              • Helmet Stinks

Guys, I know this is a very peculiar and weird problem I am posting here. But ours being a tropical climate everyone sweats in their helmets after long rides in the sun. Eventually after sometime the helmet starts stinking even if you regularly air it out. Is there any solution to this???

I guess you should buy one of those KBC or other such reputed helmets, that have Removable Fabrics.
I mean, you can remove its fabrics and wash them conveniently.

In the meantime, consider washing your helmet, but then again remember, it takes 3 flat days to dry up. Talking from my experience that is.

For a temporary solution with same helmet, you can use handkercheifs inside the lid. But this is as temporary as you are thinking it to be...

                      Two words: 'Removable padding'
Buy a lid that has the above feature and your odour issues shall be deodorized !

                      • The person who approved your query suggested me to go in for a cotton balaclava&it really works!

Edit: Now that this has come up, how to clean the padding of a helmet which does not have removable padding? Of my 3 lids, only one (the high end Vega) has removable padding. What should I do in case I want to clean the padding of the other 2-immerse the whole helmet into a tub of soap water&then allow it to dry for a day or two?

Well, what I do is wash the removable inner lining and keep them in sun for a short period of time, and the same with the inside-empty helmet too. The smell goes away. So I would suggest devote one non-riding day to this and helmet is good for another month or so!

Yes, it does get a little too hot at times, but if you want no stinking inside the helmet, then there are very few options, actually. Also, using a balaclava makes one feel "fresh" as compared to using lid directly.
                                :)
