TBG Sport Gloves Review
After returning my Spartan Ares Gloves on warranty and having a dismal time adjusting to my old shitty probikers, I decided that I needed a new pair ASAP. Did some research and zeroed in on the TBG Sport Gloves. Here's the review -
The packing sure was protective as hell. Didn't have any qualms signing before opening it because it was taking so damn long to do the same! :P
Opened the package and this is what comes out-
Overall fit and finish is top notch and also they are very comfortable to wear. They look absolutely gorgeous as well! I probably took them out and wore them again while taking pictures 3-4 times and within that period they had gone from super tight to just perfect. I don't know if that's how long it took for them to break in but if it did, awesome job TBG!
The highlight of the gloves has to be the KNOX SPS (Scaphoid Protection System). They are a pair of hard plastic sliders that are shaped to make sure your hands effectively slide straight over the surface of the tarmac instead of causing the wrist to bend inwards or sideways in the event of a crash. Now this is something you find only on much more expensive gloves, like the Scorpion SG3 or Knox Biomech Gloves (both costing $139 and $199 respectively). Kudos to TBG for bringing such technology available at such a price.
Huge Carbon-Fibre protector for the knuckle.
It's a floating knuckle and hence won't get in they way while twisting the throttle. Stretch panels to aid in the same.
Metallic (Titanium?) sliders to protect both sides of the wrist with TBG logo. Look very cool IMO!
Plastic and Metallic Sliders for Index, Ring and Middle finger. Pinky and thumb get hard fabric-like protectors.
Strange to see that they went with a single cuff velcro compared to the two cuff system that is the usual segment standard. Probably because of ease of removal.
TBG keychain as well. Sweet!
If I had to nitpick, I'd say the "Sport" logo above the knuckle looks rather plain and tacky and a different font would have looked much better. All in all the gloves cost me ₹3999 + ₹300(shipping), which is absolutely brilliant pricing solely just for the level of protection they have. The TBG staff was very prompt and helpful in providing all the necessary information. Thanks for making this a blissful experience guys, cheers!

Both your choice is good. I would suggest also have a look at SPG Icarus cost 4800/- its a mesh jacket with best in quality. It doesn't come with thermal liner, but u do get an option on purchase either to go with rain or thermal. It also has better protection than the other two you mentioned.
For size go and try one for yourself.

I purchased (more than a year ago) a pair of FOX knee and elbow guards for 350 bucks which I was using (only) for long distance touring until I bought a riding pant. This knee guard is designed to be worn inside the pant, so upon wearing it over the pant the top part of the knee guard does not stay close to your lower thigh (around and a little over the knee cap) rather remains open (lack of velcro on the upper part of the knee guard).
Then I bought a pair of AXO knee and elbow guard for 600 bucks (Feb this year), the padding was very thin but had a great fit and great adjustability having 4 velcros for knee guard and 2 velcros for elbow guard.
Since the Fox knee guard was quiet big in length covering till the end of your shin bone (till ankle) I was having a feeling it would not be easy to carry around and a little bulky for city use. So I tried wearing the elbow guard on the knee and Voila it fits perfect (with velcro at the upper part of the guard) and looked neat too.
I was anyway not using the Fox elbow guard so i removed the padding from it and put it in Axo elbow guard and now the padding is like 8-10mm and easy to carry and fits and looks neat.
Total cost involved 950 bucks, time for jugaad 15 mins, and you get an extra pair of knee guard as a spare (may be for pillion!

Facing the same issue as yours, mine are Spartan Pegasus though and I noticed these holes today.
Funny thing is I ride a Duke 390 as well and use it for daily commute to office for 15kms.
Not sure if it is covered under warranty.
Did you mend it or replaced them?

Coming to pillion comfort, specially on a Duke, it does give that extra comfort for pillion and long term feedback from pillion is whenever I remove seaty for a day or two during bike servicing intervals, she did felt the difference and asked to strap it back ASAP.
The strap was torn once after long term use, Via terra guys repaired it free of cost. Even with their other gear, the quality speaks for itself.
I'll be penning down a review of my riding gear soon, now that I have used them for an year.

Viaterra recently launched a new product called 'viaterra seaty' which is a small saddle bag cum pillion seat. When there is no luggage, it can be folded and compressed and acts as a cushion for the pillion. In its expanded form it has a capacity of 12 litres which should be enough for day rides or at the max a ride with 1 night stay if you pack light. It is very easy to tie it around the seat, can be done within 2 minutes. Will post a review once I use it for a few rides.

