Re: Engine Oils
Use 20w50 in summer months and 10w40 in winterOriginally posted by saikatbyte View PostRecommended Engine Oil for Yamaha Fazer 153cc is 20w40 or 20w50 shown on Owner's Manual.
Yamaha ASC had been pouring Yamalube Semi-Synthetic 15w50 from 1st Service.
I had poured Motul 300v 100% Synthetic 15w50 after 6th Service.
During the removal of clutch-plates Yamaha ASC put Yamalube Sporty Premium Full Synthetic 10w40, because that Yamalube Semi-Synthetic 15w50 was out of stock.
Yamalube Semi-synthetic 15w50 is very good, nice acceleration, good mileage, smoothness is also good, but not available right now.
Motul 300v is thick, very very smooth, but very sluggish in acceleration at initial 250kms and also mileage get decreased by 2-3kmpl after Yamalube.
Yamalube Full Syntheic Sporty Premium 10w40 is thin oil, very responsive while accelerating and also gives good mileage of 40-42kmpl than 38-40kmpl, but after 85-90kmph, it tends to vibrate slightly at footpegs and drain interval is very low about 2000km and after 2000km the oil becomes Black "paani" type thin oil.
Now in the market, Motul 7100 10w40, 10w50, 20w50 are available and they are slightly thinner compared to Motul 300v and Motul 5100.
Should I use Motul 7100 10w40, thin oil & gives better acceleraton and mileage or stick to manufacturer recommendation of 20w50 (motul 7100 10w50 or 20w50).
Need advice & suggestion. Thanks.

Re: Engine Oils
Hi Guys,
Please forgive me as i have not read full Thread. Please help me out whether Honda Unicorn need 1 ltr engine oil or 1.2 ltr. I am not sure about that as some says 1.2 ltr and some says 1 ltr. Some guys/mechanics are saying if only complete dismantling of engine then only use 1.2 ltr otherwise use 1ltr. Please help me out as i even lost my user manual. Also let me know whether Motul Semi synthetic 5100 15w50 is good for weather condition of mumbai for Unicorn (generally recommended 20w40). Please suggest some other options.

Re: Engine Oils
Just make sure engine-oil level stays in the middle of recommended level. (dip-stick or inspection window). If it's below that level add some.Originally posted by bmhatre View PostHi Guys,

Grade depends on the average journey you make (JASO MA2)
10w30* - shorter trips everyday
10w40* / 20w40* - long trips everyday
* mineral or semi-synth
no point in going to 15w50 unless you tour on that motorcycle a lot.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Re: Engine Oils
Buy Yamalube 20w40 SL mineral , drain every 2000 kms and fill fresh oil . Alternatively Gulf Pride 20w40 and Motul 20w40 are very good . 20w40 is great for kolkata climate from my experience .Originally posted by saikatbyte View PostRecommended Engine Oil for Yamaha Fazer 153cc is 20w40 or 20w50 shown on Owner's Manual...Need advice & suggestion. Firstly , get a owner's manual from Honda parts shop . Honda has considered it such an important part of the bike that they have given the owner's manual a part-number too . When you read it you'll see that it answers most of your doubts . Engine oil is never filled by volume ( liter or milliliter etc ) , it is filled by the marked level on the engine , by dipstick or other . Fill recommended grade 20w40 4-stroke motorcycle oil . Gulf pride 20w40 is good . Unless you have a very good reason to try another , do not experiment with oil grades on the bike .Originally posted by bmhatre View Post...Please forgive me as i have not read full Thread. Re: Engine Oils
Guys anyone using motul 7100 20w 50 oil?
I serviced my bike yesterday oil had done fricking 7000kms with only little signs of harshness after 5000kms
What amazed me was the drained oil colour was reddish black and not completely blackish .. Kind of worried whether the oil is doing its job of keeping internals clean or something else is wrong..
The oil filter had turned blackish though...

Re: Engine Oils
Doesn't R15's bore-piston has NiCaSil coating? Why would one go for 15w50 in such case?Originally posted by Bean View PostWhat is the oil changing interval for Motul 300V FS 10W40 and 15W50? for (Yamaha R15)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Re: Engine Oils
Check the oil level at every 500kms. 300V can be used upto 4k easily.Originally posted by Bean View PostWhat is the oil changing interval for Motul 300V FS 10W40 and 15W50? for (Yamaha R15)The real beauty lies in throttle's twist!!

I Don't have much knowledge of whether 15W50 is good or bad for nikasil bore.Originally posted by Freak inExile View PostDoesn't R15's bore-piston has NiCaSil coating? Why would one go for 15w50 in such case?
Could you tell me something about!
I saw 15w50 for R15 in Motul's engine oil chart and also read on the internet.
