If you are hard on the throttle oil change need to be frequent I can roughly say some 1500 kms maximum if 10w 30 mineral oil is used.

But shifting to thinner oil means you won't get the smoothness that earlier you were getting with 20w 40. But it will be peppier. If you don't mind experimenting a little bit do give 10w 30 a try you can then decide if you wan't to continue or not . If you don't find it worth you can revert back.

        @MSN1
i didnt see whether the oil is expired or not
        im using
        HONDA DIO
        COMPLETED 29K KMS
        .
i live in oceanic climate !
        .
thinner oil ? can u suggest what type to use ?
        .
        my mechanic opened the head
        to check the rockerarms
        and they were fine
and he adjusted the tensioner too
        and sound reduced somewhat
        ,
but i still get the sound during start-up til 10 km/hr speed
im facing this from 2 months
after changing the self motor of the bike
could it be a problem ?
Refer the scooter manual and stick to the recommended grade
i believe for most of the scooters in Indian environment it is 10 W- 30 mineral
the default Honda OEM oil which was sourced from idemitsu

(valvoline or elf or motul or gulf or castrol or any make that u trust)

anything which is not regular rythemic noise from the machine refers its not normal,

check with another mechanic or ASC (thats a costly option) for fix

        • ill try 10w30 this time
          but what oil to choose
          .
          according to my experience
i feel the stock company HONDa oil is the best
          its ultra smooth
          .
i dont mind spending it by giving it to the service center but i only doubt the reliability because nowadays they just loot the people by saying some shit about the problem which really is'nt

anyways thanks a lot for the help guys
          ill try 10w30 this time
but suggest some nice brands in 10w30 grade

dont thank me yet bro, get it fixed first.
I think its some other problem. May be oil pump is not upto the mark (i'm not sure).
20w40 should flow effortlessly in 0'C & must flow effortlessly in 5'C.

To be frank hero moto corp's 10w 30 is one of the worst. They poured it into my Karizma when I purchased. I wanted to change the oil first time between 250-300 kms. When they drained the oil it was dark brown. The oil doesn't last much.

Try using 10w 30 of gulf if you can. I don't think it will damage the engine. My bike is recommended 10w 30 and I am now using 20w 40.

AFAIK, 10w30 will work good only if max temperature is below 30'C.
I myself use 20w50 oil in summers because 20w40 doesnt last more than 1500kms, because of temperatures around or more than 45'C.

I already told earlier that drain period will be shortened if 10w 30 is used . The oil won't last much. But since he wants to use it on his Dio atleast it will last 1200 kms I hope.

                          • Anybody here knows about Savita Oil Technologies Ltd? They used to manufacture Honda 20w40 oil for HMSI, under supervision of Idemitsu. Recently in their pack details, Idemitsu is disappeared and they are just writing Savita Oil Technologies. I would like to know if they are still using Idemitsu technology or any local technology. Anyone with a clear picture??

You can use higher grade oil than the recommended one but its not recommended to use a lower grade oil than recommended higher grade oil.
