When we check on Jaso website it is surprising to find that Veedol Take Off is jaso certified but Veedol Super Swift 10W40 is not jaso certified. Thts strange. isnt it??
No bike is vibration free most bikes vibrate mostly 2 times. 1 at red-lining. 2. T the resonating frequency of an engine. This is that particular rpm that no matter what you do the bike will vibrate.
Also really short geared bikes vibrate above 60. But yours stops after 40-50kmph. So it must be in that frequency wala rpm that speed. Try to stick with 10w40. Engines have nothing to do with the grade. Its just the clearances that dictate the oil grade.
Thicker oil makes the engine a little lesser rev friendly and also has better dampening effect than thinner oils..hence the lesser vibey feel.
Also there are many other reasons for vibrations that are beyond the topic of this thread.

Fun note:- even the unicorn vibrates at a certain rpm and when redlined, the gladiator or ss 125 never vibrates when redlined! The apache(well less said the better about this vibrator!) (but damm I love the apache, still the most fun on a track below 1 lakh, sensation overload in a good way, speed sound vissually and what not)

Your bike engine's must be in tune of natural frequency at the speed of 40 to 50 km/h, hence it starts to vibrate, this phenomena is just like a motor or some other kind of machine which creates vibration in another object or in your house, these vibrations are occuring due to matching of frequency of the vibrating objects equal to the frequency created by the moving machine.

Yes buddy... it is really a fantastic and reliable bike for me. mileage is 68 max I calculated. Even at 70kmph it has no vibration. seems engine harmonics as someone said at 45kmph.] Even i dont give to honda dealer for service as they may mess up. Will try shell 20w40, previously i was worrying using heavy oil as in manual it is given 10w30 and no other grades. thanks

Just some experiences I wud like to share regarding the Honda dream Neo.

If u use Castrol Activ 20W40, it will result in decrease in mileage. Try using Motul 30004T 20W40 or Shell AX5 20W40. When U use shell, it will feel rough for initial 200 kms. then it is butter smooth.

The Dream Neo has a bore X stroke of 50 X 55. So, it is a long stroke bike. Do not take the bike through high revs. Change gears early. This way u can actually take the mileage upto 72 -73 km/liter. By this way the engine oil will also last longer.

            Gear changes

change 1st to 2nd gear at 10km/hr (on odometer)
            change 2nd to 3rd gear at 25 km/hr
            change 3rd to 4th gear at 35 km/hr

I have actually recorded 73 km/liter mileage by riding this way. Happy riding on the Dream Neo.

I did not get your point on how by changing gears earlier engine oil will last longer, is it that the neo's engine dosen't designed for higher revs and when revved higher engine generates more heat and friction which in turn damages oil quickly.

great info.. yes lower gears tend to overrev faster in the neo, unlike the splendor but great torque..
I also tightened the exhaust pipe bolt with rubber bush attaching to the rear frame , which became loose a bit that may have vibrated.
shell 20w40 available in almost all shop, maybe it is too good and popular. going to get today

When we take the bike through high revs, the friction and high temperature decreases the shear stability of the oil. When u actually check the oil by touching it after 1000 kms, the oil has nearly lost its stickiness. This is a sign that the oil needs to be changed. The same oil can last 2000 kms if u change the gears early. The same applies for 4th gear. we have to always drive the bike below 60 km/hr to achieve this.

Also this concept doesnot apply to short stroke bikes like KTM duke. KTM is a high revving bike and produces its max torque higher-up in the powerband. Hence mineral oils do not last long in short stroke bikes.

Can i use teflon tape on drain bolt to prevent slight oil leaking problem? Does it work for long or will it burn on heating? Or should i go for any gasket sealants? Advice pls...

Most bikes come with aluminium crushable washer that is fitted on the drain bolt. Does yours have one? Try replacing with a new one to prevent leakage. Also either the drain bolt threads or the engine crank case threads are damaged and hence the leakage. Any sort of tape or sealant wont last very long (past experience). If the bolt is damaged get s new one. If the engine side is damaged big problem.

Drain hole was damaged and retapped to a bigger hole. Yes i am using aluminium crush washer. But still i can feel some oil on my fingers when i touch the drain bolt, but not dipping on the floor. Changed washer and checked mating surface it was fine. What about using a gasket sealant?

Now if its not dripping in standstill dosent mean it wont drip when the bike is moving. Apparently a perfect job was not done during the repair. Now, thing with gasket sealant is its not fs or ss oil friendly sometimes and dissolves easily in the oil and causes leaks. Plus you will need to put it every time on the drain plug when you open and close it. A tape (high temp. Resistant and non dissolvable in oil) is what you need. Plumbing shops have brass pipe tape(local lingo) its a white tape or a teflon tape should suffice. Wrap it in the opposite direction of the way the drain plug screws in, i.e. counter clock wise. Give a few turns and concentrate on the plug shoulder more.. put a little oil on the plug and then tighten it in place. Should do the trick. Also if you can put a washer out of pvc material(old switch board of home should do) or any thin plastic and use it in combination with the metal crushsble washer

                            Divyansh....

For the time being you can use teflon tape, the other option is to get self tapping drain bolt they make there own threads when you screw it in, just screw them back and forth and the bolt will cut thread according to its size.

Ok guys, changed the engine oil from Honda 10w30 to shell ax5 20w40 on Honda dream neo. The shell ax5 20w40 is a comparatively thick and yellowish compared to honda 10w30 which was clear like water..
Chennai climate also worse more than 40degrees, so changed to bit heavier oil
                                Some observations are :
Gear shift changed absolutely like a different bike, very silky smooth compared to previous.
Vibrations are considerably reduced and revs feel bit heavy.
Achieving top speed takes bit more time than the 10w30, but as long as engine feel smooth and protected, no problem..
I think the engine will adjust to the oil after 2 or 3 days.
