Just want to say that there is no point in compromising safety. But safety also does not always mean costly (except ABS maybe), there are many cash strapped souls like me out there who can benefit from my experience, and hence this post. Also since I was free and bored. And also our souls are cashless but still free of the IT industry demon which makes our souls priceless rather than cashless (take that IT people yo!!! Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
      The girl said, 'NO!'

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

          • REV'IT Airwave Jacket - anyone?

            Hello,

Thanks to this thread, I've a fair idea of what riding gear(s) I need. A friend of mine has agreed to get me a riding jacket from the US and I've been on revzilla.com to find a good mesh jacket that's not too heavy to carry(for him). I like the REV'IT Airwave jacket. It's a textile jacket with no liners and has got good reviews. Does anyone have any experience using this particular jacket or REV'IT in general? Was unable to find any reviews of it (or REV'IT) in xbhp, hence the question. I sweat profusely and hence looking at mesh rather than any other. Already have a 2 piece rain suit and I am not particularly into touring.

            Cheers

Rev'it in general are pretty excellent stuff, though a tad costlier, excellent stuff overall. I reckon this jacket doesn't have a liner associated with it, but then at $200 it ain't a cheap jacket too. At least I would have liked a liner, not all days are gonna be hot

There are more excellent reviews from Revzilla and Motorcycle superstore, and in depth review given by each customer, which should more than suffice what people here are gonna review it, if the case that is.

So if you like it, go through the reviews, take your time, then make up your mind. Reviews everywhere are the same, and no one can comment than a customer who bought it. Go ahead through these sites, you'll find all you need.

              Cheers!

Haha yes I should have tagged you in my post above... as my FB friend...!!! Really glad to hear your jacket got an owner in your friend! You know I am thinking that each jacket comes with its own destiny, and eventually always ends up with a worthy owner! The owner may not always be original but the stories always are

Would have been great to meet your friend, and also have a look at the jacket in person unfortunately could not make it to the ISG2G this year but in any case I am sure going to be there for next year...!!! (regardless what the mayans have to say on the subject! :-| )

My thoughts exactly. I would have preferred to have a windproof liner, but that's how it is. Thanks VJ. Will post as to how it goes.

                    • I bought Cramster Riding pants this sunday...
Went to Meandering India to pick cramsters turtle tank bag but it was not available. only Dirtsack was in stock.
I bought it as I was in hurry because this weekend I'd be riding to my hometown and so the need was urgent. while looking at the options for it found riding pants in stock and when asked Rajiv bhaiya, he said he got it in my size (I'd asked him to bring one in my size several times ); so bought the pants as well... Would check the quality and comfort coming saturday... got 1200 kms one way to test it...

I'm about to buy my first real riding jacket and a pair of gloves. I was thinking about getting DSG Rage (a red one to go with my red zma), but I read in one of the user posts on the other bhp site that DSG Rage is a bit flimsy (if you google the jacket's name with word flimsy, the post shows up in one of the first few pages). Does anyone here have any experience with Rage? Any opinion on how it compares with DSG Nero or any other jacket in the armor quality/jacket material quality/durability department? I am not concerned about the jacket's rain proofing or winter protection.

But don't want to get something which has sub-par protection or something which will be uncomfortable in summer (or becomes too smelly when its hung on the back of your office chair! It shouldn't become a sweat-smell-beacon in just a couple of 25 miles office rides any opinion on this area will be helpful too) - so confused between the two. If the Rage offers almost similar protection as Nero (say 75%?), I'll go for DSG Rage itself. I know these questions are a bit absurd, so please pardon my ignorance. Any suggestions on the gloves would also be very helpful. If you have any other suggestions for jacket/glove, please pitch in then too.

I am not too keen on looking Spartan jacket only because I can't try it in person in Bangalore, and will involve the work of getting it shipped/try/return in the worst case scenario. The same decision goes for Scoyco, as the distributor in Bangalore has no jackets in stock. So remaining options are either DSG or Swift.

                            Please advise and thanks!

Rage is a ventilated jacket with a broad section of mesh. Moreover Rage comes with a removable waterproof liner which can be stowed away in back pocket when not in use while Nero has a thick winter liner. This makes the jacket lighter in weight and your reviewer might have considered it 'flimsy' compared to Nero.

                            • Knee guards for use under normal jeans vs. riding pants

                              Hi all,

I already have Alpinestar Gloves and jacket and the next piece of kit I would like to buy is for knees/shins... And need some help/suggestions from those who have used them. I have searched through the forum, but have still not found any conclusive answers...

So firstly, is is better to go for riding pants (e.g. from Cramster or Planet DSG) or use knee guards under normal jeans? I understand both have their plus and minus, but my primary objective (at least for now) is using it daily for office commute - so practicality and ease of usability comes high on list.
                              1. Can the riding pants be used throughout the year or do they feel too hot in Delhi's summers?
                              2. Can the riding pants be worn over jeans (this would probably be only practical in winter season)?
                              3. How is the fitting of the Cramster Velocity 2.0 and DSG Nero pants - is there a risk for knee guards to move a lot in case of a fall or is there some way to tighten the pants around knee properly? Also, does the armor in these pants have shin protection too?
                              4. Any reviews/comparison on Cramster vs. DSG pants?
                              5. Can the Thor Sector (see link) or Ebay Fox (see link) or Ebay Raptor Fox (see link) be worn under normal jeans (slim fitting ones)?? I would prefer to wear them under jeans as outside they will scratch the tank of my CBR 250..
                              6. Any personal reviews on the knee guards mentioned above - are the ebay ones absolutely worthless?? Any other recommendation for slim profile knee guards?

In the worst case scenario, I will buy a pair of slim knee guards for wearing under jeans on a daily basis (if I can find any) and a riding pants only for long trips..

I've been using Riding pant from Spartan, ODYSSEUS
These pants are good and comfortable for long and multiday rides, used this for Ladakh trip this year and this was the only pant I wore all 10 days.

                                1. Can the riding pants be used throughout the year or do they feel too hot in Delhi's summers?
Riding pants are generally made of abrasion protection material and they are quite hot during summer, think of it as a textile jacket.

                                2. Can the riding pants be worn over jeans (this would probably be only practical in winter season)?
Think of it as a regular pant, no need of one more layer of full length garment inside it..... I just wear boxers under them.

For daily commute, I guess knee guards are our best bet.
