Madhav on which bike you are using Agrip..

Its a yamaha gladiator.

whether the oil is synth or not.. what difference does it make??
btw which oil is suitable for HondaUnicorn/?? any ideas??

It makes a lot of difference. The synthetic oils can be used in the most extreme places where the mineral oils cannot be used. These oils tend to last longer than the minerals & moreover these provide better lubrication & above all a smooth engine.

But if your bike is new and done above 4000kms then you can use Synthetic oil use Shell Advance Ultra 10W40.

Actually the shell advance Ultra is not a full synthetic as it claims to be. Its a semi synthetic oil & the shell VSX is a highly refined mineral oil. A member had posted its datasheet few pages ago.

A very stupid query I want to ask regarding oils. I know where to put brake oil and engine oil. But many times on petrol pump, people avail for some lubricant to put in the petrol tank before filling it with petrol (I remember during my childhood when my grandpa used to take me for rides and when filling up the tank of his bajaj scooter, he used to put that lubricant first in the tank) .... I want to know why is that needed and since every one seems to put the same lubricant despite different makes, I am curious to know can I also try it on my XCD-135?

If your grandpa's vehicle is a 2 stroke then the oil used is engine oil. Its used in all 2 strokes & not at all meant for a 4 stroke engine. Dont use it even mistakenly in your bike.

Since your bike is unicorn use 20w40.

Motul don't offer 20W40 FS oil in India.I always prefer SS Oil and change it ever month SS oil cost me 275Rs where as FS oil Cost 900Rs Decide your self which you prefer.

There is a motul full synthetic oil of 5W40 grade. Although i dont remember its name. It was priced at something around 900 (too costly).

Try shell VSX or veedol SS. If you can extend your budget by Rs.120 then you can try agip full synthetic.

I hav used petrol from moped twice when my bike dried up completely. So do u say it might hav caused any kind of damage to the engine? I was not aware of this thing..

I have never used any petrol mixed with a 2T oil. So i cant comment about it. But i remember a guy on xbhp who reported some problems due to using such petrol. Maybe prolonged usage of such oil might cause any problems.

thats for old engines.. its no longer needed for new bikes.. it enhances the engine functionality and better flow and combustion (not sure abt. that..) of fuel in engine.. its only for old vehicles like scooters etc.. its more for 2 stroke engines.. what we get now are 4 stroke..

Thanks for your responses ... So the inference is for a 4-stroke bike only petrol goes into the petrol tank nothing else

If it is mineral 20w40. SS or FS you can try 5w40 or 15w50. Hope you have answer now. Let me know if it is still confusing.

*SS - Semi Synthetic, FS - Fully Synthetic.

go for the yamalube semi synthetic, its really working good for my r115 moreover its company specified and it won't troble for any warranty issues, the oil is really doing good

The grade of fz is 20W40 while the yamalube is 15W50. Using a thicker oil is not at all recommended by the company anywhere.

u can get in touch with any of the local dealers and they surely could be able to give you the details of the company personnels, i got the contact details of motul personnels from xbhp only but that was long way back.

I had used Motul 300V in my Karizma once and to my horror the oil level dipped below the 'low' mark in about 1700kms, I drained the oil and forgot synthetics for good.(The color was BLACK)

I do not want to top up oils in my Motorcycle, I would rather buy a cheap oil* (mineral/semi-synthetic) and change them more frequently.

Funny. I too have used Motul 300v on my Karizma-R for 4000+ kms. There was no noticeable difference in the level even after 4k.

For that matter, I have tried different oils, be it mineral, semi, or fully synthetic. The level seems to be almost the same even after 2k + for mineral/semi. I don't know what its like after that. But for mineral and semi, I changed them somewhere between 2 to 2.5k. For fully synthetic (both Motul and Castrol), I have comfortably taken it past to 4k without any noticeable dip in level. Also there was still life in them. But I didn't want to push it.

I always wonder how other people 's bike eat the engine oil. Mine never seems to do so. Never topped up till date. Bike is a little more than 18k now.

Any Idea?

Edit: BTW, moved to Thane. Having trouble getting good engine oil in Thane as I'm still not very familiar with where all these stuffs are available. Fully Synthetic or Semi Synthetic will do. Appreciate if someone can help where I can get them. Been to several shops selling engine oil. They are selling only the most basic mineral oil.
