    Oops, my bad. :P

@arvindraju: I recommend you going for semi-synth 5100 now as your bike has completed the run in phase of 2000 kms. Motul mineral is good, but Motul semi synth is more VFM, IMO.

There is another option for you Shell Helix : 20W50

I have heard it's a good mineral oil. But no idea about availability in or around Bangalore. Shell bunks should have stocks of it though.

Shell Helix 20W50 is meant for cars only, its not JASO certified so cannot be used on bikes

Shell Helix 20W50 meets the specification levels API SG/CD.

True, it is a thicker oil meant for diesel engines but that doesn't mean you compulsorily should not run in a bike. Bikers have used Shell Helix and have not received complaints even after long usages.

You could also go for Shell ADVANCE VSX4 15W-50. But again, I am not sure of its availability in Bangalore.

          Shell ADVANCE VSX4 15W-50 is semi-synthetic.

Shell Advance SX4 is mineral based, has a 20W50 variant, will check for this availability

Shell Advance S4 is also there, dont know if its available

          • ^ Dude, dont bother too much when it comes to mineral oils. The difference between each brand of oil is not as much for you to take so much tension. Put whatever xW50 mineral motorcyle oil you are getting at your service centre for the first 5K kms, replace the oil every 1.5-2K kms..and then move over to either Motul 5100T or 300V.

.... or if you really are hell bent on a mineral, then you will have to ask around/wait for Motul 3000, which is, no doubt, the best among minerals.

But why a mineral if you can get oil which lasts longer without effecting your engine is my question. Semi-Synthetic and Fully Synthetic were quite unknown to bikers in India when they first came, and the hesistation to put them was understandable, but now they have proven their worth. You have already done quite a few kms on your bike, I think enough for you to make the switch to semi-synth.

pranay as many people have pointed out in this thread, its best to stick to mineral for the first 5K Kms.

Well, if you are asking me, I jumped too early as well. I put 300V when the Odo read 2xxx kms and used it for another 9-10K kms. Now bike is nearing 16K kms, and I just changed back to 300V from Castrol junk. (used it for 5000 kms in between) I am so glad I did. You can easily make out the difference in gear changes.

from my view ... Avenger cannot take the take the hard reving that pulsar can take, since the engine is tuned in a different way for a crusier, better to stick to mineral for some time

Avenger has the pulsar engine. It is de-tuned. That's all. Same engine configurations. The gearing has been changed to suit a cruiser. But anyways, thats OT. Good luck finding that mineral oil you exactly want.
