Being a shell product the oil should be good or atleast not worst.Originally posted by Sirius View PostNOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

Try Shell Petrol bunks. They will stock the oil for sure and u need not worry about fakes.Originally posted by Greymatter View PostI want to buy Shell Advance VSX4 10W40 online. Tried ebay.in, planetdsg.com but no luck. In my city almost all shops has only Castrol, Servo engine oils in there stock. Please Help!Everyone falls down, doesn't matter...
But its how fast you get up, that matters.....

As of now there are no such sites from which you can buy shell oil. Try from you nearest bunk or in any big city near-by.Originally posted by Greymatter View PostI want to buy Shell Advance VSX4 10W40 online. Tried ebay.in, planetdsg.com but no luck. HP Gasenol Engine Oil (20W50/API SF) suitability with Pulsar 200
Hi Fellas,
Could anybody help me understand if HP Gasenol could be used in my Pulsar 200? It's rated 20W50 and certified API SF, but meant for High Temperature Gas (CNG/LPG) based Engine.
I am having difficulty finding 20W50 oils and more so genuine oils. I can pick this up from HP Retail outlet, so can be more assured of its genuineness.
Thanks in advance.

engine oil
no zafar, do the running part on mineral oil only, and then first switch to semi synth, and if u want more and test it, go for fully synth.Otherwise my advice would be to stick to semi synth, it's suitable for ur machine

For those who want technical information about these oils
Shell advance VSX4 - made entirely from group 3 base stock(severely hydro treated mineral oil) and they call it a blend or semi synthetic when it is actually a highly refined mineral oil and contains nothing synthetic!(currently using this one in my R15. i did some digging after i found that the engine got rough after 1000 or so kms. and found these facts!)
Shell advance Ultra - made from group 3 and 5 base stocks("blend of severely hydro treated slack wax and synthetic esters"). it is actually a blend or semi synth in technical terms and they call it Full synthetic!
Mobil 1 Full synthetic - made from group 4 base stocks(PAO) and qualifies as a full synthetic. but unfortunately this oil is not formulated for motorcycles
Motul 300V FL - Made from group 5 base stocks or esters. qualifies as a true synthetic.
God knows what power one Racing and agip FS are made from. i couldnt get their Technical data sheets. Agip is most probably a blend of group 3 and 4 base stocks. but i'm sure it is better than CP1R. and gotta appreciate Shell, Motul and Mobil for providing the Material Safety Data Sheet and Techical Data Sheet of their oils.
for those who find the 300v evaporating fast, try a higher viscosity grade.Last edited by FATAL1TY - X; 10-04-2010, 06:34 PM.2002 Herculese Top Gear 6 speed

damn...you 100% sure about this?i have just bought one and will be doing the oil change this week.Originally posted by FATAL1TY - X View PostShell advance VSX4 - made entirely from group 3 base stock(severely hydro treated mineral oil) and they call it a blend or semi synthetic when it is actually a highly refined mineral oil and contains nothing synthetic!(currently using this one in my R15. i did some digging after i found that the engine got rough after 1000 or so kms. and found these facts!)
and what about the MOTUL Semi-synth?are they actually semi synth?Smoke rubber, not tobacco.

the attachment. see for yourself.Originally posted by RanjithMN View Postdamn...you 100% sure about this?i have just bought one and will be doing the oil change this week.
and what about the MOTUL Semi-synth?are they actually semi synth?
motul semisynth is an actual semi synth. it says in it's MSDS that it has 1-6% of one of the PAOs(group 4 base stock) and it is ester based. so most probably it is a blend of group 3,4 and 5 base stocks. i'm not sure about the group 5 base stock part, but it defenitely contains group 4 base stock. so it is a semi-synthetic in all senses.
a word of advice, dont think that the vsx is a bad oil just because of this. but it is pretty good as other mineral oils goes. it is just that it looses its viscosity within 1500-2000 kms and requires changing before 3000km. its price is not that high end either. around 285/l(i get it for 250). just wanted to throw some light on how manufacturers plays with terms like "Semi synthetic" and "Full synthetic" to confuse people. it is their marketing strategy.Last edited by FATAL1TY - X; 10-04-2010, 07:05 PM.2002 Herculese Top Gear 6 speed

So you mean the semi synth VSX is as good as MOTUL but requires a short drain interval?
Thank youSmoke rubber,not tobacco.

i dont know about motul. i've never used that oil to find out. vsx is not a semi synth. it is a higly refined mineral oil. i think you know about that by now.Originally posted by RanjithMN View PostSo you mean the semi synth VSX is as good as MOTUL but requires a short drain interval?
Thank you
most probably motul will retain its viscosity longer. 2 reasons. 1st, it is an actual semi synth or a blend of a high quality mineral base stock and a synthetic base stock. and 2nd it depends on the viscosity grade. motul 5100 comes in different viscosity grades if i'm not mistaken. the higher the winter grade the longer it will retain its viscosity(only applies if both the oil uses the same base stock and the last number or the number after the "W" is the same for both oils). for eg lets take 2 similar mineral oil which uses group 3 base stock with different "W" rating, a 10w40 and a 20w40. in this case the 20w40 oil will retain its viscosity longer than the 10w40. meaning if the vsx came in a higher winter grade like 15w40 or a 20w40 then it sure should have retained its viscosity longer than the vsx with the 10w40 rating.
same way an oil with a better base stock will retain its viscosity longer. means lets take the above 2 grades, the 10w40 uses group 4 or 5 base stock(full synthetic) and a 20w40 uses a group 2 or 3 base stock(mineral or semi synthetic). in that case the 10w40 which uses the group 4 base stock will retain its viscosity longer than the low spec 20w40 oil. so the best thing to do is, if you know that you are using a low spec oil it is better to use a higher "W" grade(assuming the last number or hot viscosity stays the same) if you are not going to drain it any sooner. try to keep the hot viscosity or the number after the "W" the same as the manufacturer recommend.
the above mentioned viscosity differences depends on the additive package and other formulations of the oil and there is a lot more than this to consider when selecting a grade. thats why the easiest way is to go by the manufacturer recommended grade.
now coming to your question. yes, the motul 5100 can go longer without losing its viscosity comparing a same grade shell vsx. if both the shell and motul are of same grade, the shell requires a shorter drain interval than motul.Last edited by FATAL1TY - X; 10-04-2010, 10:19 PM.2002 Herculese Top Gear 6 speed
