Can u tell me what was the bad experience??? coz i am using semi-syn version of yamalube for my FZ16... its really awesome, coz for an ordinary mineral oil which looses its smoothness after 1000+kms, but this will last for my 3000km service period...

I cant attribute the use of synthetic oil for the damage.Recently changed my bikes block, piston and crankshaft..Oil level used to drastically drop when i used petronas whereas i never had this problem with Honda engine oil

Well,i was only thinking about using oil from other brands.I don't plan to go for fully synthetic(heard a lot of issues happening to bikes like unicorn) but either semi-synthetic or mineral.

Hei buddy where in TVM? Me also from there...
Anyways no need to go for fully syn version, coz it's way too much costly, i would recomend a semi-syn version definitely more than a mineral oil...

Well i have experimented all sorts of oils(on my cousins unicorn).I felt the honda oil was the best.Just my opinion.

              • ^^^ Dude just try other 20W40 oils and see for yourself. Gulf seems to work real well in Unicorns also. Elf, Veedol Super Swift, Petronas are also good options.

that'd have happened only due to the age of the bike. If the block & piston are about to give away then any oil level drops significantly.

that's bad. no guessing why and how!!!

Was the bore & piston kit replaced?

Anything else in the crank case?

A bad oil would affect the crank too - the connecting rod would develop play.

For how many KM's did use that oil? I've been using the same from past 14K KMs my R15 and am happy with it. Also using the same in my brother's RTR for past 10K KMs and happy with it. At least the Unicorn's engine is much durable than the RTR's!!!

Yes,replaced both block and piston.I have been using this oil for 15k/1.5 years.Replaced the oil at every 3000km.The bike performed very well with the oil,but for some reason the level used to drop. The svc works manager henceforth advised me to use mineral oils only.I have been using petronas syntium 800 in my 11yr old zen,and she's running quite fine(touchwood).Maybe the 10w40 oil is too thin for the unicorn.
Abut the crankshaft, there was play in the big end, hence had to replace that too.Earlier about a month back i lost compression( right when i was overtaking a truck at the speeds of 110) because one of the valves got stuck.Reason due to excess carbon deposit.

I hav done more than 22k kms and still haven't changed. Is it ok?

If you feel some stiffness while pressing the lever or if the cable has developed rust then its time for a replacement.
About the mineral oil,yes you will feel the difference. You can give it a shot,no harm done, and once you feel you have found the perfect oil for the bike, stick to it.

You have another friend in Hyd. DogG (Rohit) His Unicorn too gave problems by 30K KMs and the Honda svc center guys wanted him to change bore kit plus crank shaft kit. but he did it outside and changed the piston rings + valves.

He rips the bike everyday at almost top speed. I do see some common stuff between you two.

If a 10W30 is doing service for CBZ Xtreme then 10W40 cannot be too thin for a Uni. There is something else.

Change your clutch cables if you feel your clutch has become harder. Check it with a newer bike and feel the difference. Else leave it.

by changing engine oil you will feel the difference for sure. either +ve or -ve.

I rarely rip my bike,my normal speeds vary between 60-80kmph.I at very rare cases cross 100.