Disclaimer - I'm only going to share my experiences & thoughts there will be some comparisons that may or may not be at acceptable levels, so, pls take those comparisons with a pinch of salt
Background
Last Friday, the SPG Helios (version 2) that I've been using since Mar 2013 that was doing its job dutifully for a little over 47000 Km met with a minor illness!! The zipper broke off. That was just an excuse to buy another jacket. Not because I cannot mend, not because I want to discard it, but the jacket has served for quite long time, the elastics at the elbows have been stretched beyond imagination & I wasn't sure giving to any shops will they even be able to find an exact replacement YKK zipper like what Helios has. So, I called up @sunnyside_up to rescue as usual & here's an excerpt of the conversation...
me : Helios gave up & I'm in no mood to fix it, have you got any new models lined up?
ssu : For the kind of Weather Chennai has, I will recommend a good mesh jacket
me : Nah!! I don't want Helios not because its bad or something; Helios is a benchmark product & has proven records in my books; I would like to try something else
ssu : Ok, what's the purpose?
me : Everyday use to office etc etc
ssu : Other than Helios, I don't have anything to offer you man, sorry
me : Ok, no issues, I'll try something else, thanks
Research
That was Friday evening; I spent only an hour to shortlist the products that I should be looking at; RJays Octane, All Weather Jacket & Rynox Tornado as the store where I'll be heading to buy is already on mind - Velavan Merchandise (http://www.velavanmerchandise.com/)
Short intro about the store - They're in the business for quite sometime (even before Spartan Progear) & the owner, I hear, is an avid bulletter & they started of with Velavan Motors, RE showroom. So merchandise is another unit where they've always been reseller of multi branded riding gears. They're currently selling RJays, Crapster, Rynox, Viaterra, Wildcraft, Puma, Mucoff brands products. I'm not going to say anything about the helmet they stock because, they've nothing but LS2 brands & I'm no big fan of LS2 after using SOL & MT helmets. I wish Velavan simply eradicate their huge LS2 collection & bring in some more brands & models. Sometimes it makes me think if they were the manufacturer for LS2 brand or something!!
They've an exhaustive collection for GoPro as well
RJays Swift or Rynox Air -GT
Crapster was simply out of my radar despite I see their jackets are offering best VFM & pleasing to look; Vythi & Ashish in the store are extremely generous staffs, I've always seen them showing their courtesy to all the customers in their showroom. They were now left with RJays & Rynox; I couldn't get a XS size in RJays Octane & was left with RJays Swift. The quality of the mesh material looked very soft (may be extremely high quality or a flimsy one) & it had only one internal pocket (and no external pocket) & I didn't feel it was worth for the price of Rs 5999. Whereas Rynox Air-GT came with a quilt, rain liner & the mesh looked similar to Helios. And from the price point, Air-GT was hardly any difference. So I picked up Air-GT from Rynox this time.
Rynox Air-GT First Impressions
The size that suited 99.9% snug fit was "S" (Helios was M, Powertrip & Joerocket were S). The first jacket when I pulled down the zipper, the Rynox labeled zipper holder came off my hand. It was told to me that this is quite common with Rynox (Helios never had this issue despite abused) & they got me a different jacket. It was a learning for me that I've to take care of Rynox Air-GT like handling a cry-baby!!
The length of the hands were slightly shorter; I should've used my Powertrip for this review, unfortunately, I could not get it from the loft so I've used Helios for now. Air-GT has 2 fixed position fastener at elbow & below shoulders (all other brands that I owned had only one at elbow)
The outer & inner quality of this jacket is acceptable for this price, but the quilt & rain liner (yes there are 2 liners for this model) are pathetic & the engineering of this jacket can be improved a little more but functionally, I'm yet to test how it performs during rain or cold weather. As far as dry/hot day, I came home riding & found the ventilation is at par or even exceeds Helios. May be because its new, but I'll post a review after doing few 1000 Km or when the jacket gets dirty.
Rynox Air-GT Review
As its quite evident, the reflectors are better on Helios; since Helios is a little premium offering from SPG, I would like to say may be comparing it with a product like Icarus from SPG MAY be better. But, I don't have Icarus with me, so pls take this comparison with a pinch of salt. However, does it cost goes up like hell if there were a few reflectors added here & there?
Rynox has only one water proof pocket compared with one water proof & regular inner pocket on Helios
The Rain Liner
