  • @sheelpriye: I have a touring jacket as well, the Hein Gericke Timbuktu. But even that, I use in mesh version only. Only when its cold or raining, do I put up the thermal liner. Else mesh does just fine. While touring Rajasthan, whole day I would tour without the liner, and at 5-6 pm, I would put on the liner to keep up with the cold. So not exactly that mesh jackets are completely useless in touring.

This particular Supervent jacket is mainly for city riding and racing (which I don't do ), but I can't see why it can't tour, besides the obvious fact that it will get very dirty, especially the white shoulder part!

EDIT: Also, going by the liners in jackets line First gear torrent mesh, which is a touring jacket, those liners are nothing but a filmsy plastic jacket. You can buy such jacket for less than 200rs roadside, and can pop it in or out of the mesh jacket should you need to block out the cold.

    • I bought this--
      JoeRocket.com
      instead of this--
      JoeRocket.com

and I think I made a wise choice. This was somewhere discussed few years ago(remember Dr.Arnob(SS&BBfame)) advocating the same & I too felt the same after I had a mesh for few months(it was a Thai made though).

      • To each his own, I guess, sheelpriye! I wouldn't get any non mesh jacket especially in Mumbai-Pune, where temperatures are usually hiigh. But in cold places, the textile ones would hold good.

In any case, my argument was not about mesh or textiles, it was about possibility of getting international jackets at good price as compared to local ones.

          • Yep, will do so tomorrow. Pune rains are not allowing the use of mesh jacket!

Thanks buddy. Very useful for me. By the way, one of the pics shows two kinds of pads. I presume they are both the knee armour? So does it have foam padding+hard armour? If so, I'm impressed!!

If you need a reason to ride, you are not on the right bike.

Its the knee armor, one showing the inside... the pic looks like they are two types, but they are the same... and its not foam padding, its just a layer of soft material in the inner side... just like the A* knee guards....

Bro, this can be easily fixed. Get some bag material and stick it over that part. As the extent of damage is very less, it should still be good to go. I guess you have not yet heard back from kochumvk.... hmm

I have been using the DSG moto mesh and trust me its awesome for city rides and mild touring. I once slipped on because of gravels and landed on my pal,s but thanx to these gloves my hand did not receive any bruises. its very good i must say......

yes good for touring and if you need some grip on road while offroading or riding on pavement. the only thing is you can move your ankle to certain extent. won't be comfortable for walking long distance.

Are you referring to combat type boots? If they're lace-ups you need to be careful with how you tie them on, making sure that the loose ends of the laces are properly tucked away so that they do not catch onto the pegs or other parts of the bike.

I actually tipped over a friends bike years ago when I got off his Yezdi without realizing my laces had snagged on the foot-peg. All was well till I tried to get off the bike - both me and bike in the dust! Been very cautious ever since. The same also applies to cargo pants with tie-up ankles.

Dont worry, its a small tear. what you need to do is to take it to a good bag repairing shop (who has also worked with jeans and other stuffs) or an alteration shop. ask them to cover the hole and reinforce that area with a piece of bag material from inside and then sew on a cloth sticker on top of the torn area outside, noone would be able to tell if its repaired BTW if you are in haripad i feel there is no one who can do this kind of repair, however there are a few bag repairing shops on NH47 in Kayamkulam you can try there. But for all this you have to release a few stitches from the front zipper side to clear the mesh out of the damaged area and to gain proper access to the area.once done you can stitch it back, yours being black there will hardly be any difference.

here's the pic of my jacket that i repaired

pls note the part to be released show in the pic is only symbolic. for gaining access to the shoulder area you have to release stitching from collar to about 5-6 inches downwards .
