Re: Engine Oils
Sure, Yesterday I changed to Fully Synthetic oil. It cost me around INR830 per liter. I did change the oil filter as well. I should be able to see some changes soon. Right now..too early to say...But I ll definitely let you know bro... The oil filter was totally blackened ..good thing I changed it.Originally posted by BPD View Post

Yeah, I saw the oil before he changed and I decided to move to fully synthetic. Its a bit thicker than the semi synthetic one. In Shell, it cost me INR830 per liter. Will try to run it for 200 odd kms to see the change in the bike characteristic and performance.Originally posted by sinnerz2000 View PostR15S - Current

Re: Engine Oils
My bike Suzuki GS150R was stranded for 10-12 months.
Till my 14K kilometers I have used Motul Mineral 3000 20W40
But when I decided to start my bike after 12 months, a motul sales guy from Atlantic Distributors recommended me 3100 Gold 20W50
Its been a few days but as soon as the bike starts, there is clear burning smell coming and some smoke(rarely)
Some forum was discussing how this 'HAS TO BE DUPLICATE OIL' issue.
But I'm dead sure this guy I bought from is genuine.
Help me pls. Should I change back to 20W40 3000 ?" A man is also known by the bike he rides :D "

Re: Engine Oils
You should always stick to recommend grade for your bike, you can also use 3100 10W40 but xxW50 is too thick, little smoke after so many months is ok, it will reduce as you ride more but if it doesn't then have it checked.Originally posted by chiragwarm View PostMy bike Suzuki GS150R was stranded for 10-12 months.

Re: Engine Oils
Yes, you can use gear oil without any worries, i am using in my bikes from 10 years. And regarding efficiency, it serves well till 400 kms which is like one week on my bike but it will leave mess on rim of bike which is not a big problem.Originally posted by Nanda SS View PostIs it safe to use gear oil for lubricate the chain... You can get it from any 4 wheeler spare part dealer , any brand like servo, gulf, Valvoline will be fine.

Re: Engine Oils
Any good oil for Hero Honda Hunk, have tried using shell AX7, but didn't get a satisfactory performance. Then switched to the HH oil made by BP, which was initially good, but say after 1500KM's not so good performance. Looking for suggestions of good oil which can hold well to 3000-4000KM's. How about gulf pride 4t plus or yamalube. .

Re: Engine Oils
I had a black Hunk. I nourished it with Motul 5100 (semi synthetic) and the grade I used was 15W50 since 10W40 was not available then.Originally posted by ashwhin View PostAny good oil for Hero Honda Hunk, have tried using shell AX7, but didn't get a satisfactory performance. But I can tell you to stick to 10W40 grade, and you can give Motul 5100 a try. You may also look for other brands, like Mobil 1 10W40(full syn), Shell is also having some Semi synthetic or full synthetic oils.
But I don't know if your running-in is over or not. Don't use semi syn or full syn in initial 3k km.

Re: Engine Oils
Brother don't use any other oil grade than the recomended 10w30 in hunk engine. You will lose the punch after 5k rpm. And also it will leads to overheating due to heavy viscous oil. So you can definitely try honda throttle 10w30 fs which will last upto 4k kms or mobil 10w30 and gulf pride 4t synth both can be stretched to 3.5 k. But if you want mineral oil then switch to veedol take off 4t which is the best engine oil for hunk / xtreme engines.Originally posted by ashwhin View PostAny good oil for Hero Honda Hunk, have tried using shell AX7, but didn't get a satisfactory performance. Re: Engine Oils
It is absolutely correct that one should use manufacture recommended grade. But in my case, the 10w30(Hero Honda oil) caused more harm than good. In summer, when the temperature goes beyond 40C and riding in this temperature continuously for 100 km may cause engine wear.Originally posted by Jith_in View PostBrother don't use any other oil grade than the recomended 10w30 in hunk engine. I used 10w30 initially, found the oil is loosing its viscosity after riding long stretches. Got some engine noise from engine head, opened up the engine head(odo was 3.5k approx) and found scratches in valve steam, grooves on camshafts, both the rockers got some markings on the roller. Asked the mechanic to change the parts under warranty. After that I started using the Motul 5100 15W50 and after this incident,I usually change the oil in ASC, by Hero Honda mechanic, in front of Service Engineer - that does not mean that they recommend it though. But I was very happy with this oil. Did some long trips without any problem.
Never used 10W30 Fully Synthetic oil though, since it was not available then.
....just sharing my experience.

Re: Engine Oils
If u don't want to loose any performance or mileage then stick with 10w30. I used hero oil for 30000kms and I change it at 3000 km during service and it served me perfectly till 3000. Now using Mobil 10w30 just for a change but it feels similar to hero oil. Hero oil will definitely last till 3000km saying from my 30000 km experience.Originally posted by ashwhin View PostAny good oil for Hero Honda Hunk, have tried using shell AX7, but didn't get a satisfactory performance. Iam just curious how many are saying 1500 is the max for hero oil.
