dude try any oil in the xW50 grade, the number "x" can be anything, make sure you don't change it lesser or more than W50. 20W40 is not recommended for an W50 recommended engine, read through this entire thread for more details

I did not comment earlier on your querry as I had anticipated you were going to do this paul . You never did pour water into your engine sump by mistake , did you ? or have any such real problem that you needed a solution for . You just wanted to endorse your gtoil product by making up a fictional situation . This is a forum for riders with real problems and real concerns and real information to discuss . I am sorry paul , but at this rate I shall have to report you for spamming the xbhp forums .

20w40 is available only in mineral oil , no synthetic or semi-synthetic in that grade that I know of here . The jury is still out on which is best .

As I can see your ambient temps remain between 20C-40C year around , you'd do well to stick to the most popular grade of oil in India . I do not know your riding needs & availability at your location, but if you choose to stick to mineral oils , which is good & adequate for your bike .. Motul 3000 4T plus 20w40 , Yamalube SG/SL 20w40 mineral (easily available at yamaha service) , Gulf pride 4T 20w40 , Shell AX3 & AX5 20w40 are all good oils .

                            • Is it normal for oil levels to drop after a long ride ?? I took my thunderbird to it's first long ride 2 days ago. Started with odo reading 1500KM and when I returned it was reading 1779. On the way back I noticed gearshift became harder than usual(Which is pretty hard and noisy for enfields) and every now and then false neutrals were visiting me. The next morning when I did some preliminary visual inspection on the birdy, I noticed oil level dropped a bit. I can always top up the oil level, but is this kind of behavior normal ??

                              • @anindyameister i guess the hard gear shifts was caused more cause of the chain drying up
