  • Engine Oil for R15

Hi Guys! I own an R15 that has done 3k so far..
The bike is currently running on Mineral Oil, that was poured in at 1st service (1k kms)..
Would you guys recommend continuing with a fresh replacement of mineral oil, or is semi-synthetic more advisable..?
My service should come up at roughly 3.3k..

The pleasure is when your rear wheel slides, and you bring it back; and when the front wheel lifts, you take your time bringing it back.

      • I use castrol power 1 for my 2 yr old Pulsar 180.
By 3000 kms it needs Oil change. Also the oil level decreses by 1500 kms only. Is it normal or my bike is burning more E-oil ? What could be the issue if any ?

Thanks! I have completed 3k already.. Do you mean to say another 3k i.e. 6k?
BTW, mineral oil doesn't last as long as semi-syntheitc or synthetic oil, right? (I mean mineral becomes thinner soon I guess)

How strictly did you follow your run-in? If you have not yet ripped your bike then I would suggest stick to mineral. Otherwise, I suggest you switch to semi_synth. It lasts longer and runs cooler.

Not sure of the newer Yamalube but the older one when we had only one type API SJ in gold colour, that lasted all 3000 KMs in an R15 and was in pretty good shape when drained. So, I expect the newer one to be at least as good. You may want to stick to it until your 3rd service.

                @tourer_kashif

I guess oil level going down is a very common problem in the pulsars. Just top it up regularly or instead of power 1 use a regular oil and change it every 1000 KMs (as your service interval is 2K KMs it enables two oil changes in that interval)

I strictly followed the run-in.. Kept the bike below 4k RPM till 1k kms..
Then opened it upto 7k till 2.3 kms..
Have opened it up fully now (post 2.3k kms).. Also I have clocked 3k on the odo as of now..
I kind of rip it daily (after warming-up the engine enough ), if I find open roads..

                    Thanks bro!
I guess I will make do with another round of mineral oil then.. Will shift to semi-synth at 3rd service (6k Kms), or maybe a little earlier if I find the oil is affecting the performance adversely..

Not sure if its specific to Pulsars or if its specific to Motul oils but I have observed many P180/200/220 bikes running Motil oils complaining of Oil leaks in the head and/or rapid fall in oil levels.

Should not be a big issue if you want to switch over to a mineral after synthetic... but its really not a good idea to keep doing this. Mixing stuff can have unpredictible outcomes. If you wanna stick to 300V, its not the best thing to to just mix Elf in between.

                          • I'm planning to experiment with a new engine oil after using motul 5100 for a long time.
this time I'm thinking of PETRONAS 10w40 synthetic. @250 rs.

But the question arises whether this will suit P200(recommended 20w50)
                            its all about CC...

coz so many ppl have complained about this and i hv experienced this on my bike too ....dont know th ereal reason...or wht exactly hpnd ... but i used Motul fully synthetic oil ( Rs. 750/=) once and next time i went for servicing there was not a drop of oil in my engine. since then my bike started consuming oil... then i went in for block piston change along with clutch plates, valves...etc..then i went in through the running in process for 2000kms and it was all fine till running -in .....but now when i rip my bike it is again consuming oil.....i m totally confused wht the problem is.. now i m using power 1,.....and this drinking phenomenon happens only when the bike crosses 90 kmph mark. now my line of action is like this...on 14th of this month i will go to probiking service center...get my engine compression checked...then i will go to my usual service center and do a normal servicing, measure the amount of oil left...and this time i will put castrol 4t xtra, coz its written on castrol website that this oil reduces the bikes tendency to consume oil...and the castrol bike zone guy here in pune also recommended it....i have written a letter to bajaj also...lets see wht hpns....btw....yesterday i hv beaten the shit out of an RTR and FZS...see the bikes performance is ok...dont know where all the oil goes....and my bike doesn't emit smoke also...???
