    Core Issues

A quickie, all these multi-core processors the clock speed quoted, are they cumulative of the speeds of all the cores combined or does each one work at a figure say 2.66Ghz? Because I heard my friend saying it's the latter and it really didn't make sense, also these "cores" are they processors by themselves?

^ The DDR5 ram is only for the GPU. System ram is currently at DDR3 only.

Since the DDR5 is on the gpu, any current processor will support it as the type of ram on the gpu does not matter.

A comparable setup for AMD is:

    Proc: AMD Phenom II X4 965 or Phenom II X6 1055T (hex-core)
Board: Any 790GX/890GX chipset based board

Remaining components stay the same. The potential difference between this and the Intel setup can be 1-2K.

You can add another SMPS. But it will be hanging outside your cabinet and there will be wires all over the place making it a real messy affair. Far better to get a single psu.

    A 5850 is much more powerful than a 4850.

I have finalized i5 processor and ordered it. I have one more query, as you have mentioned the graphics card are now coming with DDR5. Are there any DDR5 RAM available? If yes then do i5 support them?
Also, Please enlist some AMD processors, Although I have ordered i5 still I would like to know what a real AMD is? why they are becoming much popular over Intel.

quite different actually. go through these:

4850: ATI Radeon? HD 4850 Graphics Overview

5850: ATI Radeon? HD 5850 graphics

check the specifications. then you would possibly understand...

I have ran a 64-bit PC too, could'nt find any difference between speeds of 32 and 64 that's why I asked what is the basic difference? My budget is 50K only.
well, to get 64bit processing speed, the processor should be of 64bit. and the application written should also support 64bit. this has still not caught up much in the market in terms of end user. so 32bit is all good for homePC users.

    Check this config:
    Core i5 750 2.66GHz @ ~9500
    MSI P55-GD65 @ ~8200
    Kingston 2x2 DDR3 @ ~5100
    Sapphire HD5850 1GB GDDR5 @ ~16000
    Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB @ ~2000
    Coolermaster 550w @ ~4200
    Benq @ ~7500
    Cabinet @ ~3000
    DVD drive @ 1000
    Speaker+kb+mouse: ~2200

    total: 58700

you need atleast an i5 to match up or beat an AMD. the remaining falls wrt the processor.
you will get graphics card < 10k also. if you choose those then it falls in budget.

PSU: as Chicane said, 550watts should be enough. go for corsair vx550 or coolermaster. if you want a bit of future proofing, go for corsair tx650 or CM 650w (bit cheaper and equally good).

what if I buy a 600W smps atx... i already have a 400W smps which i have shown it above...can i add another smps and increase the watt....?

    is 4850 and 5850 same?

oops... missed reading this. now, you talked about xbox360. so i suggested atleast hd5850 1gb ddr5 to be in the league...
for your current config + 4850, 450w PSU should be enough is what i feel. if you dont plan to OC or likewise.

i had plans of getting a Xbox 360...now i have decided to get a good graphic card bcoz of tight financials!
    my system config is this....
    AMD athlon 64 X2 5200+
    Asus M2N68AM mobo
    1gb ddr 2 ram 800 mhz...planning to buy 2gb ram...so total 3gb
frontech twinkle cabinet (that would give u guys a fair idea about smps!)
samsung 17"crt monitor...no plans of buying a tft.
currently using Xp service pack 3 32 bit
I want to play games like crysis, assassin creed, gears of war, COD MW2, Farcry 2, just cause2,
I have decided to go for 9800gt or ati 4770...
will I be able to play the above mentioned games? should i buy any xtra smps to power the graphic card.?
GPU: hd 5870 (@~23k) is far better than 9800gt in performance. and since your motherboard is am2 and has only 1 PCIe 16x slot, you cant use crossfire. so i suggest 5870 or atleast 5850 for the games you have specified to play. but using vga out from such a gpu is... ahem! you will get a good 22" full hd benq for 7.5k. give it a thought...

RAM: every game nowadays specify 1gb in 'minimum' requirements. so i suggest you pump up the memory to atleast 4gb. more so because its ddr2. anyways, it helps speed up your total system.

PSU: as Chicane said, 550watts should be enough. go for corsair vx550 or coolermaster. if you want a bit of future proofing, go for corsair tx650 or CM 650w (bit cheaper and equally good).

cabinet: the 5850 is about 9.5" long and 5870 would be 10.5". so check if it fits in good with your current setup. and if you dont use a better cabinet, you might as well be posting heating problems in sometime. so get it changed. if you can afford CM 690, then thats a good buy. nzxt gamma is also good but short in supply. i think your current mobo will fit in. check...
