Guys, why go for substandard gear? I Understand Getting it shipped from the US/Cost factors are a major problem but if its shipping you can try iccworld.com

they are based in Mumbai and ship from US to India, more like a 3rd party shipping agent.

        but,..

        1) Ride with out any gear
        2) Ride with 2nd grade gear

        which one will you choose?

Good questions Sunnyside Up. I bought & use Cramsters kneeguards cause I felt that the other gear that was mentioned here was cheaper imitation stuff (not in a derogatory sense). Hence I spent a few extra Gandhis for what I believe is more effective riding gear (could be wrong).

@ Saerius - I dont believe the Cramster kneeguards are second rate.

i was having the fox raptors', in mind.

But then how do you come to know whether you are buying genuine goods.

For all we know we could be sold something that is a really good imitation.

There arnt many shops selling them here, and of the few which does i dunno how honest they are.

So since i am practically naked. (not having knee/elbow protectors) I shall buy something which will not set me back by much. And then move on to better gear when i have got a hang of the quality/issues, and when its financially feasible for me.

How many Gandhis did you have to part ways with, for your gear?
What are they? What make are they? What your opinion?

you are right when you say the above statements.
people say there there are two types of fox raptor doing in the market.
which looks exactly similiar in fit and finish and quality and looks so how to identify????

              • i dont know why people are obsessed with fox and Ktm knee guards, when there are a lot of option in the market.

knee guards from scoyco are cheap in the 1000 range and of better quality than the so called fox and Ktm available in the indian market .have a look

                Guards

                SCOYCO--motorcycle clothing--motorbike protecting

cramster also sells knee guard for 1500.

                other options are,
                Knee & Elbow Protectors

Alpinestars Defender Knee Protectors - Rs2,999.00

i bought the Reflex knee guard from alpinestar for 1900 and its great value for money.

+ 1 , Neil. I did a recce of what was available in Chennai and Bangalore and settled for the Cramsters too. I did think that the Alpinestars would be better but since I wanted to try them on before buying them - I picked up the Cramsters as a stop-gap till I next visited Pune....

Personally I don't think that anyone should put off the purchase of any gear - to me, the costs of taking a dive without gear far outweigh the costs of even stop-gap/temporary gear. I have often heard and read about guys who said that they were saving up for some fancy stuff and in the meanwhile choose to ride unprotected - all I can say is that I think their priorities are off.

So in answer to the other question, if I had to choose between no gear and gear of suspect quality, I would tend to buy the best from whatever was available since my thought process would be that something was better than nothing. (Of course there is the possibility that poor gear could actually add to the damage in some cases... )

.......Which brings me to the other reason that I decided to spring for the Cramsters initially - they have been tried, tested and trusted by hundreds of Bulleteers for years without much fuss - so even though they don't have the glitz of the Fox/Axo/Scoyco brigade, I thought that they have at least proven to be generally reliable and would serve till I got myself something better.

Buts that's just my two cents, so.......

                    - How is it possible to get branded protectors from reputed brands like Axo and Fox for such peanuts when the least retail prices in other parts of the world are at least double?

I mean, some one posted awhile back that they bought Raptors for Rs.750 and Rs.600 !! Thats like under USD$ 16 ! Even in close out sales that I have looked at the prices were at least double.

Is it really plausible that our local retailers are importing + paying shipping and duties + making a profit and still selling quality genuine motorcycle grade products for Rs.600??

                    WOW !!

Please understand that my comments above are in no way directed at anybody in particular - it is merely a genuine doubt, specially when I recently bought a pair of ankle and shin guards for my kid's football matches @ 500 bucks - made in Punjab!!
What you have seen in market at low prices are sub-standard copies and not the original products so the prices are lower

Copies are mostly made with sub-standard material as the guy manufacturing/selling fakes do not have to maintain brand reputation. you may rate them at 50% but while established brands mainly use TPU increasing costs of products, we have seen that plastics used in these knockoffs is brittle and may cause more injuries than provide safety in event of an mishap.

Awsome, i was looking around for people with greater indepth knowledge of the manufacturing processes of our gears and quality control.

One thing which is nagging me in my head is, How do we find out if a Gear is genuine? how do we tell it apart from the copies?

For all i know i might be sold a good imitation, while i am thinking that its the real deal.

Could you please help us with this customer dilemma.

                        • Guys, I will strongly recommend iccworld.com rather than buying substandard jackets. My Hein Gericke timbuktu jacket's CE protectors were broken, and none of the Indian seller had it in stock, or even plans to sell it seperately. The CE protectors shipped to India were costing some 2000rs. I ordered a new Teknic Supervent (discontinued) with armour in my size from ICCWORLD, and guess the price? Rs.2600 I have even ordered a Firstgear torrent mesh jacket for my wife for Rs.3500. The seller lists the stuff on ebay.in, so you can use the coupons of 15% off - 20% off, and you are protected with ebay security. There is no way that our local jackets will cost this less, matching the quality is an even bigger assumption. If at all the size doesn't match, you always have an option to sell it at buying price.

The above seller adds some 1200rs to total shipped costs in US, so hunt yourself a mesh jacket about $35-45 in your size, and in less than a month, you have a brand new high quality jacket in your hand for Rs.3500!

Like I mentioned I use Cramsters kneeguards which are for Rs 1500. But I put them on only for out of city trips. Since I always ride around with my DSG Nero I dont use separate elbow protectors. Use the Cramster MX3 & TRG2 for all my riding.

Like Sunnyside said, the Cramster stuff isnt a cheap imitation. Which is why I plonked my money on it as compared to the slightly suspect options.

                            • Heys guys!! I need some help. I had purchased Probiker Gloves from Chopras for Rs 600 and i am disappointed with the quality of it because soon it will fully torn. So my budget is 1500 Rs. Can I get good quality gloves which cover my hands fully in Delhi and doesn't get torn in a couple of months?

                              • Go for scoyco buddy, i would have reccomended cramster but the quality is too low. DSG gloves are nice too, but the price range is high for your budget. I decided against probiker because the build is not very catchy. I also saw some other glove online which is very cheap, but im not sure about the quality of these.
