    • 10W30 ELF Oil for Hero Honda bikes

Some of us were lamenting the lack of choices for 10W30 oils for Hero Honda. Just saw this Elf product on the Elf site. Seems like a new product.

Its SAE 10W30 API SM, JASO MA2 in 900 ml bottle.

Check out the pdf for more:

      Has anybody used it?

      • Racoon that elf oil is a mineral based one, its good but has a shorter drain period, gulf 10w30 semi synthetic is better than that.

          • guys..and its due for servicing..... does it matter which oil i use for my discover 125 DTSi ?

or will thr be any improvement by using full synthetic oils?

gear changing has become very noisy these days..actually was noisy from day 1..

Hmmm... is it?? But its mentioned that it has a drain period of 6,000 km... with top-ups every 2,000 km. Which is exactly what is mentioned on Hero Honda oils.

So Elf isn't good for that long, in real?

There will be improvement with synthetics. You may want to try the semi synthetics if you feel the synthetics are pricey!

Try Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40 if available... it is a semi synth avilable at mineral oil prices... and it is very good.

may be another way of putting it across is that the Gulf would be better than that! But we have not tried the ELF oil in question here... the judgment is based on using the Gulf oil and that it is a semi synth.

                • As I'v said many times before, you cant evaluate an oil just by a label which says its semi-synthetic or synthetic. Have you seen a single manufacturer disclosing whats the synthetic component? All additives are synthetic. So actually all oils could be labelled as semi-synthetic! Its more of marketing gimmickery!! And as I can see, its working superbly.

That said, its quite possible that some brands have higher synthetic component... perhaps even base oil. But we can't tell which... unless we can do a lab analysis.

Meanwhile, let us not befool ourselves!

                  • one can at least vouch for it when the oil runs the engine at its smoothest, gear shift at its best and still being very good after 4000 KMs of hard city biking in a hot engine as the Victor....and yeah, the engine was over 50K KMs old when the oil was drained!

Yes, I am speaking of the Gulf.

And yes, please do not expect the manufacturers to give out the composition details... at least, not any sooner. Also, going by your argument, we can even question the fully synthetics! And then, the argument is endless.

Instead, we may speak off our experiences and the brand value.

                    • Oil for my puulsar baby

                      Hello everyone,
I am currently using a pulsar 180 classic which has clocked around 60k km but is still in good shape. After reading a lot of threads about synthetic oils, I have finally decided to try it out on my babe. I just wanted to know what the difference between Motul 300W and Motul 5100 15W50 was. Also intend on knowing what would be better for my bike as I mostly do city riding (about 50 km a day).
Also need help about the prices and dealers in Pune. Thanx in advance.

the former is a synthetic blend oil for around 750rs...drain interval 6000-7000kms. while the latter one is a semi synthetic for rs.395....drain interval 4000kms...

both the oils are exceptionally good for the bike but a synthetic blend is better than the semi synthetic one...depending on one's budget...the oil can be chosen.
                          its all about CC...

                          • ^^^ both the oils mentioned are 15W50 and I guess ur bike's recommendation is ??W40. But then, with a little loss in pickup (that you wont feel because of smoothness in acceleration) these oils work very good for your old engine.

BTW, don't forget to keep oil in spare for topup... as such your engine is pretty old and it becomes more important then!

                            • @Hydbiker: The Pulsar 180 Classic uses 20W50 based oil.

@shrigauravraskar: Which engine oil do you use now? I also ride a P180 Classic, which has done over 100,000kms. and I have never used any synthetic oil. As a matter of fact, I have not used ANYTHING else except Castrol's engine oils till date.

Do share your experience of the Motul synthetics, if and when you do use it.

Seems you didn't get my point. I'm sure Gulf is a good oil (since you and others are vouching for it - I haven't used it yet; tho I just purchased a bottle myself). What I'm saying is lets not get carried away by thinking its better because its labelled semi-synthetic (that of course applies to ALL oils)! For all we know, it might not have a synth component any higher than any other oil in the market! There are a LOT of other factors that make an oil good... and marketing hype is NOT one of them!!

And believe me, you CERTAINLY can "question" those which are labelled fully-synthetic.... but thats another issue... and I think I'll let it pass...

And since people here seem to like Gulf Pride - has anybody used their 2 stroke oil? If yes, any comments? My Shogun has been drinking Castrol Jet X for the last few years...
