  • Brief review of cramster knee guard

Its quiet recent that I purchased my Cramster Bionic Knee Guard. I'll just present here a brief review on it.

My daily ride is two hours (both ways) covering a distance of approx. 66kms. I have worn the guard both inside and outside my trouser. The guard has a hard outer body and a softer inner paddings. I had to remove a portion of the borders that lines the inner pads as they were scraping against my knees when worn inside my trousers. Once this small modification was done, there is no more problem. I find it more comfortable to wear them outside my trousers because in Mumbai heat, my legs start sweating and the guard materials are not sweat absorbant and become somewhat unpleasant.

I still have yet to do some modification as I cannot fathom why cramster decided to make one of the straps fixed, meaning one of the strap cannot be unfasten. You can only tighten/loosen. The other two straps can be unfasten via velcro. This make it inconvenient to put or remove them. I have to remove my shoes and slide the guard all the way from my toes to my knees and the same while removing. Of course one can do that without removing shoes, but this will stretch the elastics considerably. So most time I simply wear them and remove them from inside office/home. This makes me kind of stupid when people stare at me walking like "robot-cop" . I've still yet to get used to the stares.

So my next modification will be to make that strap unfasten so that I can simply remove them as soon as I get down from the bike.

There were reports of guard scraping the tank when worn outside the trousers. I hand no such issues as already mentioned couple of posts back and has already suggested why they may not be scraping my tank in my case. Though I intend to cut piece of tyre tube to exact size of the aluminium pivots, and paste them on it with glue as a precautionary measure. This will prevent any chance of the aluminium pivot rubbing against my tank.

Interestingly, the knee guard can be worn as elbow guard as well .

However, for someone who doesn't have his family/ friend staying abroad, it becomes a little difficult to buy anything online (from shops abroad), and get the shipped to India. It's still a wee bit confusing regarding the custom duties that would be levied once I have the stuff (riding gears, helmets, etc.) delivered at my door-step.

I have been VERY much interested in procuring this particular model of the KBC helemt for long now. It's just that I don't have anyone staying abroad who can help me out with such a sweet deal.

@Gpfreak, Aryan : I agree with you. It isn't worth the hassle shipping products to India, instead, act wisely to save up in local shipping in the U.S and bring them down through some or the other contact(haven't got contacts abroad, heck, catch hold of some an xbhpian flying there, he would be more than glad to get it down for you !)

Don't want customs hassles ? Check out 20North.com. They deliver to your doorstep and have all stuff sold on Amazon.com.

Aryan, I know the model of KBC that you're behind. It's even cheaper than some of locally manufacutered helmets and its DOT approved too !

          • @Aryan: I saw a KBC helmet at ProBiker Pune for just Rs.5K. Please check with them/Inder which model it is.

Is it? I'll contact them. However, if Inder knows the model, then can he please let me know. Also, I wonder why doesn't Vicky of Performance Racing Store reply to the e-mail queries they receive. Perhaps, I'll just give them a call regarding my queries.

@Inder: A little help would be much appreciated.

I am looking for either of the following two models. These are very expensive, but I think I can just about afford either one of these.

              IMATRA Yellow

              MUGELLO
              :)

Recieved my Cortech Sports Tail bag and Icon Urban Tank bag today from Ridersdiscount.com.
Had placed the order on 28th January and am impressed with the speed of delivery considering they charge only $25 flat for any international shipping.
However will reccomend that the invoice value is kept below $200, else it will come under the customs scanner and the benefit of the low shipping may be lost paying duties.
Both the bags are of very high quality. Expensive but look solid.
The only thing missing on this website is lack of online tracking facilities. You cannot track the consignment online.
Will certainly buy more from them.

Do let me know if you are ordering from them again, and would not mind including a pair of gloves in your shipment. We can split the shipping costs.

Sure Tanay, that will be after some time though. Have decided not to buy anymore stuff atleast until the Ninja gets delivered. I have my eyes set on the Cortech Sports Saddle bag, Alpinestar pants and an Icon Helmet. Hopefully the incentives will keep flowing in through the year for me to fund these.
