  • What is the right fitting?

    What is the right fitting?

Helmets: I've seen people wearing loose helmets. Considering they can remove and take off easily with one hand while riding, not to mention..shove in a mobile phone as well. Perhaps its more comfortable considering Indian hot & humid weather. Are yours the same.

Another question on helmets. How often do you fasten the straps properly. Always?

My helmet fits snugly, meaning its impossible to shove in a mobile phone . And no, I cannot remove them with one hand either without seriously scratching me ears. I use the straps to pull the helmet slightly apart ad then put/remove them. And I never move before fastening the straps properly.

Riding Jacket: Often people would buy riding jacket rather than a full gear owning to practicality on daily usage. Here again, I've noticed, most seem to prefer slightly loose jackets rather than one that fits snugly. Rather like ordinary jackets that are slightly loose. Is this appropriate?
Riding jackets has armour, and these armour should be held in place firmly. With loose jackets, these armour will be pushed out of position where protection is required during a fall. Again, maybe loose may be more comfortable in hot weather but......
Those professional racers use one piece riding gear and the gear hugs the body like a second skin. Perhaps, jackets cannot be used in the same manner, but I feel that it should be tight/loose enough for the armour to be held firmly in place like the shoulder and elbows.
I recently purchased a Rjays jacket, one thing that impressed me was the fitting. It almost hugs your body. The shop had it in L/M/S. The shopkeeper recommended medium for me after trying out L & M. I said, I'd just like to just try the small and he went . Anyway I'm paying so he was happy to oblige . And the small one simply fits perfectly. All the inner armour were held in place firmly. BTW I am 5'7 and weighs 62 kg. Oh Yes, I got the small one.
Now my question is how fitting is your riding jacket?

    • Casual Riding Jackets in Delhi

      Hi Guys,,

I have been looking for a casual and sporty city riding jacket. I already have a NERO DSG mesh jacket with me, but since i have used it for an year, and sometimes for short city communting it looks way to heavy to carry. Can someone guide me to a store in delhi where i can have an option for good riding jackets , leather or artificial-leather or textile mix.

I m planning to visit Karol Bagh this weekend, any pointers will be great help. ..

I don't want to shell out more money but last resort will be alpinestarts air-flo jackt costing 12K.
Only thing Gods envy of mortals is that they ride.

Well I'd tried on friend's A* in size L and found it too tight. So I got myself an A* shipped from the US, in size XL.

Turns out the XL is tight too but its the exact kind of tight you mention.

        Edit:

I have the Air-Flo, and if you have no other options left, take it. Well worth it
Just remember, its just as heavy, if not heavier, than the DSG ones.

I have an A* XL RC1 leather jacket. It takes an effort to explain it to some friends why a motorcycle jacket has to be snug fit unlike the Hidesign leather ones :-)))

Mine should get delivered tomorrow - have heard good reviews but an update from a fellow NCRite will be helpfull - how well do you get roasted in it considering the Delhi summers

Well I got the jacket when I shifted to Delhi (Dec. 31) and I've been freezing since then. I'll find out soon though. But from the A* range this is the one with the highest air flow so should be good. We'll see.

                      • Riding Jacket

I live in Mumbai and ride thru one of the busiest junctions of the City, Sakinaka. I am looking for a jacket that I can use on a daily basis. Sometimes I am forced to wait for 3-4 mins at the the junction for a green in Mumbai's sultry summers.

I would have settled for elbow protectors if not for the short distances of fast riding on western expressway for couple of kms. I have started using Cramster bionic knee gaurds already.

Can some suggest a suitable jacket for riding in these conditions? It would be great if the jacket can be used for short rides of distances 250km round trip.

Jackets with removable liners are great but I could not decide on couple of them (from Cramster and DSG). Has anyone used any of these models in similar riding conditions? Thanks in Advance

Your best bet IMO is a mesh jacket. I use one, but still feel it gets too hot for daily use, so I use it only for touring.

Are you wearing your knee guard inside or outside your pants? Asking cause, got myself a pair of cramster bionic knee guard yesterday. Tried both outside and inside my pants and here are my observation.

I can wear it without difficulty both ways. Problem is when worn under pants, the knee guard is made of hard plastic with soft padding inside, the soft padding's edge are lined with nylon similar to those found on most normal bags. This nylon lining brushes against the skin and can damage skin if worn for long. I aim to see how to solve this problem as I prefer to wear them inside my pants.

Now, I can wear the knee guard inside my normal pants without problem (no need to be baggy). This does not mean anybody can wear it inside their pants as this will depend on how thick their legs are. If your legs are thick, then you might need baggy pants. More importantly, the bottom of the pant has to be large enough to slide through after wearing the guard, unless you wish to remove your pants entirely everytime you want to put on or remove the guard. No problems whatsoever when worn outside.

As far as rubbing against the fuel tank is concern. I wore the guard outside my pants and sat on my bike. Interestingly, only the smooth plastic surface portion comes in contact with the tank. I don't know how much harm they can do to tank in the long run. The aluminium nut that pivots the guard never comes in contact with the tank even when I press my knees against the tank. Again this could be attributed to...
                            1. My bike ZMA fuel tank design
                            2. Sitting style
                            3. My height (5'7), or rather the length of my legs.

I'm also from mumbai and use my riding jacket daily. I got RJays mesh jacket which does very well in mumbai heat. In fact for the past two days (3rd and 4th jan 2010). I was feeling rather chilly even with jacket when commuting . So today I got my inner lining.

There are quiet a few jackets to choose from..both imported and local. My suggestion would be strictly to go for MESH with 100% waterproof removable inner lining. DON'T go for non-mesh that offers openings for breathing, they are simply no good in mumbai heat.

                            • @Sarvajit. Thanks for the help.
@Kaynmantis: Thank for the detail review about Mesh. I will quite convinced. I will look for one soon.

The knee gaurds are to be worn over the trouser. a) in terms of the ease in wearing them and b)you can also save your favourite Jeans as well . Since your legs will be in bent position while riding they wont slip either.

in my case, the aluminum pivot rubs on the tank and has made visible scratches withing few weeks of usage. I was hoping to find a fix for this. Secondly if you are wearing them on your trouser expect some discomfort if you anticipate some amount of walking before riding. If not worn tight they my slip on the trouser. Jeans holds them better than a formal trouser. Another factor is the attention you would get. While there will be some people who will ask you about them or some who will see you with a pleasent surprise and some who will take you for a speedster.
