Mineral/SS/FS oils are all compatible with one another and there is no need for a flush if you want to change from one to the another. SS oil is almost 70-75% mineral oil only, I suggest you stay with mineral if you are planning to stick with 2k drain intervals (Many people here, e.g. Divya Sharan, use mineral oil, tour extensively and change the oil at 1800-2000 kms). Flush as you said, has many chemicals that might be harmful and a 15k bike doesn't need it. Conclusion: No flush. Mineral/SS okay with 2000-3000 kms drain interval+little long touring.
Thank you brother for your suggestion. Your comment has cleared my confusion.

Do try this oil for its added smoothness and longer lasting lubricity and feel the difference in smoothness.
Ok brother. Thank you for your suggestion.
As you are a avenger owner I have one extra question for you.
Avenger needs 1.2 liter oil and for that reason I had to buy 2 bottle(Each 1 liter). Now that 2nd bottle, if kept securely, for how long can it be used safely from the date of manufacturing(As there is no date of expire is mentioned in the bottle)?

There is a surprise for you-if you change the engine oil in front of yourself with a mechanic's help, you will fill only 950ml-1ltr oil in your Avenger220 and the oil will reach the upper level mark on the oil window.Try it to believe it.

Recently changed the engine oil. But it gulped 1.2l to reach the perfect mark.

You can go with the MOTUL full synthetic which is used for the KTM's and HD's(not sure) 1 ltr cost around 700 to 800 bucks
No replacement for an engine Displacement

Like a few guys from here, I too had bought a couple of bottles of Shell Advanced Ultra FS 10W40 a few months ago via one of Amazon's Lightning Deal offers. Ever since I had bought the bike from its first owner, I stuck to Castrol Power One SS with 2000KM draining intervals. So this Shell oil was the first time I tried an FS oil. Yesterday, I drained that oil after a little over 4000KM on it. Most of the riding was normal city driving with just one high-speed ride of 350KM during that period. The drained oil wouldn't have amounted to more than 400-500ml. Yes, I am confident about the oil having emptied completely because I rode the bike around for 5-10 minutes before going to my mechanic to change it and he does a thorough job while changing too. I felt this was too less oil and it was pretty burnt up(scroll down a bit for the pic) as well. I started checking the oil levels through the oil window after the 2.5K KM mark and it was stable between the min and max marks. However, I do not like the look of this drained oil.

I filled in the second can of the same oil yesterday and will drain this one around the 2.5-3K KM mark. Post that, I am contemplating going back to 10W40 or 20W40 SS or mineral oil (brand not decided yet) over a FS oil. Most of my riding is still in the city where I barely cross the 5K RPM mark. Normal city rides to spirited long rides ratio is about 4:1. Even in case of above average (say 2:1 ratio) long rides, an SS or mineral oil should last 2K I guess.

Coming to my experience with the Shell, I'd say it's nothing special. There was no perceivable difference for me when I switched from Castrol Power One SS, which cost around half the price of the Shell. If anything, the bike seemed all the more eager and non-sluggish with the earlier oil. This is not to say that the Shell caused sluggishness. It is perfectly alright but nothing exceptional. My shifts were always smooth thanks to regular oiling so no credits to the Shell there either. Go for it if you like but do not expect miracles. And no matter what is advertised/believed, drop an FS oil at around the 3K KM mark. If you find that too expensive, just stick to regular SS or mineral oils. I'll report my experience with this second can of the Shell in the coming months. Since I'll be going on a 1.5-2K KM long ride soon, will need to drop the Shell oil may be by next month itself.

Please any one suggest between 15w40 and 15w50, for fzs.
I live in delhi the temperature is around 40-50 celsius during summer and traffic was high.
I have read many posts on xbhp, and it did nothing but confused me, some says using 15w40 will result in wear as the temperature was high and lubricant will become thin, and other says 15w50 will be very thick and result in wear in long term and engine will loose power or it will feel slugish while thrashing through traffic. So it's like 50% for both.

                        Aakash,

I think for fz the grade used was 15w50 SS .. In my opinion yamalube 15w50SS was the best engine oil . Now Yamaha has stopped this oil in india .
However you can order it online on http://indiaspares.in/yamalube3.html
                        I have a 2010 model FZ-S .

                        EternoMind,
I would recommend 15w50SS for our FZ . For me Yamalube 15w50 SS gives a butter smooth ride and performance.
You can get it online http://indiaspares.in/yamalube3.html or can also try motul 5100 15w50 SS.
I am thinking now of ordering 2-3 bottles from this website for my FZ and R15v2 . For me Yamalube Sporty premium 10w40 is not that good on R15 so will be sticking to SS .

                          Why don't you just stick to the manufacturer recommended grades for the FZ. For a bike whose recommended engine oil grade is xW40, xW50 should work fine if prevailing temperatures are that high. Here's a quick snapshot of what my bike's UM says about usable engine oil grades (recommended one is 20W40);

Stick to the oil grade recommended in YOUR manual. The one that came with the bike. Disregard any changes that might or might not have been made in the user manuals of newer models.
