I've used almost all Motul ranges (except two stroke oils of course) Your best bet for low end SS oil would be 3100 and mineral would be 3000T.

And if there is one oil my Victor "loved" is the Yamalube 15w50, butter smooth gear shifts, engine whine totally different from Castrol Activ Xtra that I used to use earlier and then Agip, and then Shell and then Mak etc and now finally on Delvac.

Mind you my owners manual states ( Victor GLX) 20w40 and I've almost 95% of the times used oils that have 15w50 and haven't experienced any slag or sluggishness in performance it was indeed one of the best oils I've used. Motul and Yamalube doesn't differ much, but why spend so much when I can change the oil at even intervals using Delvac. Of course this being mineral the drain interval is a little sooner, compared to Motul. But 500 KMS on Delvy, single crank starts in Ooty mornings, and performs good even until the engine heats, not so sluggish either fellow members post, that's my personal experience. Totally satisfied with Delvac.

Hey guys.. another variant/grade of Castrol Activ Gearless scooter oil launched:

I was at the local spares shop to pick up engine oil for my Dio (been using the Castrol Activ Gearless scooter oil 20w40) and I noticed that Castrol now also makes the same gear less scooter engine oil in the 10w30 grade (this bottle has the marketing term 'ZIP BOOSTERS' printed on it) - This though doesn't seem to be listed on their website (their website only lists the 20w40 gearless scooter oil - Castrol India - Castrol Activ Scooter )
Should be good, going by the performance/satisfaction i have experienced using their 20w40 gear less scooter oil.

So, as per motul it was supposed to be 'released' in March2013 !!.. I haven't seen this around here in hyderabad, and its not even on their website yet. Com'on guys castrol/motul WHY dont you keep your websites updated duh !?
Like I've said earlier, JASO MB definitely does make a noticeable difference in these gearless scooters. It was a pleasant surprise to me when i switched over to the Castrol after using the Honda OEM and Shell AX5 (20w40's, which are really good oils too)

There is only one oil in Motul to which you can upgrade as Motul 7100 20W50 is standard oil for Duke and P200NS. The upgrade available to you is Motul 300V 15W50, it will cost around Rs. 1095/-. You will have to either buy 2 cans of 1 Lt. or you can go for 3 cans of 1 Lt. for a second oil change. The capacity for Duke is 1.4 Lt. so 600 ml would still be in the second can.

Hi everyone. First and foremost I would like to thank everyone on this thread for the vast knowledge shared on engine oils. Its really informative. I have a Honda dream neo which has clocked 5K kms in 5 months. The company recommendation is 10W30. But, like Pinaki sir, I also have chosen to discard the warranty and have started using 20W40 oil.

My previous experiences with various oils are as follows

Honda 10W30 - Loses viscosity by 1000 kms. engine gives out a burning smell.
Castrol Activ 20W40 - The oil feels heavy. engine becomes noisy. clunky gearshifts. mileage came down from 70 Kmpl to 60 - 62 Kmpl.
Shell AX5 20W40 - Not as heavy as castrol but feels heavier than Honda oil. accelaration is good. Feels very smooth at speeds below 60 Kmph, loses steam above 60 kmph.
Shell AX7 10W40 ss - Read a lot of good reviews about this oil. Helped in cold starts during the recent winter in Pune. I was astonished to find out that the engine smoothness and gear shifting was better when I used Shell AX5.

I have read a lot of good reviews about Motul 3000 4T 20W40. I have searched with a lot of dealers in Pune. The only Motul oils available are 10W30 or 20W50 grades. Please suggest good oils in 20W40 grades. Thanks

Sir, I have dream neo. You may also try the castrol power1 10w30. I got it because manual recommend 10w30, no problem so far.

Recommended grade is always fine. It does no harm to the engine, given, its genuine.

I own an Avenger 220 dts-i, 2011 model. Till now I have been using Shell 20W50 and felt better then the Bajaj engine oil.

After hearing about Motul engine oil and it's positive review. Planning to use Motul 7100 20W50.

Have few questions in this regard:
- Is my decision to switch to Motul is right?
- What precautions should I take while changing oil, since it is two different engine oil?

The only percaution you should take is to use the Grades which are recommended in the manual. And change oil-filter with every oil change.
Motul is a good brand and no worries using it.

Then no problem. 7100 is a very capable oil and does the job in a really good way. Go for it and share its experience on Avenger.
