The Bionic ones offer a little more protection by covering the whole knee joint and has a small aluminium insert for added strength.(I wonder how much that strength increases over the non-bionics though..) Lastly, the Bionics are pretty huge and don't forget, expensive. Also, they will most definitely scuff your bike's tank. Don't know about the Non-bionics though.
Also, the reflex ones by Astar seem to have longer shin-area protection, atleast from the pics. While the Bionics are mainly knee guards ONLY with a small area covering the shins upto the middle of the shin-bone.
I plan to buy full length riding boots later on and a proper textile based riding pant as well. So in either case(i.e with the Bionics or with the Riding Trousers,) the boots would complete the leg protection to quite an extent.
All the best with your decision.
Sorry, if I may have confused you.

But, these are definately gonna scratch your tank as these are worn outside and at times the knee area does touch the tank..you might have observed this
. I guess will be going for the reflex as of now, as no way of trying on both to test the safety offered.

. It's frustrating to live on the other side of the country.
