Thanks Payeng,,,a response from you is worth respecting..I have been following your blog since 2005 and enjoy reading it.

But for purely city riding, nothing beats the comfort of a mesh jacket. Take a pick according to requirement.

        That's a great info.,,
I'm also planning to buy Riding Jacket for my long tours..
        My budget is 3-4k..
        Any suggestions?

The same thing was told by the dealer when i was inquiring him about the DSG Nero and he suggested me to go with Maze since my majority of rides will be in city...

            I disagree .

I've been riding for more than 20 years and I know that dehydration will occur whatever kind of jacket you use - it is imperative that you keep yourself hydrated properly by drinking(sipping) water regularly. That's why many seasoned long distance riders carry hydration packs like Camelbaks.

If you sweat easily (like I do) wearing a closed textile jacket on a hot, humid day will result in you sweating like a pig inside your jacket and just soaking your shirt. The sweat not drying off in the breeze does not mean you sweat less - it just means you soak in your own sweat longer. Long distance riders can tell you the side effects of wet/ sweat soaked clothing. Plus sweat not evaporating defeats the bodily function of cooling.

I am a firm believer that different riding conditions require different types of gear, so I own both textile and mesh riding jackets. I use the textile in cooler climates while I use the mesh in hot weather. On a recent ride to Goa from Chennai to attend the RE meet there, (round trip about 2200kms) , I carried both - using the full Cordura textile in the cold early mornings and in rainy weather, switching to mesh when I hit the hot open highways. On a daily ride of about 600km, I easily consumed 3-4 litres of water from my Camelbak apart from whatever I had at food stops. My regular riding buddy is 58 years old who also knows from experience the importance of keeping hydrated and we were able to ride farther and longer than many much younger and fitter riders who kept stopping for more frequent breaks simply because they were tiring themselves out and getting dehydrated.

Incidentally even most textile jackets will have ventilation slits which can be opened for the passage of air through the jacket in order to vent hot air and evaporate sweat, though they cannot compete with a mesh for ventilation.

While I agree that mesh will dry you out faster, this can be compensated quite easily by proper re-hydration.

            • Totally agree with Sunny here. My observation has been in line with his. Suggested the same to a couple of guys and they are reaping the benefits. The overall body temperature and comfort feels much more in control/manageable in a mesh jacket and with regular re-hydration. A sweaty shirt simply adds to the fatigue level by creating discomfort. However individual preferences matter, just that over the years have found this to be working perfectly for me and some of my friends.
You can take the ride away from me but you cannot take the rider out of my soul.........

Hi magesh, I am no expert but doing resarch for selecting the jacket for me so I advise you to try the DSG's maze and Nero, Cramster's twister and RJAY's Swift. you can get the information form last two three pages and the related site, but surely you will have to increase your budget upto atleast 5000 as I didn't find any Jacket below 4000 rs

Scoyco is better / sturdier and well built than Pro-Biker anyday. Pro-Biker costs only about 450 bucks. You pay more - you get more

My opinion on Falcon is that it is like a normal jacket with some degree of protection thrown in. Better to save a lil more and plonk for the Maze or Nero. Also, if anyone is coming from the US, there would be New Year Closeouts and you can buy a Cortech / Fieldsheer / Speed & Strength / Tourmaster / Shift Racing at approximately the same price of the Nero

I've not used Riding Gear(Jacket) earlier..using only ADDIDAS wind cheater so far..
Is it really worth for the penny we're investing..
Will it give protection from rains too ?

Don't know the usage advantage as it can be said by rider's experience and I haven't used it either.

Regarding rain protection, the mesh and the jackets having leather are not for rains. But there are water resistant jackets fir sure.. DSG Nero is one of them which I know

Well, it depends on how much we value ourselves. If you are OK falling off from a motorcycle at say 50kmph and scrape your elbows, take a beating on the shoulders and possibly have some slipped discs or cervical spinal damage, then Riding gear is something you can THINK off

For me (or most of us in the forum), I would rather save and invest in proper riding gear than lie in some hospital bed.

Riding gear is very very important. Period

And yes, you can get Waterproof jackets also

                            Thanks dude.,
Nero has got removable Water resistant and warm linings..
I guess it'll be the perfecct pick for riding in all weather conditions..
Can anybody using NERO confirm this? .,

SP-X are overpriced I feel. If there is anyone coming from the US, buy sometime during the new year liquidation sales. Good prices for brands like Cortech etc
