hey i need some clarification..
ive got a v1 150 and i think the default oil specification is 20w40?
but i am facing the problem that the bike heats up pretty soon...and after keeping it at higher revs for prolonged periods the engine sound increases and a bit of proformance drop is noticed...so can i use 20w50 or any other rating for the engine to remain cooler and more refined/lubed at higher revs?

My bro was using Castrol 20W40 on his Unicorn before he handed the bike to me. I felt the engine was overheating, so I switched to Idemitsu 15W50. Initially it gave good results, now after 1000kms of usage, I sorely regret my decision. Gearshift has become rubbery and the engine is rough when revved, uncharecterestic of Honda mills.
Now I'm switching back to 20W40. Can't decide whether to go for Gulf 4T/Yamalube. I'm slightly inclined towards Gulf based on Hyd Biker's review and the fact that its lighter on the wallet~!4 wheels move the body, 2 wheels move the soul.

pulsar,s engine and uni,s engine are way different in character.U can use 50 grade oil in the unicorn only if u are living in hot areas like rajasthan.I have used castrol gtx in my p150 and bike used to run comparatively smoother though the gtx is meant for 4 wheelersOriginally posted by dj_666 View PostWrong move.

wish i had seen your post sooner..i just returned from the mech after changing my oil..ive used AGIP 20w50...the smoothness has increased a lot and the bike is running much cooler but there is a slight (almost unnoticeable) change in the speed at which the bike revs up...i guess its due to the higher thickness...hope i dont have to face the problems your uni has developedOriginally posted by dj_666 View PostWrong move.

i think u shud give a try to gulf, i was using honda oil in my caliber croma ( idemitsu oil), but recently i changed to gulf, 2 days back.
its gulf pride 4t plus 20w0 jaso ma2, black colour packing with gulf written in golden, also its written as 10,000 kms formula ( i really doubt that.....) the engine has become silent & also smooth...but i still have to check the difference as i have driven only 200 kms after changing oil.......so try it......
it costs 210/- for 1 litre, mrp is 221/- got it in sakinaka ( mumbai)

It was Shell Helix and i didn't know its for carsOriginally posted by HydBiker View PostJASO rating should be mentioned in English letters only. Pls check for that as the minimum.
The Uni is better without the thicker 15w50 motul. lookout for ??w40 motul / AGIP Racing / Castrol Power1 Racing / Petronas Sprinta 5000T if you want only fully synthetic. Else pls checkout for Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40 at about Rs 200 - a semi synthetic, and you won't regret not going for a fully synthetic
BTW, did it read Shell Helix (for cars) or Shell Advance (for motorcycles)?
And the OIL CAN i saw had nothing written in ENGLISH

I doubt if i can get Gulf Pride 20w40, will check out
Thank u for sharing it, i wont make that mistakeOriginally posted by velociraptor13 View Post50 grade oil is like a chocolate milk shake with ice cream for the unicorn
.In short its too thick for the honda.i had tried 300v on the unicorn and my bike never went above 90
.Had to drain it of after 300kms
.750rs went down the drain
Currently using petronas and very happy with it

Arre what to do, these people just want to sell oil, no matter which vehicleOriginally posted by Raccoon View PostIts not supposed to last anywhere close to 20,000 km! And you aren't supposed to believe shopkeepers!!
