It may make your pocket harder tooOriginally posted by Raccoon View PostI wouldn't say synth will be a waste! It may make the gearbox smoother... and may also extend its life. But if your use is low/not so severe... you may be wasting money.
Rx needs 20W40 as far as I remember. Don't use 20W50.
Personally, I'v been using Castrol CRB in my Shogun.
have personally used valvoline 20w50 i am satisfied with it.

Anyway, I guess you should check the oil levels once more - IE... get the oil changed, run for the designated 2K KMs and see how the oil level is...
BTW, where did you buy the Power1? are you sure it is original and is not counterfeit? Castrols suffer with the duplicates problem.
Hi,
my highway runs are generally not beyond 80-85 kmph. I maintain this speed for most of time..... no pushing to limits.
The oil was bought from the Bajaj service centre..... I've tried the changing formula. Let's see what r the results now. !!sigpic

Guys I own a 12500Kms old P200.
I am gonna use fully synthetic Motul's 300V for the 1st time. Is there any extra procedure to remove the old mineral oil, or is it ok if we do the normal drain and fill?
P.S: I bought the oil from the wholesale dealer at Ramapuram, Chennai. he said the MRP has become 795 Rs now. though he charged less, its no longer 600 Rs

But going by how much other oil filters cost, this should cost around Rs 50.
Well theoritically they can be replaced. Coming to the point, Pulsars have a metal wired mesh on the right side of the engine which is a layer of strainer like filter. No Conventional oil filters like the ones on the other bikes(the ones that look like a small k&n).
And i heard form Venkat that these filters on the Pulsars dont need that much of cleaning. Moreover the engine cover on the roght should be removed to gain access to it.When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

Ravi is currently on Moto4Gold (20w40) mineral oil. He told me last night that he's replacing oil and going for the same again to test it completely. When he used Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40 (Semi Synthetic) and Petronas Sprinta 4T 5000 (Fully Synthetic) he didn;t have any issues with gear shifts. He hasd issues when tried Valvoline Premium 4T 20W50 and with one more that I don't remember.Originally posted by Sarvajit View PostOk, why do certain bikes' gearshifts&engines get a bit rougher with semi/full-synths? Ravi met me just now&says his ZMA gearshifts have become hard&both my bikes are growling due to the synthetic oils.
So, it is with the thicker oils and not with whether it is synthetic or mineral.
Ravi, am I right?

Yeah, he also told me the same thing. Lets confirm it with him once again.Originally posted by HydBiker View PostRavi is currently on Moto4Gold (20w40) mineral oil. What do you have to say about my bikes growling? No change in gearshifts though.
R15 runs on Yamalube SL semi-synth 15w50.
Fiero F2 runs on Petronas Sprinta 4T 5000 10w40 as you know very well.Quench my thirst with gasoline!

I was only telling what we noticed with Ravi's bike... not trying to conclude anything. For that matter my Victor had better gear shift with Gulf Pride 4T Plus 20W40 than with Gulf Pride 4T Plus 10W30
Both JASO MA & API SL. If my words in the previous posts were making a statement, these words now should contradict with them
Each bike has its own mechanism and each rider has his own style of riding and riding conditions. Not every oil would fit everyone's bill. We can only speak about some generally good stuff or generally bad stuff.
And yes, I am surprised when people stated that the high revving R15's engine showed no difference with Motul 300V FL 15W50 - among the thickest oils available for us here. Beats me. Well, that's why I don't work with Yamaha or Motul

You are right. I understand your point. I don't think you can attribute your Victor's gearshift smoothness reducing due to the oil change. It could just be an age related phenomenon!Originally posted by HydBiker View PostI was only telling what we noticed with Ravi's bike... not trying to conclude anything. The growling for my bikes IMO is due to the thickness of the oil. In any case, my Fiero F2 is running on Petronas which is 10w40, so shouldn't be much of a difference.
Coming to Yamaha, I was wondering why Yamaha came out with Yamalube 15w50 instead of 10w40, but if anything goes wrong I can always blame them!
As long as smoothness&gear shifts are not affected, growling is not a problem for me!Quench my thirst with gasoline!
