It is said that with 20w40 engine revs less freely and probably fuel mileage will be a bit less and maybe even a bit less top speeds compared to 10w30/10w40 . While I could notice the little less free revving , I couldn't detect the other two . Maybe thats because I seldom need to ride over 90 now . But you CAN feel the engine protection right away , it's much less noisy , smoother and cooler , engine sounds gooood ( a friend asked me - your bike sounds so nice , kya kiya hain yaar ? - he knows I keep tinkering with my bikes haha ) . Oil level stays stable over a month , I skip checking it even . Another effect I noticed is the clutch engages quicker and with more pull & "snap" with 20w40, don't know exactly why this happens .
As for the differences between oil grades , it's a long theory thing ... you can find it all over the net , just google "engine oil" .

Best is to use Motul 5100. One of the fellow member (don't know if it was you only) has clutch plate issues while he used oil treatment. So, better look out for that factor. BTW, why not use Motul in summers?? I don't understand the logic??

next time, i desired to change oil to 20w40. but my top-up pack is 10w30 gulf pride- 700ml remaining
can i use it for top up?
any problem when i mix two grades?

              Comment

              • No problemo . You can use it ( 10w30 ) for topping up a different grade . ... or you can keep this away for use during winter , 10w30 works well during winters , because then the problem is engine getting cold quickly . You see , when we change the engine oil , more than 200ml of the old oil remains inside the engine sump and mixes with the new oil , with no detrimental effects . So you'll be mixing the two grades a bit anyway , first change ... . . I have never felt any difference in doing this . Moreover you wouldn't need much top ups with the 20w40 , even if you do 20w40 gulf pride is 1 liter pack , so a you'll have a bit leftover after the fill anyway too .

Any one using good fully synthetic oil other than the expensive motul 300v.Enough of changing oil and engine becoming harsh within 600 kms.220 is a oil destroyermy riding style is also hard so mineral oil is no more matching for my driving conditions.