Sorry to say, its one of the most flimsiest material that I've ever seen in my life!! I don't know what material they use to make a rain liner, but, this is one I think its made out of rubber!! I really cannot accept this as a rain liner. Helios also had a bad one, but, after seeing this, I've changed my opinion. I think Helios has a "not bad" rain liner. Now compare this with the Power Trip (and JR also had a similar type of rain liner). Also notice the length of the hands (both Power Trip & Rynox are of S size); cost cutting is quite evident here
The Quilt Liner is a quite welcome one, but again, I'm not sure how much of warmth it would bring during a cold weather.
Surprisingly the quilt has a pocket for mobile phone, which is a practical & welcome feature & I'm sure it can hold the modern day mobile phone as well
Closer look at both rain liner & quilt
This rain liner is from Power Trip & this is what I've been using with Helios so far & this is what I intent to use with Rynox as well
No extra features in Air-GT compared to Helios. But pls don't ask me how many times I've used that loop, I would say hardly some 2-3 times. But still, I would welcome such features
Quality of Mesh is good/at part on Rynox with Helios, Power Trip or even Joe Rocket (I'm glad I didn't pickup RJays); a closer look comparing Rynox & Helios. The good quality was quite evident from my short ride from the showroom to home on a Sunny day. The forth coming days will tell the rest of the story
Notice the microfiber material used at the collars on Rynox compared to the removable component in Helios (which I haven't had to touch it until now). On Helios, its one of a good engineering & the material didn't give me a chance to change it even once until now. On Rynox, I'm already seeing the burbling on the material, I'm not sure how long it will last.
Armors - This is one section where I've to vent out my frustration!! Helios came with an upgrade facility to upgrade the jackets from CE-1 level protector armors to Knox armors. I'm glad that I opted that feature 2 years ago. The Power Trip & the Joe Rocket had a regular CE-1 protector armors that were like rubber & seem to be absorbing the energy during the impact. But Rynox is having the kind of armor that is like a foam. Really didn't expect this!! But then, one cannot expect a Knox armor to be available for the price tag of Rs 5550 as well; atleast a CE-1 level armor? Is that too much to ask?
Other Observations - This is one the welcome feature in Rynox, though I'm not sure how much of it will prevent the water or cold weather from letting in.
Final Verdict
- Although Air-GT & Helios cannot be compared as both offering from their respective brand are positioned at different segments, I'm only sharing my experiences of using them. MAY BE Icarus from SPG would've been ideal comparison, but, I don't have Icarus jacket with me to compare.
- The engineering on Rynox has to certainly improve; there's an immense cost cutting evidence observed right from the jacket to even the inner linings
- I can't comment on the quality of quilt for now, but, definitely it is missing a zipper to cover the body; the addition of mobile pocket on the quilt is certainly a welcome addition
- The rain liner from Air-GT will certainly find its way to bin; in addition to the bad quality, I still have a good rain liner from Power Trip which will certainly help me
- The armors on Air-GT will again be shelved, may be for life time or until the armors crack up. The Knox from Helios are already inside Air-GT
- Overall the Air-GT jacket gives me a good impression, but, certainly the inner liners & quilt has to improve upon their quality including the engineering. For this price point, there's probably no other jacket (not even the Icarus) in the market offering the warm + the rain liner on a mesh jacket which makes a huge plus that this can be used on Summer, Winter & Monsoon. However, with the same quality & engineering point of view, Air-GT will loose out to competition going forward even there were similar offering may be even with increased price
EDIT - After 2 days of use without the liners in Madras's hot weather, I feel Rynox is best suited on this weather as it lets super air flow while riding & I've never felt this kind of air gushing with other jackets.
Note - Last but not the least, Helios is one hell of a jacket; its extremely hard to beat that jacket in terms of quality+price+features+standards it is being currently in the market. [MENTION=8584]sriharsha_madineni[/MENTION],the tear is at a location that cannot be sutured.it's at a junction where the hard plastic palm protector meets the leather.which is why it is a wear and tear issue I feel.I'm looking at tbg gloves now.but for first timers I would advice they go for thicker leather glove models from spg or elsewhere(after sales service matter to me;spg not yet replied to my mail however.)
