From the article, it appears FS.

Could you tell me something about!

I saw 15w50 for R15 in Motul's engine oil chart and also read on the internet.
15W50 is the recommended oil for R15. Yamalube is 15W50 Semi synthetic oil.

Oil change interval is the same as given in your bike's manual for all oils . There it tells you the kilometers / months , whichever occurs earlier . These numbers are for standard service , for severe service which is most usual on Indian roads drain-interval of the oil has to be shortened suitably .
Neither Motul or Yamaha says that you can extend drain interval by using synthetic oil .

What would you guys recommend for an as200 it's a month and a half old and done 2900km . Did first service at 590km using bajaj dtsi oil I wanted to switch to motul 5100 but these chaps at the service centre insist on using this bajaj oil . I can feel the oil wearing out and it's just about 2300km since last service.

Well would they not void my warranty if I do not change the oil there ?

Who is telling them ? You can easily skip oil change during next service since Bajaj says their Dtsi oil needs change every 10000 kms - of course assuming you don't ride 10k kms between services . But do carefully read up your owner's manual before you attempt it - every biker must be at ease with oil change procedure for his ride . It's really easy after once .

If they insist on bajaj oil.. Leave that svc find someother one..
Bajaj recommends bajaj oil but its not compulsory to use and for people who know the difference between the two wont deny you putting in motul 5100
Don't simply trust chaps at the svc..
Get oil, oil filter, o ring and get it changed at known local mechanic and you'll be done.

Can't say about Bajaj's warranty conditions since I never read it , but my 2010 Hero-Honda owner's manual ( and I believe all earlier and later Hero manuals too ) specify that warranty is void if Hero-Honda recommended 10w30 oil is not used . If you skip oil change during service , they shall warn you and record the fact in their computerized records and hold that against you when warranty is claimed . So better to read up the warranty terms & conditions in the owner's manual before filling other oil with the service center's knowledge .

The problem with this is local mechanics , even the better ones I know doesn't care to -
                        1) clean around the fill hole and drain-nut before opening so no dirt may fall into the sump .
                        2) run the bike to warm the oil before draining .
                        3) wait the full time or tilt the bike both ways to ensure maximum drain .
                        4) fill upto correct level ( dipstick or view window ) - they just empty the bottle into the fill hole .
                        5) clean oil filter compartment & soak a new oil filter in fresh oil for some time .
I have tried standing over them too , doesn't listen either . Now I never let anyone else fill oil in my bike , even if I have to postpone it owing to my time and I encourage everyone to fill their own oil too .

                          • Shifting from Mineral engine oil to Semi synthetic engine oil

Hello xBhpians. I have a question regarding engine oil and I have found this place to be appropriate.

@Moderators, if find this irrelevant please move this thread to proper location.

I am using mineral engine oil for my bike for 15000 kms with a drain interval of 2000 kms. Now I want to switch to semi synthetic type oils as I am starting to do a little long tours on my bike. So my question is-

Should I just drain the existing oil and put the semi synthetic oil or should I flush the engine before putting the new oil or should I do anything else?
(Regarding engine flush, I have heard some bad things about it and as I love my bike too much, I can't afford any bad thing to happen with the engine.)

Guys, I am looking forward to your valuable suggestions.

My 2 cents: First of all, your 2000 km drain interval is apt for a mineral oil and that itself negates the need for a flush. Also, your engine is just 15k run. Mineral/SS/FS oils are all compatible with one another and there is no need for a flush if you want to change from one to the another. SS oil is almost 70-75% mineral oil only, I suggest you stay with mineral if you are planning to stick with 2k drain intervals (Many people here, e.g. Divya Sharan, use mineral oil, tour extensively and change the oil at 1800-2000 kms). Flush as you said, has many chemicals that might be harmful and a 15k bike doesn't need it. Conclusion: No flush. Mineral/SS okay with 2000-3000 kms drain interval+little long touring.

I have been using mineral oils on all my bikes since ages-shifted to Semi synthetic Valvoline 4T since 2015-@rs370/ltr it's around 50% costlier than the mineral oils i used earlier-but the BENEFIT is that Valvoline is an SN grade oil-much higher the the routine SL grade mineral oils-which means it maintains its properties longer. With mineral oils(20W50 for both my RD350 and Avenger220),i used to keep the drain interval same as your-2000-2200kms but with the Valvoline i change it at 3000-3200kms so the costing comes the same.
Do try this oil for its added smoothness and longer lasting lubricity and feel the difference in smoothness.
