Now I am thinking to switch from stock hero engine oil to some other oil because hero oil is not that good and bike becomes harsh soon. I am thinking to go for 10w40 semi synthetic. Please tell whether it would be good for the engine or not. Though recommended is 10w30 but engine becomes harsh just after 500-600 KMS in summers. Please suggest a good engine oil for the bike.
    Try valvoline semi synth

Actually I was thinking of Shell AX7 10w40. How would it go with my bike?

Your bike's engine is not well run-in yet , stick to the hero (or any other mineral) 10w30 oil until 10000-15000 kms and replace oil every 1500-2000 kms . Afterwards you can switch to 20w40 oil for the high summers . No point in buying semi since Gulf synthetic (4T SYNTH) is just Rs 300 after discounts .

Well I wanted to switch to semi synthetic just to make the engine smoother as it has better lubricating properties.

Gulf 4T SYNTH is indeed a very satisfactory oil . Even the 10w30 & 20w40 gulf pride is excellent too . Price difference is small , got the gulf SYNTH 10w30 ( dark blue bottle ) for Rs 300 only after 50Rs off for the token under the cap , so I prefer it if available - it's just as good , maybe wee bit better I am unwilling to buy more costly oils because I will always drop the oil before 2000 kms or 4 months , whichever comes earlier, this is my first principle .

You engine is a bit rough because of it's newness , not because of the oil . Better to smoothen it out by riding it more and more on stock oil . Internal parts shall wear to seat properly by itself , don't worry about it .

I too follow the same principle..I don't buy fancy fs oil and try to run it for 5000km just to recover cost...on the other hand risk of oil level decrease Will also accompany with the use of fs oil...so its better to stick to mineral oil and change it often so your engine outlives you

Changing oil per 2000km, getting scolding from parents. that's the reason to go full synth oil

it's "synthetic bike oil" , not blend or semi synthetic , and that's amazing for Rs 300 . it's available in 10w30 only and 900ml bottle . Gulf :: Lubricant Products

Amazing indeed and for that prize, evn motul mineral is costing that much; ~275. I've been filling shell SS 10w40 for my unicorn but now the oil is not available in my regular oil shops and i filled motul 3100(mineral) 20w40 and the difference is felt right away and till now its feeling sluggish(my ~2k kms old shell felt better!). Morning starts and acceleration, the difference is evident. Since gulf is not available in 1ltr bottle its no use to me. I remember once i've bought 1ltr gulf (the one that has written 10000 km interval on it), that was for my friend and he was happy using it!

                            Hi friends,

Has anyone used Elf Moto 4 Tech 10W50 in their bikes. The Elf India website shows it to be fully synthetic. A little hard to find in my city.

hey guys, isn't motul 300v 15w50 supposed to be green/greenish in colour ? i changed my bike's oil (been using 300v for the last 10k kms) today and the oil color in the new bottle was of yellow-light brown-golden type and not green/greenish :O

i think remember it being greenish during the two earlier changes but still asking here in case i am mis-remembering (last time i changed was 11 months and 5000 kms ago, so i might indeed be remembering wrong)...the technical sheet of the oil in motul's website also says its colour is green-yellow..

                                is something fishy ?
