Is 5100 available in 10w40 grade? I cannot find it online, will check with local dealers then.
Btw, did you change to 5100 yet?

5100 is not available in 10W40.
You better move to 15W50, if you ride in high speeds (But give some idling time before running to warm up the engine oil). If you are (surely) not a speeder you can stay with 10W30.

Had posted eariler, but in the worst case scenario if I use car engine oil of the same grade and fuel, it would be ok to run the bike till I am to put in the bike oil correct? I hear that the additional additives would make the clutch and gear operation more slippery but I am not so sure.

In emergency case, do it. You can also use Diesel engine oil, bikers use Shell Rimula on CBR as well as ZX14R. Some engine oils have friction modifiers, which causes clutch slip in a bike. Check for the label on the bottle.

Ah, its not for the CBR, but for a 2003 era pulsar back in my village close to the Burma border.

Shouldn't be a problem in an emergency. However make sure the grade is close to the stock grade. Don't use 5w30 instead of 20w50.
Or alternatively, you can stick with the old oil itself for a few thousand kms. Lots of bikes have overrun the service interval and still doing fine. Making a habit of it is what's bad.

300V is not really needed for your current scenario. Go for 5100 15W50.

That's why I'm planning to sell it off... Anyone from Mumbai here would be interested in purchasing the v300 at a discount? PM me..

Hello guys,

I'm using Motul v300 in my NS200 for the past few years. Earlier I had a monthly running of 1200kms, and hence I used to do an oil change every 5-6 months.

However, recently I relocated closer to my office and my monthly running has gone down to 300-400kms per month.

This makes my total running around 2000kms for 6 months. And according to calculations, it would take me close to 18-months for an oil change (utilising the entire life of the engine oil)

My question is if 18-months is okay as a time period for engine oil change?

I can switch to Motul 5100 later, but currently, I have 3-4 bottles of Motul v300 in stock.

v300 is a synthetic oil and I dont see a problem in using it for 18 Months. If it would have been mineral oil then you should change it in 6 months.
Even if you look at new cars, they are using it same engine oil for 12 months.

I would suggest to use the v300 oil in your bike.

But still I change my engine oil even if I ride only 2500 in 6months with shell ax7 advance.
Some people may say that I am wasting oil, So be it.

Engine oil is cheaper than engine works!

I think you could use it for 10 months atleast, many manufacturers have a service interval of 1 year.

It could! But I redline most of the times, also it's very dusty in the place I live.
And I own Hero Impulse.its my primary bike and the parts are hard to come by.so I won't take any chances!

Your information is true for Miniral oils and not synthetic oils.
Even Cars uses these Synthetic oil is used for an year (company prescribed).

Cars have 2 chambers! For transmission it has transmission oil and separate oil for the engine chamber.
But in motorcycle there is only one chamber where engine oil needs to lubricate both engine and transmission at the same time.

I agree, but we are talking on oil life if it is not used too much or sitting idle.
Again, car engine produces more heat that bike due to bigger size engine.
