for 5 years,u better look into the new dazzler as well.. i have owned a unicorn, and trust me,used it like hell and rippin for abt 95% of driving but took care of it as well.. i sold the bike @ 60k kms and the clutch plates were still not worn.. @ 45k just opened the head, decarbonised it,replaced the piston rings, valves and i'm done.. still was goin like breeze @ 60k kms.. it was 5 years old and we opened every thing and nothing was worn out including the cylinder and all the internals were fine.. so maybe an apache may not last for 5 years, might require some work, but if maintained, will be like new even after 5 years... as for the fz-16,i dont know abt the quality but i feel it's too much of a poser bike but again since it's ur first bike, the dull performance (compared to the rtr 180) will be managable every day and also will please ur gal..so it's up to u.. power and performance (FUN) - rtr 180,
    pose,managable,brand value - FZ -16

but for u,i'll suggest the dazzler if u like the looks.. unicorn's too old now and since u want it to be a looker, the gs 150r (very pleasent looking) may not be to ur likin.. but if it's looks r fine, try the 150r as well...

Im not getting into the RTR vs FZ thing but what i can do is tell you my experience with my 7k old FZ
I have tuned it to a richer mix and coupled with shifting at 5-6k RPM all the time i get a mileage of 35 at best.Performance wise it is really good, many say that FZ loses its breath after 75kmph but in my experience it loses breath only after 95-100.i have done a best of 127kmph after waiting a little after 118kmph.Instrument quality is really good, everything feels right and good,no squeakiness or cheap feel.i have only done 7k on ODO and no prob so far.. yeah gear shaft has a small prob and is being replaced for free.Riding posture is perfect for city and LONG tours for me(70kgs,5'6).Pillion comfort is really bad...its only meant for a nice and fit woman! .Vibrations are non existent...no im not exaggerating.the only slight vibration i have felt is at 6k> RPM in the 3rd gear.even at 127kmph vibration aren't there.
oh and the lack of rear disk is disappointing but then.....if you like the ride you can live with it.....i guess.

Test Ride both and tally your experiences with your requirements!

      Best of Luck!

And coming to CB Dazzler, I personally don't like its look. I admire Honda's engineering though.. My dad's Unicorn still revs like a charm.

And guys do you think I can maintain RTR 180 well?.. 'coz I'm totally new to biking, and don't know how to maintain a machine properly..
hi, i am using an apache from the past 4 yrs and my bike is still running like a charm. No engine wear or nothing. Just service your bike properly and it will go on forever. my bike still keeps up with an FZ. i think you should go for the RTR 180 and you wont be disappointed.

        ride safe

yeah kind of...you can tune the carburetor to a richer(better performance, poor mileage) and leaner(better mileage, poorer performance).
i have a richer mix and i have felt tht does make a pretty decent difference...like i said TD both.
            best of luck!

              Hmmm.. I drove both

Like I said in the OP I felt FZ loosing its breath after 65kmph while overtaking a bus which was also speeding... I couldn't believe it was the same bike.. the difference was too evident

Do u think tuning the carbureter or adding a K&N filter will help me till atleast 100??

:O couldn't over take at 65? i never ever had tht prob!!

anyway if you really have probs with FZ in your heart then just go for the RTR!

R15 is the best ride available in India presently , but as you said earlier you are a collage student and a newbie to the biking world ....itz gonna burn your pockets .Anyways R15 Rocks

                            Burn my pockets.. 'coz?

are you referring to FE?.. or maintenance of the bike itself..

Right now I don't have a choice... my dad says it should be yamaha or Honda..

                            So FZ or R15 ...

I should find someone to ride an R15... 'coz the dealer says there's no testdrive opt for it..

if it is decision between fz and r15 then better bet is r15
because you get similar fuel efficiency and you get more power and all other tech involved with it.
and another thing is you told new to biking
in r15 you have to lean to ride ie sporty ride ( for newbie it just take some time to adjust so as a college student u must )
                              fz will have relaxed ride

Go for R-15 without a doubt. If you are a perfomance enthusiast with a budget, RTR would be the bike to buy. Im using the menace for past 1 year. Done 14.5 k & my riding style is a bit rough. It still brings a smile on my face when i ride & no reliability issues so far.
