My PC 2.8 Dual core, Intel Motherboard and 2GB RAM (Win XP Pro) is running very slow. I mean that the response time is very slow. Today, it crossed it's limits. The PC took 1 Hour to extract a 4GB RAR file, and end has not yet come, it also took 1.5Hrs to install NFS prostreet on my PC. Please Help Guys

I have Licensed Quick Heal antivirus 2010, scanned the PC for viruses but no found.

Is the problem due to HDD. Before when I was on 80GB HDD SATA all things were normal. When I switched to 500 GB seagate this all started. Once the HDD went kaput, I got the replacement under warranty and now after installation, the things were fine when there were 3-4 softwares installed in OS. But, as soon as I installed some 10-11 programs the PC showed it's character and started having delays. It requires 5 mins of Idling after starting the XP to load all programs, during the course the HDD like keeps on blinking for 5 mins and after that all becomes normal. And the problem reappears whenever a big file is installed or copied from one partition to another.
Easy solution for ur PC speedup

    1. First scan with AVG [install if needed..its free] and remove all spyware and viruses if there any

    2. Install CCleaner [freeware] and scan and clean, go to registry option in the tool and scan and cleanup [don;t worry no side effects]

    3. use the CCleaner tool to disable the prog during startup [check the option] .. it will really make PC superfaster during bootup also

Now for 4GB rar file extract .. it should take around 30 min max with 4GB ram [in my case] depending on ur RAM usage by other prog during that time ... the duration will vary,.. if it takes more time,...reboot ur PC and restart the extraction

    Defragment ur disk before use

One more thing dont go to ITdepot they are costly compared to other dealers for some reason---The last time i went to ITDEPOT they were asking Rs 400 extra for a 500GB WD HDD while delta peripheral's was selling the same HDD for much less .The only thing i purchased from ITdsepot was this expensive mouse pad (delta did not have any mouse pads in stock then).
You need to cross-check the pricing across the net as well as the stores.

When i was building my PC i ordered the PSU from Ebay. And the mobo, graphics card, RAM were all ordered from IT Depot. Some items are quite cheap and some are priced quite higher as compared to the rest of the sources. So you just need to compare and order stuff. And they do pack the products quite neatly while shipping.

Quick heal detection rate is poor ---Ditch that thing and get Nod32---If you google around you will find a way to use the paid version for free.Is the HDD 11 series one (the one with the ****ed up firmware?) if it is better run a HDD monitoring software like HDD sentinel it could be a life saver .

you can do a couple of things to increase the performance over here,
right click my computer -> properties -> advanced -> click Settings under Performance -> adjust for best performance (you'll loose on looks but gain on performance)
you should also try deleting the files in Temp folder, just type %tmp% in run and press enter, delete all files you find over here.
you can even defrag the disk but i suppose its a new installation so this wont help much.
one more thing what was the speed of your 80gb hdd and what is the speed of your current hdd??

If you are running a relatively fresh XP install, then the programs should not be causing the slowdown. Check for spyware using the task manager or download Process Explorer. Also see the CPU and RAM usage and which process, if any, is utilizing it. Also run msconfig and check what all programs are scheduled to run at start-up. Anything extra, like Winamp Agent or Adobe apps etc can be disabled.

My guess is that there is some sort of spyware or malware taking up resources.

Opt from these PSUs which come under 3k

    Theitdepot - Cooler Master 460W SMPS (RS460-PCARA3-EU)

    Theitdepot - Cooler Master 500W SMPS (RS500-PCARA3-EU)

Please increase your budget and fit in a 600W PSU if you intend to go for a performance card like 4850.

Go with 22incher which are quite cheap nowadays

    Benq e2200hd for 7.7k

and for gpu get hd5770 as tanay suggested.

    @tanay

Native resolution of 22 incher is 1680X1050 if he goes with non-hd 22incher.

But even on a full hd 22 incher, playing games on 1680X1050 have no difference due to smaller screen size.I am telling this from my personal exp.Moniters are not changed regularly so he should go with bigger size rather than getting 19 or 17inch.
    alternatively... get a 17" .. within a year u d be having a hd 32 " lcd tv for abt 20k.
use the 17 incher in ur car then.
