By 'off-roading', I'm assuming you mean MX. If that be the case, then yes, MX pants are normally a lot shorter than street pants since the MX boots are cut quite high in most cases till the knee. Also most MX pants are quite baggy in the thighs too since they're cut to accomodate external armor that can be worn over or under the pants. They normally will have only one small pocket if at all.

Also, in MX tradition, they're normally quite garish and colorful. As far as I'm aware, they're also normally made of lighter materials since 'road-rash' is not such a major concern as impact protection.

Street pants and jeans on the other hand are almost a regular fit, since they are designed for everyday use. Also most of their armor is built in. When they're denim they'll normally have reinforcement in the form of Cordura or in premium brands, Kevlar lining at the knees and seat of the jeans, to bolster the abrasion resistance.

If by 'off-roading' you meant touring pants , then you'll find that they're normally quite heavy duty, cut like street wear though a little more relaxed fit for long days in the saddle, have built in armors and are normally equipped with lots of extra pockets.

For your Ninja, I'd recommend street or touring wear, since 'road-rash' is a definite concern in a fall.

If you're considering track - go with leather.

What I have observed is that the duties more or less turn out to be similar to the shipping you are paying or probably lesser. For instance, for 2 products (including a jacket), I've paid around 60 - 80% of the shipping costs at the post office. But there is a website ( guess Aditya posted it in this very thread) which gives some calculations. You may want to check that to confirm.

However, the best way anytime would be to ship it to somebody you know in that country and request him to bring along. With that you can strike great bargains with close outs. There is another online store - ridersdiscount which charges a flat $25 for shipping and no duties because they are sent as gifts . But they don't have all the brands and are slightly on the expensive side (which you can compensate by not paying duties). Do the research in your own sweet time and take the plunge. Also, try sizes in local stores before ordering. Call the store before you order and re-confirm on the size.
Opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one. And most of them are full of shit.

                        Call them!

I ordered twice from them and both of the times the items were delivered to my home without the duties hassles.

                        Others can pitch in...

Most off roading pants i saw on ridersdiscount are full in length , and the material they use is quite rugged(from the images).

                          Will check it in detail.

And Sachin paid nothing for his Ferrari. He vehemently refused to pay citing that it was a gift from the Italian Govt. Our neta's waived off the duty for him and paid it on his behalf from the taxpayers money.

tendulkar was the brand ambassador for fiat then. and they arranged a meeting between schumi and sachin where he was gifted the car.however Indian government refused to waive off the duty coz it was not won on the cricketing field or in a sports event ,so tendulkar was asked to pay the duty. initially on tendulkar's request the duty was waived but it created a furore and ultimately fiat stepped in and paid the duty for tendulkar as a good will gesture.

the duty structure in India is quite complicated.however whenever i have to buy apparels or biking gears i calculate duty+tax as around 32% of the total amount ie (cost of the product + shipping amount)which gives me an approximate upper level estimate of what i have to pay towards duty, tax and education cess. usually it varies from 18% to 32% depending on the mood of the custom officers....
