Mineral or ground oil is obtained from crude oil, this kind of oil is good for old engines or if your engine have any leaks, it expands engine seals and hence stops engine leaks, fairly cheap as well, ss oil's base oil is mineral but additives are mixed in it to prevent it from getting thin at higher temperatures better than mineral, shuffling is not bad but not advisable either when your engine is getting more relaxed at higher speeds and higher temperature with ss oil then why one would go for pure mineral oil which has got early drain period, and almost nil protection at higher temperatures.Originally posted by ashwanth.r View PostIs it bad to shuffle between a Mineral oil and a SS oil (which is mostly a mineral)? But I personally stick to semi synthetic to get the best of both worlds between a fs and a mineral oil.
It dosent vaporise as much as a fs oil, hence doesn't drop in quantity, (extream heat during summers)
Heats up relatively faster than a mineral during cold starts,
Lasts longer than a mineral less than a fs
And yeah its cheaper than a fs and costlier than a mineral.
Your oem grade is 20w40
Your fine with xxw40 so 10w40 also counts
I would use shell advance ax7 10w40 all year round, its a ss.(3000 to 3500 km drain interval)
You can have a look at motul 3000 20w40 mineral ( as good as a ss) (2000 to 2500 drain interval)
If you find something you like between these, your good to stick with it all year round,

The discover dts-si 100 has a 94 cc engine. 15W50 oil will be too viscous for a 94 cc engine to handle. This will result in drop in mileage and loss of power as the thicker oil will cause more resistance for the piston. The so called "Semi synthetic oil", we get in India is just "more refined" mineral oil. Hi saumyadip. I feel you should go with Motul 7100 4T 10W40. This oil is jaso certified.
