  • Motul 300V 5w40 is 680 bucks. I guess 15w50 is more costlier than the 5w40 version. In bangalore, only one outlet sells Motul, Cherry Agencies on JC Rd.

I suppose the 5w40 version also suits the R15 as it is lubricated in 20w40 mineral oil when it comes out the factory line right? And won't 15w50 be too thick for the winters?

As far as my memory goes, both 5W40 and 15W50 cost the same!.

And yes, u r right about the grades. 15W50 would be too thick in these winters for an engine that is recommended a 20W40.

BTW,u also get MOTUL at many other places in Bangalore. Cherry Agencies is the ONLY distributor i guess, not that MOTUL is available only with them.
When everything comes ur way, u r in the wrong way ;)

I haave used W50 once on my classic CBZ.. if you have harsh engine @ high RPM range & if engine generate too much heat this is the best oil.. I had done 550kms in a day of hard ripping but still engine felt smooth due to higher grading & ofcourse Motul's tech

        • Has anybody used both 300v's of 5w40 & 15w50 grades? I'm currently using the 15w50, and although I'd anticipated a sluggishness, it didn't feel that way....
          You get the point?? :D

                • Guys, there's a Synthetic Oil from Shell for Motorcycles. Buggers didn't update their website but there is a booklet with this month's Overdrive and that has the photos & description of the Shell's Synthetic Oil in Advance Range (for motorcycles).

If someone has got the Dec 09 Overdrive, please give the full details here.

So its the mineral oil from Motul? I think so.
Do update the thread with your experience, i havent heard much great things about this oil. Am changing to Motul 5100 semi synth shortly at around 1500 kms.

Do tell how was your experience with the oil and whats the drain interval for it?

The Mineral oil from Motul is much much better than castrol.. I have used it in my Classic CBZ for around 2.5k Kms & it was all good.,

DOnt know about Semi synthetic in Motul cos I have'nt used it yet, but the 300V FL is gem of an oil.

Castrol is a overhyped product as far as i see. I had no option so i used it after 300 kms in bike till 750 kms for 1st service. Its an ok ok oil, engine heats up very quickly.

300V is an awesome oil, everyone says that. I will wait before shiting to that. Have 900 kms done on my 220, at 1500 kms will change to Motul 5100 and carry it till 4500 kms as thats the next scheduled oil change.

There are choices of Gulf Pride(semi synth) and Petronas to choose from. Offcourse, Motul is the favourite.

In my experience, going to semi-synth is good choice. The reason being is that after running 3000kms, both semi-synth and synthetic would have very little difference to you.

                              It is upto to you.

                              Happy riding....

Gulf pride 4t 20w40,works wonders with the unicorn. Why don't you give it a shot.Am currently using it.I have never felt the gear shifting so smooth in my 2.5 years of ownership.Previously used petronas full syn untill my block piston got bust.Svc advised me to use mineral oils only.
Ps-keep clear of castrol.Off late have seen a lot of spurious ones.
