^ When its delivered in stock - its tuned for optimal air:fuel settings .

If you put a filter, you are sucking in a little more air than the usual - so the tuning just drifts away...

^^ What about putting the filter inside the air-box?? I know this also won't make much of a difference compared to stock but atleast will it be able to run with the stock jetting?

Nope, The bike will still be running lean. Maybe not as lean as directly being mounted on the carb. Because the filter element itself is of higher efficiency & surface area. Hence more air will be pulled in when compared to stock filter. Putting it in the Air Box might just limit the flow (and intake growl) a little bit, but still it will be more with respect to the stock filter.

Stock Filter in Airbox + Stock Jet = Right Mix
K&N Filter in Airbox + Stock Jet = Slightly leaner mix
K&N Filter on Carb + Stock Jet = Even more leaner mix

Yeah atleast then i don't have to have the trouble during the cold-starts, and the the bike stalling while ripping, and with the filter inside the air-box probably, the carb can handle the slightly lean mixture, which with proper tuning would be able to run without hassles

What if we do upgrade to K&N and tape of a part of the filter so that the volume of air still remains the same. (Or find and install a filter smaller than the RC1060). It might defeat the purpouse of installing K&N, but I guess a few benefits on filter lifetime & qualitative efficiency can be seen.

In other words, we are preventing the bike from running lean by obstructing the airflow a little bit.

But how do you know that? How can we measure the air being taken into the block, and how do you know that just by taping a part of the filter you'll be able to bring down the intake of air, also the filter is able to take in so much air not only because of the volume but also because of the density of the filter, so by taping a part of the filter will only force more air through the portions which is not taped

                      @ELD
It is still an experimental idea that came up because the air flow seems to be restricted by putting the filter within the air box (as opposed to directly on the carb)

Taping it up was just another experimental Idea. I'm not sure of my fluid mech to predict how air-flow will be affected.

Reverted back to stock filter box after nearly a 15xxkms on the odo with the K&N, and to be honest the bike is actually pretty smooth and the power on the tap is very progressive, and starts from 2500rpm itself. The engine is a lot quiter and "refined" in a sense

and ELD saved me from a 2XXX Rs expense, also Sandeep kept reiterating many times. i think we need equipments to measure values of the carb and effects of various jet size. trial and error method may only lead to more expense of money and time.

wont the CO reading give an idea abt ur fuel air mixture? did any1 take the CO reading after putting K&N or rejetting?

I have fitted KRP Exhaust charger on my Pulsar 180 DTS-i V1..Plannig to install K&N filter but now a bit confused regarding that....I need your advise..

1)Should i go for K&N and then Re-jet the Carb...
                              OR
2)Should i just Re-jet my Carb..As i have already installed KRP exhaust charger...

Is it really worth to go for K&N...I already have installed..
                              1.Both NGK iridium plugs (500+500=1000).
                              2.Low resistance silicon cable (650).
                              3.KRP exhaust Charger (4850)..

                              Need advise.........

Install the K&N and re jet. As long as u can re jet properly, K&N is worth it.
