Doing so will give you better performance but will cause faster engine wear.

I used 10w30 initially, found the oil is loosing its viscosity after riding long stretches. Got some engine noise from engine head, opened up the engine head(odo was 3.5k approx) and found scratches in valve steam, grooves on camshafts, both the rockers got some markings on the roller. Asked the mechanic to change the parts under warranty. After that I started using the Motul 5100 15W50 and after this incident,I usually change the oil in ASC, by Hero Honda mechanic, in front of Service Engineer - that does not mean that they recommend it though. But I was very happy with this oil. Did some long trips without any problem.

Never used 10W30 Fully Synthetic oil though, since it was not available then.
        ....just sharing my experience.

Bro.. I own a cbz xtreme once i tried yamalube 20w40 on it it was horrible low mileage and loss in power. Yes you are correct in extreme hot summers hero oil is not good to withstand. Eventhough a semi synth or fs 10w30 will hold good. Hero oil made by tide water oil company will last for 3000 kms. Bpcl made ones hardly lasts for 1500 kms.

Brother, 20W and 15W are of huge difference. Further, where manufacturers recommendation is 10W, using 20W must have ill effects on engine resulting the effects you have faced.
But what I was looking for the most is the xxW40 or xxW50 for continuous high rev riding. Though, later found xxW50 may cause harm too where manufacturer recommendation is xxW30. Because, in xxW50, the oil will comedown from engine head slowly than xxW40 or even xxW30, so there would be chances of empty oil chamber, leading to inconsistent oil flow to the engine head which ultimately leads to wear.
By changing oil grade, I am aware that I am taking considerable risks for the engine. So, it is wise to stick with the recommended grade.

For bikes which 10w30 is the recommended grade you can use 10w40 without any harm to the engine, and the advantage of this grade is it can be used throughout the year whereas 10w30 cannot be used in summer in most parts of India.

Thanks for the suggestions provided. One more query for everyone's understanding. The engine oil recommendation for HH Hunk is 10W30, what will happen if the below grades are used. Provide your inputs in terms of performance(throttle response), mileage, effect on engine(whether good or bad), etc. What will be the best grade to use through out the year in a city like Bangalore.

              10W40
              20W40
              15W50

Only few grades mentioned as these are easily available on favorite brands like Motul, Shell, etc..

Right then..Its been 2 weeks since the oil change from Liquid gun to the Shell Full synthetic oil. Frankly speaking, My bikes vibration seems to remain the same. But I can see some quick response whilst opening the throttle. Engine response is good. FE seems the same. Not much increase. Gear shift is little smooth.

I dont think its making a great difference on my CL500. Will try for another run of Syntheic oil after 4k run .

If you can inform me, what is the oil grade you are using? I guess the recommended oil grade for RE is 15W50. Don't think Shell full syn comes with XXW50 grade or I don't know if they have.
But if you are using low viscus oil, you bound to have vibrations. I remember, one of my friend who rides a CL 350, after using Motul 5100 15W50, he became furious once and told us with a sad tone that his bullet is not a bullet any more. It has became so smooth that the original feeling is gone.

I've found shell ax7 10w40 to do well in cold and warm climates.

My understanding says 10W40 grade of any 4t oil will do wonder in your bike. Otherwise, 20W40 may cause less fuel economy and little bit sluggish engine response.

In some rare cases, using 20W oil instead of 10W, may cause serious problems in engine components.

Ok thanks. I have tried only 10w30 , 20w40 . seems 10w40 is a balance of both. I still miss the smooth gearshift of Motul 20w40 which is spoiled by castrol power1 10w30

You shifted to 10w30 all the way from 20w40? Bad move man, never lower the grade of oil you normally use.

Why not using Motul 5100 10W40? Its semi-syn and awesome oil too.
BTW, what is the oil grade recommended by your motorcycle manufacturer? If it is 10w30, you may go to 10W40 but if it is 20W40/50, don't use 10W30 or 40.

                              Just my thoughts .....

They recommended 10w30 Honda oil , but there is no dampening and clutch would not engage smooth.
