Have posted the same in the helmets thread.

thanks for informing us, can you also share its website address, or any other such details.

there is actually shortage of good quality and affordable riding gear in india. hope this helps to bridge the gap.

Also, i would like some help from fellow members, this is the time of year, every year i go shopping for good quality raincoats, that i can use while riding. i ride a lot and in rains too, my office is 80 kms from my place, so 160 kms its going and coming back from office. and in lonavala it rains really heavy.

now, i have tried almost everything available in our country, from low cost raincoats to duckbags, even rain suits of Rjays and PGS biking gear, with a single result, they all fail within a month of using it.

i need good quality, heavy duty rainsuit for riding purpose. i even tried purchasing it from online websites like MSS, revzilla etc. but most of them do not ship to india and those who do ship to india, are charging something like 130 dollars to ship a rainsuit worth 50 dollars.

can somebody help me here, if anybody is aware about some good raincoats available in india, plz share the info or some good website that ships to india at affordable rates.
Sunnyside_up! , this is one product that is never looked at seriously by any of the domestic riding gear brands or importers of riding gear. kindly do something, if you can.

Website is not us yet.

What did you mean by "fail within a month" ? Do you mean that it works initially but does not last?

At SPG, we have worked on rainsuits for more than two years now with varying results, none completely satisfactory. The primary problems are breathability and cost.

It is possible to produce a low-cost rainsuit that is 100% waterproof that will last long. However, it will not breathe and because of India's humid climate, we will get drenched in sweat inside the suit. Most people (myself included) prefer to get soaked by rain than sweat, so that kind of suit is meaningless. The kinds that do breathe require technical fabrics that allow moisture to escape from inside while retaining its waterproof integrity. Materials like GoreTex, Hipora etc., do this quite well but are very expensive and push the final product price out of reach for the majority.

The products that do strike a balance between price and quality are already available locally, hence the reluctance to enter the same segment. Development work is still on, with the focus on striking a balance that is oriented towards performance but the going is slow since real testing can only happen in actual monsoons.

.......

there are various ways in which these raincoats fail, may be it will help you design a better one, and in turn we can get better products.

• Some raincoats which are of good quality as far as indian market is considered, like a Duckbag, are 100% water proof when pruchased, however they are not designed for motorcycle riding so ---

1. [*=1]they are not designed to fit above riding jacket. it may work for those with S,M,L sizes but for me who is XXL by default, i cant purchase an oversize raincoat to fit on riding jacket.
[*=1]the legs of trousers are not long enough for motorcycle riding and come up quite a bit while riding, we need long leg trousers, infact all raincoats made for bike riding come with extra long legs. there is a work around that use full height gumboots, but ....its a shortcoming.
[*=1]they are not designed to go over riding boots. somehow i make them work with my gumboots.
[*=1]inspite of all these shortcomings, they work relatively well for some time, then, the pants get torn from seat area, not exactly torn but due to constant extra stress on seat area (bum area), they get stretched and water proof coating comes off.
[*=1]the storm flap on the jacket zipper does not have a continuous, hook and loop closure, so if rains are heavy and i am riding for too long, water starts to enter through jacket zipper.
[*=1]if the rain is not very heavy but i am riding for long, still water gets collected in the part of jacket in front that gets folded and starts to get -in through zipper, there is work around to fold it in downward direction and constantly keep checking it to maintain it.

• Another good quality one was Rjays, it was of relatively good quality and expensive, but the waterproofing was not upto the mark due to breath-ability. it was 100% waterproof and 100% breathable, unfortunately it was neither 100% waterproof nor 100% breathable. it was beathable to some extent and waterproof to some extent. so in heavy rains water goes in through the material. however, it did not have problems -1,2,3,5 & 6. well designed raincoat. however it too suffered problem number -4. the owner was a good man and offered free replacement and that too without returning the one i had and that too he sent via courier without charging anything, coz we thought that particular piece had problem, however it was the same with other one too. may be it was not designed for heavy rains.

• last year i tried PGS biking gear raincoat. it is also same story repeated, to make matters worse, the seam tape welding was so poor, it had gaps in it and water easily finds its way.

actually international reputed brands give extra strength in seat areas to make it stronger, and so they might perform better for problem number-4.

i request you not to stop the development work as it is actually needed product. i request you to come up with two models if possible, a low cost one, which is not breathable but gives 100%, and i mean it absolute 100% water proofing and will last long even if i use it daily riding bikes.actually we can make this breathable to a very good extent by providing opening with overlapping material and plastic vent windows at strategic locations.

second one can be made of fancy materials that promise breath-ability as well as water proofing and can be priced higher.

another solution to the problem can be simply import these and sell it here, i will purchase it happily till 4000 rupees.

-------------------

in addition we also have shortage of water proof gloves, and dont have water proof over-gloves. this about this also.

I too have used a variety of rain gears, and found that most of them are good for a short ride or short downpour. Anything above 30mins makes me sweat so much that I am drenched completely from within. The gear does its job, but in doing so it ultimately gets you wet. Maybe some kind of breathable fabric would make things better, but, I have found even the expensive gortex boots fail to keep water out when in a huge downpour.

I dont know if its really possible to create truly breathable and at the same time waterproof gears, but have given up on the idea of a well made rain gears for Indian conditions.

Well there are others, but what you've mentioned are some of the best in the range. i recommended you go for the Hyperion. I've been researching myself, and have personally seen all 3 you've mentioned. The alpinestars have basic safety pads, its good but i think you don't get as much, not in quality but on safety.
SPGs are known for their quality and fair pricing. The new Hyperion has level 2 knox armour as standard.(wat the shop people told me) And compared with the helios, its on the next level. And they're both worth it. You can also check out spartans Achilles, same safety as the helios, and ₹100 difference but all cordura and a different design. So all you gotta do is choose one which looks better on you, and that's it..

If you want to know about other brands, there are DSG tritons, but it is NOT for any kind of warm weather, i tried it on for 5min and started sweating. Similar deal with Rjays jackets..
Check them out for yourself.. Then you'll automatically switch to the spartans..😉

Both the Helios and Hyperion are mixed-mesh jackets. Ie, The Helios is made of Cordura-Mesh mix. While the Hyperion is a leather-mesh mix. So, both are equally good in summer because of the mesh. Just a matter of choice, really.. If you search the thread you can find a lot of extra info on the jackets..

Considering all the options, I believe Helios will be apt for summers - few biker mates have it and they swear by its mesh construct.

A new retail chain of motorcycle helmets, gear, apparel and accessories stores is opening across India called MOTO 101. This is a multi-brand chain which will sell several different brands all under the same roof, with uniform pricing throughout the country. Bikers will get proper printed invoices and warranties that are applicable from the manufacturers at all the stores of this chain. The first store opened in Chennai in end-Feb, and the second just opened in Pune. Bangalore and Mumbai are planned next.

SPG has tied up with this company for all-India retail, which means that the entire SPG range of helmets and apparel is available at these stores. Since it is a multi-brand retail concept, they already have products from other brands too. Expect to see lots of new stuff coming out soon!

Any particular reason why the Capital is left out. Roaming for 1 month in Delhi for Spartan/Cramster Jackets and not even once did any shop have the stock. The conditions of shops getting stock is really pathetic here.

Same goes for SOL helmets. No stock since 40 days with Meandering. Had to go for THH as a desperate option.

Getting gears from MI depends very much upon luck. I had to get my jacket online, but, managed to get riding pants and knee guards when it was in stock. Fact is the fresh stock doesn't last enough days and then after depleted stocks, the arduous task of waiting begins.
Better try to get the riding gears online.
